1. These are great, I've always fancied one. Unfortunately, I'm about to finish putting back together a BB450 so this would make for 4 BBs in the house, a little excessive, I think even my very tolerant wife would ask why I bought "4 of the same bass" then watch her eyes glaze over as I explain the difference between passive, active, P and reverse P, PJ, fretless etc...
2.
Sorry but that's not even vaguely Mosrite-y. What does EB stand for in this case? Ernie Ball?
I would guess it stands for "Electric Bass" like it always has done. I have nothing official to back that up, but I'll wager my guess has more chance of being right than yours
3. Time to kick this thread back to the the top with a 1985 El Toro: Grrrrr! Here it is next to my Tribute L-2000: Go Team G&L!
4. Any bass I can't afford is overpriced?
5. Ha ha, I bought the very pickup mentioned above from Steve. Smooth transaction, good comms and excellent packaging - free Tupperware included
6.
Forgive my ignorance but what does BBOT mean?
Bent Bit Of Tin - a rather unflattering description of Fender's original/classic bridges
7.
I tend to find that rinsing them in water works better than urine. Might just be me, but I have always thought that having your ears smell of wee was a bit uncool? Mind you, if you rinse them in water and then put them in a pouch full of urine that would defeat the object......................
8. Funnily enough, I watched that vid a fair bit while waiting for my RD to arrive It would be interesting to find out what settings and what other effects are in use in this particular example, I can't really tell anything from the vid.
9.
Custom ACS ER 15 filters. No contest.
I wasn't aware that there was a contest offered
10. Foam plugs make sound rather muffled and unnatural. If it's just some gig-going plugs you're looking for, have a quick google for er-20 earplugs. There are two sizes of er-20 (I found the small ones more comfortable). Basically these will take a slice off the dBs but in a balanced way. See the manufacturer's page for more info: http://www.etymotic.com/hp/er20.html You should be able to pick up a set for a tenner. They're reusable, just give 'em a wee rinse/wipe and they usually come in a wee pouch.
11.
I'd love an RD Artist, really cool looking bass, and I really wanna hear how the Moog stuff sounds. Looking fwd to pics!
http://www.ifb.co.uk...D%20soundclips/ That's all the extremes, but it does everything inbetween. Remember that having the compression/expansion and bright mode simultaneously is only available on post late '79 models with the two mini toggle switches in place of the single three way Moog switch.
12. When I saw the title of this thread, I thought for a fleeting moment that Fender had come up with something revolutionary and new. Then the sensible part of my brain caught up, slapped the free thinking part of my brain and then they had a good chuckle together. Sorry for the diversion. In all honesty the date (and location) of manufacture of a particular bass is neither here nor there. If it feels and sounds good to you, then it IS good and if you like it enough then you should buy it. It doesn't matter one jot what "round the campfire" talk exists about certain periods of production. I highly doubt that anyone here has sufficient overview of the entire output of Fender from a certain era and location in order to make overall judgements applicable to the entirety of it.
13. The specific answers to your questions: The EB-3 is a bass and not much else. What I mean by that is that it'll do you a reasonable job within fairly regular rock boundaries but if you're looking for sparkling highs and hi-fi slap sound then it won't be so much use. Is it good for a beginner? Well, my first bass was an Epi EB-3. It does have quite a slim neck, but it's quite unbalanced because of the little SG body, long scale and giant shovel of a headstock with full size tuners. This means that the neck will always be wanting to tip towards the floor and you'll have to keep it propped up. This might hamper your technique. Honestly, if I had my time again, knowing what I know now I wouldn't have an Epi EB-3 as my first bass (or any bass, come to think of it). This is just my opinion but when you're starting out you'd be much better off taking a more balanced bass like a Squier Jazz or Precision, or Yamaha make good stuff (an RBX can probably be obtained new within your budget, or a second hand BB) and while this is just my experience, I bought the EB-3 because it looked pretty with no idea what I actually wanted from a bass and it sat unused for ages. You might love it. Ultimately, the only way to check is to try one first. There must be one in a shop somewhere. Knowing what I know now, and although I don't really care for any of them, out of that four I would take the Les Paul Special. I had an Epi Les Paul Standard bass once (they don't make them any more) and it was lovely.
14.
<p>I feel guilty now, I've started a depressing thread!! Someone in Aberdeen got their head trapped in a public bin over the weekend! http://www.bbc.co.uk...etland-19783214 Something to cheer us all up!!
Sorry guys, I thought I saw a bass headstock in there
15. Never say never (life sometimes gets in the way and tastes change). I've even been known to sell a Gibson in order to fuel my further curiosity but I suppose the one that is completely exempt save for keeping the roof over our heads (and it would go last) would be my Gibson RD Artist. My wife (the bass fairy) got me it and as such its perpetual presence in my collection is not up for debate.
16. I went to see Rich yesterday. Just thought I'd update you and let you know that he's making good progress after his op and is weaning himself off the stormtrooper's boot: It's pretty awesome looking, as long as you don't have to wear it
17.
I had a case of batteries only lasting a monthor less in my bass, then I discovered that there was a short in the circuit which meant the active circuit was on even when a jack wasn't plugged in.
That's true, I had an active Yamaha with the same problem, about a month and the battery would be dead, regardless of how much it was played. I'd check that out.
18. Edited because I can't read. I would say that I've had no problems with Duracell Procells.

Simple reason is Thomann were out of stock of the HB when I wanted it and couldn't commit to a date when new stock would arrive. Also got an extended 5 year warranty with the RedSub for not much extra. The red speaker is cool, but was neither here nor there in the decision
