1. I don't think it's a genuine Gibson though.
2. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the guys in Genesis and Pink Floyd started their working lives down the pit.
3. Scott Devine (obviously), Janek Gwizdala, Tony Gray, amongst others
4. When you get to Statii.com have a look at the top of the page and click on 'Catalogues & more'. Lots of info on all Status basses there.
5. Signal Path is looking for one of these. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/275231-wanted-hall-of-fame-full-size-version/
6.
The main message I took away from the clip..which some people seem not to have received.. is that a high end bass, or one especially made for you, is not going to make you a better player.
Very good point. However, I'll put it from another perspective. My Mother used to have a colleague who's son has progressed through the Orchestral music profession very successfully. In the 80s when he was a young man he entered a music competition playing his oboe. Without being arrogant he knew from his performance that he was good enough to win. He came second and was gutted. The judges took him aside afterwards and told him they were making a special award to him of £2000 towards the cost of a new instrument. They knew he was of a higher class than the other contestants but felt the quality of his instrument let him down.
7. If a P bass and that sound were all that was available that would cure my gas straight away. Not to my taste. I know I am in a minority there though. I do see his point. Much as I would not be without my Status and Overwater basses I also have a Cort bass that cost a tenth of the expensive ones and it is great to play. Wonderful neck. Fretwork needed a lot of attention though.
8. Thanks GF. The second run through used the ME-70 with slow gear, harmonist (1st & 3rd) and Chorus & delay. The Micro POG came in for the third run through
9. There's also Overwater. They build jazz basses in 4 or 5 different sizes.
10. It does sound like a plausible explanation. It's only two out of 13 videos. But if there are people out there trying to fleece money from large companies it fits there will be some taking advantage of unknowns on YouTube.
11. I uploaded a video to YouTube a few days ago. I found today it had been "challenged" with a copyright infringement complaint. Strange as Silent Night was written nearly 200 years ago so well in the public domain. I arranged, played and recorded the whole thing so not using anyone else's backing music. The complaint informed me I didn't have to do anything but the "complainant" could put ads in front of it. I lodged a challenge to this and within seconds the following appeared in my email inbox: "Good news! Your dispute wasn't reviewed within 30 days, so the copyright claim on your YouTube video has now been released". This is the second time this has happened with public domain material in videos I have uploaded. Is this YouTube finding any excuse to put ads in front of videos? Discuss.
12. Pink Floyd's Animals album. That's it. The sound of the bass just caught my ear and I bought one that summer. Still my favourite Floyd album
13. Confusing! Body shape and head say ESP LTD but pickups, controls and bridge pieces are not like any ESP I have seen, and I own two of them. What does it say on the head? I wonder if it has had a new face put on it?
14. Interesting comparison. I have the micro pog and love it. It's the more natural tone of the sub and +1 that I like. I can see why you prefer the more synth like tone of the others though.
15. Yes, I have done this. Wood is very flexible so will take quite a bend without any problem. Think of the sides of an acoustic guitar.
16. Thank you.
17. I have just finished an ambient flavoured arrangement of Silent Night. All played on my Overwater Fretless through lots of effects which are listed in the description. No looping on this one, tracked onto Cubasis on the iPad. Have an ambient Christmas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_SlqJvNNLg
18. Never been a fan of P basses but the middle two make up for that in every way known to man. Very beautiful.
19. Yeah, not unexpected but who knows. http://youtu.be/p75V7EFiDmU
20. As soon as I read the title of this thread one song came to mind, Steve Hackett's Shadow of the Heirophant. All the more poignant that he is still alive and able to play it. http://youtu.be/6SEgJtq2JjU
21. Look at it another way. If you had to pay for advertising, how much would that cost? Doing it this way you are playing to a crowd who are likely to be simpithetic to your music. Advertising can never guarantee your target audience will ever see that advert.
22. When I read this thread title one song came straight to mind, Rise Again by The Rankin Family from Canada. A beautiful song and all the more poignant that Rayline Rankin who sang it died three years ago. http://youtu.be/hffAItzLj2A
23.
Will try my best mate, I'll almost certainly be there and if I am, all my ACGs will come with. Eude
Shame for Dave Swift. No one will be watching him. We'll all be standing open mouthed, ogling this bass.
24. There have been a number of folks on hear who profess to be free from it. Denial is a terrible thing. There is no escape. Mwahahaha!
25. If it's the one I think it is then it's a copy of the Curbow bass. Cort and Tanglewood made their versions too. Great little basses, and I mean little. PICS!!!
