1.
It certainly would. From what I understand about him and his bass, it would be practically unplayable.
And probably need hazmat precautions.
2. I use either a fretted 5-string with roundwounds or a fretless 5-string with flatwounds, depending on which I fancy playing. They're basses, they all sound the same.
3.
I feel like I'm going crazy . . . not being able to play anything musical in a meaningful way -- no bass, no guitar, no piano, nothing! You see, I broke the right wrist a couple of weeks ago while refereeing as soccer (football) match. It seems that my avenues to musical expresssion have been cut-off and I am NOT happy about it. Music has been a major part of my life since I was a child.
A while ago, I saw someone playing bass who I thought initially was just hammering on so he could adjust amp settings or something. Then I realised that his right arm was completely paralysed. He was still able to play the blues (well) with his left. Most impressive.
4.
Looking at the Eastwood version, I see that they have a more conventional Tune-o-matic style bridge rather than the Jaguar style that this Harley Benton sports. However Tune-o-matic bridges are fixed radius so I'm going to need one that matches the radius of the HB fingerboard. There's no specs given on either the Thomann site or for the Eastwood model, so how do I measure the fingerboard radius to ensure I get the correct replacement bridge?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Set-Of-9-Radius-Gauges-Guitar-Luthier-Tool-TO17-/130890216986 or, rather cheaper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radius-Gauges-Instrument-Guitar-Setup-Measuring-Fingerboard-Fretboard-Saddle-Nut-/301424231615
5.
speaking of temptation; it's getting harder and harder to resist flying to Germany and personally destroying that mini Thumb.
You should buy one.
6. There are a few songs I hate hearing among the songs that I play with the club band. I don't actually hate the action of playing them though, although "Dance the night away" is one that I have a constant fight to stay awake to (much like "Dakota" with the other band).
7. I use a small aluminium case for a Tecamp head, something like this one from Maplin: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/small-flight-case-with-foam-interior-n50fu
8. Flightcase Warehouse?
9.
Thank you all for the answers, that's really helpful. I would use it mainly for my always on effects, ie a bit compression, tube grit and chorus, plus distortion here and there. The smaller MS60b was another thing I considered for that purpose. How easy or difficult is it to change patches on this little pedal in a live situation ?
When I get the round tuits together, I'm going to assemble my Arduino-based patch switcher for MS60-B and B3 - just sends a MIDI program change message to the USB port. Another way of doing this is with an Android phone or tablet with OTG, an OTG to USB adaptor lead and a USB lead to suit, and MIDI Commander on the phone/tablet. Then just put the phone/tablet on your music stand and you're sorted
10. Alan's also experimented with chambering basses to lighten them. The only advice I can give on that front is to go through the ACG gallery and look at the finishes there. I personally like the acrylic impregnated finish such as but my taste is very likely wildly different from yours.
11. Put the cab on top of the amp. I use a piece of rubber mat that is sold as a non-slip mat for drummers to stick under pedals and hi-hats. Works well.
12.
This thread is valid. Everything goes in cycles on here. New members join the forum daily. You can't expect them to trawl through about eight years' worth of old threads to find an answer to their questions, can you?
You don't need to, it gets done about once a fortnight.
13.
I'd like the marketplace sub-forums divided up into manufacturer, type, colour, board type, scratchplate, number of strings, geographical location down to ward level and price bands in £10 increments. Example: Forum: Fender / Jazz / Natural / RW / Blk / 4st / England / South Midlands / Oxfordshire / North Oxfordshire / Banbury / BA15 / Shenington with Alkerton / £500-£510 The benefit of this approach is that it would make things much easier for me and more difficult for everyone else. That's right. I said it.
Without specifying active/passive, modified/unmodified, headed/headless, fretted/fretless, and headstock decal genuine/fake/NA (headless)/NA (pretty inlay)/NA (big lump of metal), this is useless, I tell you, useless.
14. I'm in a covers band playing small to medium sized venues and I use a B3 or an MS60-B to get my original tone. If I was playing originals, I'd be just as happy using it to get my original tone.
15.
That's a Zephyr isn't it?
I think it is but I bought it off That Ebay as a C5. I said it was a Zephyr when I sold it. Slightly deeper neck than a Grind (which is why I sold it) but lovely build quality.
16.
Peavey C5 does all that, they go for less than £200 and are really well-made: Weighs a ton, mind. Jon.
What were you doing in my back garden?
17. Peavey Grind, if the string spacing isn't too narrow for you.
18. 4x10 or 4x12, wobbly offset driver layout so it's close to vertically aligned but a bit shorter and wider, top driver angled upwards.
19. The DV247 description says it's a slim;line solid mahogany body, rather than the sapele hollow body of the other one.
20. I've got a 2000 Thumb which I had defretted by a luthier. I use roundwounds on it. No problems.
21. Anything that plays like butter. My dietary requirements dictate that it must play like Flora Lite. The word "Fender", unless it relates to a mudguard on an American bass. Too many knobs. I don't like crowded shops.
22. Was your floor in an appalling state then?
23. The start of "Highway to Hell", then the whole of John Cage's 4'33" (just the bass clef, of course).
24. Ebay and PayPal are about to be divorced. The Torygraph did an article on reasons for this here but what is of more interest to me is whether it will remain compulsory to offer PayPal as a payment method for Ebay auctions. I haven't found anything yet - mind you, I haven't been searching very hard. There isn't an Ebay announcement covering it, though PayPal have just sent me an email.
25.
This album was on rotation along with 'Stars'. Yes, the same flat, the same time, the same woman. So you can kind of understand why I don't like Simply Red or The Eagles.
Did you never think of simply not liking the woman instead? Then you might have been able to enjoy the Eagles. No-one, of course, should ever enjoy Simply Red.
