  1. ... endorsements are a great way for brands to get the name out as people want to copy their idols. So Markbass, if you want to endorse me I would be fine with that, even if yellow is a fugly colour.
  2. Doug Wimbish, a pioneer in using effects to sculpt his sound, a founding father of rap bass lines with Sugar Hill records, an artist who chose freedom of expression over money (so not choosing the Stones when he could have) and an all around rock beast with Living Colour.
  3. Aboslutely cracking instruments, probably the best 5-er I ever owned. GLWTS.
  4. Wow, bargain!
  5. It makes you want to send an email to the provided address. Art and musicianship is no longer valued at all.... great. A footballer makes several 100k a week, but a musician should beg. What an interesting world we live in.
  6. I think this is a 2004 or 2005 SSD period bass. As per the Spector Resource page. Edit: 2006-10 due to black hardware
  7. Or the toxic York air
  8. Just bizarre! I have just checked over my 3 basses with them on..... no rust. And the “freshest” are a good 3 months on the bass. QC issues or something in a certain batch perhaps?
  9. Drat, too late. 100% Peggy Lee
  10. Who knows, it isn’t normal in any case. I sweat like a little piggy under stage lights and never had any rust issues with the cobalts......
  11. Been using them pretty much exclusively on fretless for years, never any rust..... you have acidic sweat mate 😂
  12. Certainly is a gorgeously smooth neck, but actually it is also the pickup position, ergonomics of the body and sound I am totally rekindling a love affair with. Like an old girlfriend 😂
  13. I have been pretty much playing my Ray for days now, 1 gig, 1 rehearsal under my belt. I still cannot believe how uttely natural it feels in my hands. All those years of playing Stingrays exclusively clearly is still in my muscle memory. So much so I am contemplating offering my entire collection (bar my fretless Status and my self build ThunderBlackstone) as trade material against several others...... But hey, let's get past the renewed honeymoon stage first
  14. I used to do 5 45 minutes sets every 2 to 3 weeks. I am pretty energetic and playing the bass is a relatively low energy expenditure activity. Just my fingers and occasionally my feet got a bit tired. Gigging is like life, if you cannot get through your normal day to day without panting you probably are not fit enough. If you can walk up 3 flights of stairs without too many issues your are probably fine
  15. How can this be here still? GLWTS!
  16. Feck me, yes utterly pointless, cheap journalism ..... bit like reality tv.
  17. And can I just note it blends really well with my SB-2
  18. Got a Ray in, traded against a G&L L2500. I haven’t owned one in several years, but my first proper self-bought and only fretted bass between ‘93 and ‘08 was a Stingray 4 2 band from late 92/early 93. Then gone through 5/6 string basses, custom hi-end etc. Now have a ‘97 2 band Ray in the arsenal and I have to say, great, great basses that sound and play really well. Although I have several 4 and 5 string basses, it is nice to be (partly) back where it all began.
  19. There is something special about the tone of a 2 band Stingray, had forgotten just how good they play and sound. Just lovely.

Considering I'm a Fender nut and Leo never got a lot wrong, I have never got familiar with a Stingray. I really should, and the 2-band seems to be the one. I need to investigate. Just need to find someone who'll lend me one for a few weeks... as if :)

    2. Old Horse Murphy

      Old Horse Murphy

One of the only basses I regret moving on was a 1988 Stingray 2 band eq. It was a little bit heavy, but it played and sounded wonderful.

      Sigh...

  20. Beautiful.
  21. A rather Apples with Oranges discussion this I think. I am afraid Rocco is not going to get 50k as there is not 50k worth of interest in his solo work, crowd funding has been used to great effect by some, but I think that the type of music and fanbase Rocco operates in probably is more used to buying physical format than digital. Wrt 50k, if you use a good studio/produced/ get some know artists in etc. etc. that money will just about get you there including mastering, post production etc. Especially if we are talking US market. I get that amount. WIth technology you no longer needs to spend anywhere near that to get a good product, but perhaps that is not what mr Prestia is looking for.
  22. Traded basses (not places :)...) with Jon, absolute gem of a BC member. Thanks for the trade, the company and the coffee! Enjoy the new thumb anchor point 😂 .... you’ll suss it in no time.
