1. Rickenbacker 4001S Massive Chris Squire fan in my teens (still am). As a 17 year old in 1973 I borrowed all the cash from several family members (none of whom knew I borrowed from the others) and travelled from Warwick to Wimbledon to buy one in a private sale for the princely sum of £230. Fireglo & gorgeous, the bass was only a few months old. Sadly I never did it justice (only in dreams) and finally sold it about 15 years ago.
  2. Fundamentally flawed. Nice noodling 😞
  3.
A Dan Lakin Bob Glaub P bass. Please!
Yep, me too!
  4. There's a video demo on the main Sire website
  5. Interesting. Is the £400 based on current exchange $:£ or Eagle's selling price. Quite fancy the LaBella strings rather than the Aguila. Have you played the Me-bass?
  6. Indeed, MM played on most of Bryan Ferry solo albums & you wouldn't automatically know it was him 👍
  7.
It's a great little bass, intonation isn't a problem as I got the fretless! It has been returned though as this one has a dodgy connection somewhere and crackled occasionally when plugged in. I love the ultra short scale fretless though, not quite sure whether to get a replacemen or go for a slightly smaller ukulele bass. There's also this Ortega PM Shaman coming out soon, looks awesome but twice the price!
I know it's been a long time since the last post, but just wondered if anyone has any thoughts about the Magic Fluke Tinder bass uke or the Gold Tone me-bass? Both are solid body short scale bass uke's, which to my ears sound & play better than the more traditional style small bassess like the Kala.
  8. Great job Michael. Really enjoyed watching this. GAS!!
  9.
love Bobby has really character and charisma could listen to him talk for hours but his playing!!! Always like watching this.. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ls8S-FZgtU0
Man, I thought I was a real bass aficionado. I've had the good fortune to see live Jaco, Marcus, Stanley, Victor, Squire, King, Entwistle, Garrison, League, Manring but had never listened to Bobby Vega til I played this. WOW! What a player, what tone, what a groove! Love the Zep riffs. If anyone loves bass & hasn't seen this then please watch it. You'll grin from ear to ear! 😀👍
  10. Probably over 10 years since I was in Orlando and went to Bass Central. If you're staying in the tourist part (near Disney etc.) the store is located on a 'strip mall' about 45 minutes to an hours drive away through downtown Orlando. I must confess to being disappointed in that it was much smaller than I expected it to be. Long but narrow. I plugged in a Fodera Monarch (first time I'd ever held a Fodera). Not sure if it was the set up, but I thought it sounded crap for the money they wanted. I've owned GB's, Status, Pensa Suhr jazz, Alembics, Benavente, Kubicki, Zon etc.etc. so I think I had a fair idea of what a good sounding boutique bass sounds like. My only purchase was a copy of Bass Player magazine. YMMV of course & enjoy if you make the trek.
  11.
relief improved, string height tweeted on the E, intonation done. I now have a very annoying buzz from the bridge spring on the G, a midge oo short by the look of it, anyone had this ?
It's probably a flea rather than a midge! 😂 (I'll get my coat!)
  12.
Hardly seems a worthwhile saving for a second hand instrument, loss of warranty / swapping back with the dealer etc.
I agree. No gig bag with it either. May as well buy new. Can you call a relic'd bass new? 🤔
  13.
I'm going to run a book on when the first one comes up 2nd hand... oddly I reckon it'll sell just as quick as it did new!
& someone (not from this community surely?) will probably pay more than they could buy a new one for! Watching the eBay one to see if my theory comes true 😂
  14. What was it about the bass that didn't do it for you? I'm interested because I frequently have GAS for some of these boutique basses, but often they're turned around quickly & seem to lose value on the original purchase price like a new car. Just unsure if it's worth the risk.
  15.
Just saw this on ebay if anyone's looking for a bargain... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Flea-Jazz-Bass-Rosewood-Fingerboard-Roadworn-Shell-Pink-/172267974093?hash=item281bf8adcd:g:42YAAOSwvg9XgCkd
How's that a bargain? All the UK stockists have been selling at that price surely? At least all the ones I've seen online have.
  16. Tried one in Bass Direct a/b'd with the Genzler Magellan. Preferred the Eich. Both quite hifi, but Eich had more presence. Then tried out a second hand Tecamp Puma 1000 & there was no contest for me. Bought the Tecamp even though it was more expensive than the Eich.
  17.
I think it's a great album. although I have a friend who is lifelong Yes fan and still refuses to listen to it.
Saw the Drama tour with Horn & Downes (ex-Buggles) in Brighton the year the album was released. There were 'fans' that night booing because of the line up changes following Anderson's departure. Go figure!
  18. One year ago today we lost a great rock bass player. Gone but never forgotten. RIP 'fish' 🐟
  19.
Mine arrived last year... really pleased with it. What did you go for?
Ooh that is a thing of real beauty. Got a hankering for a yellow bass. Can you share details please? 😍
  20.
mine
Is it a 10 or 12 string? Struggling to count those big ugly tuners 😉
  21. I had an Alembic Stanley Clarke model, which although it sounded great was very very neck heavy (neck dive). How does this compare in that respect?
  22.
Fantastic stuff, I'll take this over Kanye West last year every time. What the hell is that double neck??
Looks like one of those plastic jobs you get with a Playstation or Xbox ;0)

    Zz Top

Yep Foals have got real energy. Just a thought on Dusty's telecaster bass - does the reverse headstock give a tighter e-string as it has a longer travel to the tuner?
