We have been string break free for ......days.
paulconnolly replied to Dom in Dorset's topic in General Discussion
Haven't broken a string for many a year. But here's an anecdote that I think on the subconscious level led to me being a bass player (may have posted it on BC before but I can't remember): My first ever proper concert was Rod Stewart at Belle Vue Stadium in Manchester in about 1975. Support act was Liverpool Express. IIRC their bass player/singer, Billy Kinsley, broke both an E and an A string during the opening number . -
What cover do you enjoy playing the most?

Curent fave is probably Aerosmith's Last Child. -
Appropriate song for Valentine's night gig
paulconnolly replied to paulconnolly's topic in General Discussion
Some interesting suggestions though not all in the vein of Classic 70s rock and some that probably arnet approrpiate fior my 20year old daughter to be singing with me playing bass beside her (not sure who'd be more embarrassed)
Buzzcocks - ever falllen in love
Ha one suggestion was I'm in Love Again
For those who are unlucky in love.... Diesel Doug and the Long Haul Truckers, If I'd Shot Her When I Met Her (I'd Be Out Of Jail By Now).
love it
I'd go for the joke anti-Valentine's with I Hate Everything About You by Ugly Kid Joe...
good suggestion. -
In a similar vein to the Christmas Song thread we've got a gig on 14th Feb. Bearing in we do the classic rock stuff the suggestion was thrown out today that we do a luuurrvv song for Valentine's night gig. Suggestions so far are: Bad Co. - Feel Like Making Love Motorhead/Girlschool - Please Don't Touch Anybody got any other suggestions?
£900 mate for a custom shop....are you having a laugh? It's more than double that and it's not near mint....it's MINT! Btw I'm not male so all your assumptions are totally incorrect. £7 might be worth it for as many adverts as you want to put but I'm only selling one item and its a guitar so doubtful it would strike up much interest amongst bass players and how likely are you to tell your 'bandmates' there's a guitar for sale thats going to cost them a packet. Yes, it was free last time I used this site to source a ltd edition bass so I was surprised that it cost £7. It would be far more profitable to charge £1 for every item that's advertised whether it be a set of strings, fx processor or expensive axe. I wouldnt use evilbay but rest assured it got advertised on reputable sites. It's a shame your guitar buddies didn't get to hear the full details about an amazing guitar that is a worthy investment.
Barracuda by heart. Timing is a git, specially when you have two guitarists who were fantastic but just couldn't get this right so it throws you.
Ha, ha, we're doing that too. It's the bar of 5/4 in the verses that was throwing off both the guitarist and the drummer (yes only one guitarist). I had to spend most of the last rehearsal yelling out a count so they could stay in time in the verses . -
I've only got Pungent Effulgent but I love it and keep meaning to get more let alone get to see them live.

For me MP was a driving force and something was lost when he went. I think he's a bit of a knob but DT music always seemed to be motivated by a theme typically created by Portnoy. I liked Curious Turn.. but the current album is a bit "meh" and I haven't bought it and not bought tickets for the gig next year.

The Dark Lord Grammatically correct but factually inaccurate? Not just me then . Seriously though, mighty glad it's "only a pacemaker". I do struggle with Motorhead these days but like all the icons I grew up listening to I hope he goes on for ever. -

Costco are advertising a Fender Starcaster for about £70 + VAT. no idea what they are like but as a beginner guitar with the Fender name it surely can't be beaten. -

I too was impressed by the bandaged pinkie. I've no idea how accurately he is replicating Neil Murray's lines but it sounds pretty good to me. -

This version seems pretty authentic. What does everyone else think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11PZTWL1Z0w -
From that vid, I see Mike Portnoy has lost some weight (only 2 toms and 1 bass drum ). About 1:45 in he's banging his head coz he hasn't enough drums to hit . I'm a big BS fan. Went to watch one of his clinics a (good) few years ago, great stuff.
Indeed, but that probably happens on the show already A producer may have or not have a liking for a particular band / act One positive thing is at least it's what a completely different producer thinks is worth supporting.... Gives the viewer access to bands they may otherwise not see.....
Taking Bill Nelson as an example; Here's one of the most prolific and influential British guitarists of the last 40 years and there is a school of thought amongst his diehard fanbase that he hasn't been invited on to Later because he gave an (allegedly) less than flattering review of a Jools Holland album a few years ago. Could be a conspiracy theory, could be true. I don't know but there does seem to be a weighting towards Jools' pals on the programme. -

How close do you need to get the runs? Stay in key and get a reasonable approximation IMV. I had a quick bash through this afternoon and whilst I couldn't replicate the runs note for note I could pretty much hit the main notes and play a fill in key. The guy in the you tube vid above would be worth following.
