1. I'd like to get a few more of these in but it seems a bit of an alien concept to the current band. Done 3 rehearsals in past 14 months. Dozens of gigs though. Covers, hey ho...
2. It's the beer holder strapped to your right leg that worries me...
3.
Kev, I will love you forever for that line
Awww shucks... I'll settle for a pint if I ever get to see your band
4. Checked my diary and I'm off work all week from 7th July. Just checked if there were tickets left for Wolverhampton and there were so I'm going. Not seen Sheehan play since the Mr Big 'Lean into It' tour...
5. Yep, ultimately it was the man that was special not what he happened to ply his trade on and he aint never coming back.
6. One of the most effective entrances I saw was on Marillion's misplaced childhood tour. Band start up in semi darkness except for Fish singing behind a white paper screen so he's in silhouette. Except it's not him but a roadie miming whilst Fish calmly walks down the centre isle of the theatre singing through a cordless mic. Everyone is looking at the paper screen and only start to cotton on what is happening as he walks past them. Simple but incredibly effective. It had probably been done before (by Genesis I'd imagine ) but worked brilliantly on the night. As it was pre internet/social media few if any of the audience that hadn't seen a previous show knew what was going on.
7. If I were a guitarist I'd start playing 'Taurus' by Spirit until someone came to tell me not only was 'Stairway' banned but I wasn't even playing it right.
8. If you can do it well then the intros can sometimes be as entertaining as the songs themselves. Have a listen to Tull's 'Bursting Out' album for evidence. But you need a front man who can pull it off and most sadly can't. There are other instances where an explanation of why a song was written can be quite illuminating (at least before the internet where we of course now know everything about anything all the time ). I recall David Gates telling the audience at a gig I went to how 'Everything I Own' was often misinterpreted for example. Sometimes you need a lull in the flow or a set can get too overwhelming especially if its a band that doesn't do a lot of 'light n shade' in their repertoire.
9.
I got the chance to shake his hand after the gig. I'm hoping some of the magic may have rubbed off
It did, he's been noodling around with 'Comfortably Numb' in his hotel room ever since...
10. Just checked the price of these new and Soundslive have the 2010 models (with only single rather than double jazz PU at the bridge) for a little over £1500, they list Fender's RRP at over two grand !
11. The one taking up the middle row in the 'photos' section looks like it could have your eye out.
12. Yeah we usually help get all the cases out of the way as he's setting up in our lot. Probably takes him 20min max. I find it hopeless trying to work around a half assembled kit in a confined performing space (which is often in our situation) so if I'm there first I'll get my basic backline into position and leave it alone until he's set up or if he's before me I wait and sort out his empty cases (I'm getting better at the 'russian doll' thing) then I set my rig up once he's done. We always seem to have at least a half hour to wait after soundcheck before being expected to perform so there's really no rush. 45-60 min sounds a long time to get organised to me.
13. Best for metal? Pint of brasso surely. Hits the spot every time but can affect your eyesight.
14.
Good luck to the guy...quite admire his supposed stance that the time with Queen has passed after FM died even though the newer unit with Paul Rogers et al, is far better, IMO. But then without the writing element, they are not much more than a covers/tribute band..but again, nothing wrong with that, they've earned it and bring joy to zillions
Much as I like Paul Rodgers I didn't think he was a good fit for Queen at all I'm afraid. I saw them doing something together at the end of an awards show (i recal it because I hardly ever watch them) and thought 'Interesting experiment but I hope it doesn't go any further than this' even though I'm not much of a Queen fan. If I'd been lucky enough to be JD I think I'd have bailed when he did too.
15.
"That way, you can still be part of the performance in a song that simply doesn't need a bass." I do not understand.
Believe it or not there are some songs that do not employ a bass guitar. The implication in the article is that if you play other instruments there may be certain tunes where you could use your other skills rather than just miss that one out. That was my interpretation anyway. And it makes sense. I just don't play any other instrument to put it into practice.
16. Finally got round to hearing it, concur with above. Leave the initial guitar bit out and just come in with the synth. I think the section with the brass sound as the 'solo' instrument could do with trimming a bit here and there and maybe leave out some of the 'cha cha cha' synth sound stabs, getsw a bit repetitive. But I'm not a writer in any shape or form and officially know taff all. Overrall very enjoyable, bit of an Ozric Tenatcles vibe in places. Still hoping to get to Haberdashers in time to catch you guys.

18. Worth a visit to 'gangplanks-r-us' AT?
19. You've also got the storage issue between this street party and the next one if you buy decent kit to hang on to. Probably worth looking at hiring, maybe ask round some local bands if they are not gigging that day if they can do a cheap hire deal?
20.
The Sterling, made by Music Man, is a slightly smaller more agressive sounding Stingray.
Should have called it The 'Erniesarseyson' to avoid confusion but it won't fit on the headstock
21.
What've you got? Like other bands from their genre, their live output is where the meat of it is. Happy to make suggestions if required.
Just checked and I have Anchor Drops and Mantis. I think they were passed on to me as mp3's by a mate who knew I liked a bit of prog. Don't think I've listened to either for a year or two.
22. I have a couple of their albums floating around in my iTunes library but not listened to them for a year or two, maybe I shoul dload them on the ipod and give them another go. Wouldn't be able to get to any of the gigs anyway mind...
23. Once you've got it cleaned up and got all that rust & sh*t off it and maybe a new coat of paint it'll be lovely...
24.
youtube some of Glenn Hughes new stuff. 62 and still rattlin oot the high notes. On the other end of the scale, Jon bon jovi and Seb bach are two examples that sound sh*ter and sh*ter through time and they're both still reasonably young.
Hughes is a bit of a freak, never led a lifestyle that was particularly condusive to keeping a good voice (though I think over the last 20 or so years he's taking much better care of himself) but just keeps on going. Got to be the best rock voice of anyone of his age by now as the others have slipped by the wayside. Still better than some half his age.
25. If it means I have to buy a red 5 stringed bass then I'm afraid I'm probably screwed... though in truth there's a fair bit of sensible (if fairly obvious) good advice in there too.
