  1. I would say that intonation matters just as much on fretless as fretted. Chris McIntyre, renowned luthier, advised me to intonate a fretless with something small like a slim allen key. Pick the open string or harmonic then use the allen key directly over the twelfth position and pres it onto the board. That makes it as accurate as possible. Works really well for me.
  2. Liked that a lot. Nicely written and a good mix.
  3. As none of you have any taste I have to get up to the control room and press the ekshploder button.
  4. This is only the beginning of the end of the name luthiers that first appeared in the 1980s. As I understand it Rob Green will not allow the Status name to continue when he retires. The Spector name is at least continuing under new ownership with Mr. Spector as a consultant. All the big name luthiers will be heading towards retirement now.
  5. Rob has been away all last week so will have a good bit of catching up to do when back tomorrow.
  6. I have just had a call from Dawn at Status to explain the situation detailed above. This has been a misunderstanding on my part and no fault of either Mr. or Mrs. Green. I had jumped to the wrong conclusion and reacted badly. These things unfortunately happen on the internet and it's an example of a situation that should be talked about before you react.
  7. Perfect. Thanks for all that.
  8. How did you buff it at the end?
  9. Is that really nail varnish? It's a much smaller patch of clear lacquer I have to replace but essentially the same job. Nice job.
  10. Can anyone recommend the best high gloss polyester lacquer to repair chips in the finish of a bass and where would be best to buy small quantities. Thanks for any help.
  11. Why then, is it so difficult to say he is busy and doesn't want the work I could put his way. Because of that they have lost the sale of some parts, including a new pre amp. Probably won't be any great loss to them but very irritating nevertheless.
  12. I'd give Dawn a phone. You will get an answer from her. Rob was behaving very strangely with me over email this week.
  13. That’s b@&£@&ks. Just because I don’t climb Mount Everest doesn’t mean I’m not a walker. There are plenty of people on here who don’t play past the seventh fret on a fretted bass but it doesn’t mean they are not bass players.
  14. There might also be a new model coming in the near future. I bought a TC Ditto X4 recently at half the price it had been previously. The X2 had been replaced with a new model so would expect the X4 will be the same.
  15. Oh, I understand every bit of it. I've played with rock guitarists before.
  16. What I can hear sounds fantastic but I don't do Spotify so unfortunately can't hear anymore.
  17. A bass suitable for Spinal Tap. Big Bottom. As @Stub Mandrel says. [Face palm]
  18. Mighty impressive. Looks like the real thing. Well, it is the real thing. There's only one Blazerray. 👍
  19. There, corrected. Hopefully that doesn't taint your love too much 😄
  20. Liked that. Lots of attitude. Bass playing was good too. Could so easily have just stuck to the root note but had those little fills that add so much colour to the whole track. 👍
  21. 🤨 Whiterton and Tankable? 🤨
  22. For the extra price you get the privilege of having the straplock removed. I've noticed one or two very nice basses on Ebay getting no interest lately.
  23. You could easily change necks to a fretless. All it needs is a good setup with the fretless neck. How much is not a fortune to you. Cheaper good quality basses are the usual names, Ibanez, Cort, ESP LTD, etc. If you know how to setup your own basses you could simply buy a fretless neck to fit and change the setup to your taste. Maybe change strings as well as rounds can dig into some finger boards with softer woods.
  24. Very fine playing Sir. If that's an Ibanez Portamento bass it's the first time I've heard one sound that good. 👍
