  1. I like the way you've concealed the control cavity. Blends in nicely.
  2. It's impossible to overplay bass. I've found it's not so much an instrument as a person. There's always someone who's got to be making a noise all the time. Candidates from my experience have been percussionist, gob-iron player, and acoustic guitarist.
  3. I got a set of those (from Ebay). They aren't any degrees, they're just flat. Same thickness at both ends. For that reason, I don't trust them, although I'm sure some are properly sloping. I finished up using these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/167307833531 (brass guitar neck shim, if that doesn't work). You need to either experiment or calculate the thickness you'll need. To work out the thickness of a shim, you can do that by considering the positions of the shim S and the fixings about which the neck will effectively pivot P (the front edge of the neck pocket). Then given the nut position N, the ratio NS:PS is also the ratio of thickness of the shim to the height by which the nut is to move (similar triangles). I think, anyway, my own pure maths O-levels were over 50 years ago.
  4. The company is currently being run by Linda and Dennis Drumm (how appropriate) - I don't know if they're family. If not then I assume that JHS himself wanted his family to profit from the company and may not have anticipated that it wouldn't find a buyer.
  5. An interesting arithmetic system you have there.
  6. In passive mode, you may find that the treble control works as a treble cut, just like a passive bass. It's not a certainty though.
  7. Number of controls: does a push-pull pot count as two controls (one pot plus one switch)?
  8. Ibanez SRF705 Number of strings: 5 Number of frets : 32 (30 plus 2 bonus points for unlined) Scale length : 34 Number of pickups: 3 or 7 (5 individual bridge piezos) Number of controls (switches/knobs) : 6 or 11 (5 trim pots for piezo accessible at rear) Adjudication required on number of pickups and number of controls
  9. Annoying. Couldn't find the A-B footswitch that I normally use so I can switch between my bass and the guitarist-who-owns-a-bass's bass so I was unplugging mine and plugging in his, and vice versa. Unfortunately the jack socket on his amp is right next to the volume control and it's dead easy to knock it, which I did, immediately before playing "Wish you were here" and "Make me smile (come up and see me)". So I was rather close to silent on both those (I didn't know where the volume control was until afterwards). Oh well, another A-B footswitch is on its way from AliExpress.
  10. That sounds like a very narrow heel. Also, distance from 12th fret to end of heel would be useful.
  11. The most unpleasant 5-string I've owned (briefly) was a Squier Standard Precision Special V, the same as that but with J pickups and a 4+1 headstock. Nasty thick neck. Put me off FSO 5-strings. Soon after I bought it, I took delivery of an Antoniotsai 5-string and the Squier got sold immediately.
  12. Don't fancy yours. Bass, that is, not other half.
  13. Year started playing: 1975 Number of basses: 35 Music theory: 5 Technique: 7 Groove: 8
  14. World dyspraxia convention?
  15. He played it live by playing the notes in reverse order. It was such a signature part of the song that he finished up playing it twice.
  16. Did you have the rogue pictures imported (in the bottom panel) but not specifically inserted into the post? If you do that then the pictures get appended to the end of the post as presumably there's an assumption that you want to use them.
  17. You could try supporting it by the body and the headstock and resting something reasonably heavy on the neck.
  18. My band that eventually folded a few years ago had Mrs Zero as lead vocalist. The only two negative reactions we had were one when we were trying to recruit a guitarist and one potential candidate said women couldn't sing rock, and one from an audience member who decided Mrs Zero couldn't sing and followed her everywhere telling her so, even into the toilets. He was a big bastard so no question of just giving him the kicking he so richly deserved [1] - I assume he was the pub bully. So yes, there are some dickheads around. OTOH, we played in total to thousands of people so it's not a big proportion. Did the promoter hear you at this gig, or is he just going on the fact there's a female singer without hearing what she's like? [1] As a devout coward, I would obviously have delegated this task
  19. Put strap locks on the bass. Everyone has different favourites, from Grolsch bottle washers up. Nothing more embarrassing than twisting your strap when putting the bass on and having it crash to the floor (fortunately I say this without personal experience). Take a fan and a towel. Make sure you know where you're parking and whether you're loading/unloading from there.
  20. Don't you have a reunion tour to pay for your divorce?
  21. It's the English equivalent of "schadenfreude", which, as a German word, is no longer permitted since Brexit.
  22. The band that I dep for has a mandatory bass solo. Just the one, though.
  23. Well, I didn't take the photos. That's guitarists for you. The monitors are Alto TS408s, which have the mains leads and XLR leads coming out of the back. When the audience are literally inches from you, them treading on a mains lead and pulling it out is always a possibility. And although the room on Saturday was comparatively massive, the enthusiastic dancers and sing-alongers got as close to us as possible.
  24. Many years ago, I had two and they sounded quite different. The fact that one was fretted and the other was fretless had nothing to do with it, obviously.
