What's the etiquette regarding trying other folk basses Do we seek out the owner for permission or do we trust each other enough not to damage the kit and just go for it?

I've been to a few. It's my thought thought that as long as you're respectful and careful it's okay to try an instrument. Ask if the owners there and chat about a lot of nonsense too
this'll be my first one, I'll be using the 'always ask first' approach to anyone else's kit, it's only polite, even if the request is a general wave in the direction of the person in question followed by pointing at the bass and proceeding after an approving nod?
It is a beautiful sounding 15...I'm always impressed.
it records really well in a room too

yes I have an all valve orange rig (ad200b and obc115) that sounds awesome with my usa p bass (complete with flats) and is perfect for my originals band (I might like a second obc115 at some point but it'll just be so there's even more of the same magnificent sound) I also have a markbass LMIII and EAD FN212 which is perfect for any covers band outings and sounds wonderful with my pair of acg 5 strings both very different but both very wonderful, happy me
-
I am considering sneaking a second obc115 into my setup at some point I love the sound of one but 2 would be more, well, more!
-
Shetland hhmmm tricky indeed buddy, I managed to try both an ad200b and obc115 in a local shop and happily loved the sound so I then scoured here and ebay until I found used stuff at the right price... I've found my obc115 to be remarkably full range and punchy, it has enough top end to make a p bass growl but not in a tweetery sort of way, really natural sounding and pleasing
Cheers guys, that is good stuff to think about. I would love to try a few of these combos out but is is very difficult for me to get places to give it a go. The OBC410 seems like a sweet plan, but the Orange 115 might be worn considering. I don't really have a reason for it but i'm not a big ampeg fan. No thoughts on Aguilar with the orange head. I also think that an AD200B teetering on top of a Barefaced cab might look stupid….Maybe with a terror 500 but maybe not a big-assed tube head! haha!
Depending on where in the country you are there are probably folks not too far away who have one of the cabs you're thinking about so you may be able to try a few out to get an idea of how they sound for you?
-
maybe if it won't go in easily then it's not meant to go in there? um, that might sound a bit rude if taken out of context
-
why not do both? I'll be heading down from Sheffield to the Leicester one...
-
There's something magical about the sound of my ad200b, obc115 and my p bass with flats! Rich and full with old school thump, sits perfect in the mix!
-
There's a do in Leicester in may?
Thanks. That would be a long drive for me to bring two basses.
indeedy mate, mebbe drop roland rock a pm to see if you being a builder bringing toys to meet gives you a bit more levity? mebbe you could be in the foyer (if there is one) for example?
Is there a restriction on the amount of gear I can bring I seem to remember something about that but now can't find it.
post #81 was the start of the conversation around limiting gear etc http://basschat.co.uk/topic/228206-midlands-bass-bash-2014-100514/page__view__findpost__p__2363214
It is worth checking with your ISP to see if you get some free webspace. I know I do and I use it for a few things, keep meaning to put a website together for my wife's floristry and crafts. Depending on how complicated you want the site to be it doesn't have to be difficult to learn how to do it yourself. The easiest way to get started is to find a free template site. I used to do all mine in pure HTML but can't really get away with that anymore, unfortunately. There are tons of tutorial sites out there. The more patience you have the less it'll cost you.
oo might be a goer there, will check mate
-
Didn't cost us much at all, we bought the web address and our keyboard players mate designed it as he owed our keys a favour and our keys is maintaining it.
then I shall see if any of the guys know any webdesigner types cheers
Very funny! lol Ironically our website is down tonight, as we are having some upgrades to it! Should be back up tomorrow
how much is a website nowadays? ...and what's involved in getting one as I've no clue but we'll probably need one at some point...
-
We've got a Facebook page and will be getting a soundcloud acount when I get round to it, we've got a band email address too...no website yet cos they're a cost, everything we've got so far is free

the 835 is of roughly equivalent quality to an sm58 but with a much more even response (none of that mid hump you get from an sm58) whereas the 825 occupied a lower position in their range. The 845 is nicer still, the 855 is my favourite non condensor (no longer made though) and the 865 is proper nice!
