1. Just seen all this Clarky. Really sorry to hear this Mate as I know how much time, effort and dough you have put into that band I think your idea of a break and spending more down time with the family for a bit will be just what the Doctor ordered while you decide what to do music wise. Cheers, Jon
2. My 2 pence from experience: SD Vintage for that classic sound or the Wizard Area51 for a huge more modern P sound. Good luck!
3. At my secondary school and in my younger Brothers' year was 2 of the 3 Scouting For Girls lads. I knew them from the local gigging scene and Greg the bass player worked in a local Threshers offy!
4. I run 1 or 2 Compacts off my MEsa/Boogie Bass 400+ and no problems, ever!
5. Dang! Was going to look into a quad valve pre amp later this year. Sad news
6.
It was on whilst I was talking to a client, so I missed both dialogues during it as I can't multi task
iPlayer will have it soon I think?
7. Nice to see and not bad for a prime time interview slot. Stellar looking amp rig he has too!
8. Just saw a lovely shot of the Shuker headstock on the intro to the piece. Good advertising for Jon Shuker!
9. Lovely bass. I have one myself and can't recommend these US Lakland Glaubs highly enough. If you're after a 'Super P' then you could do a lot worse than this bass right here. Also someone will get it for a great price! edit: spelling!
10. I'm doing some work on the 'battle' leg of the UK version of 'The Voice' as it will be called here and had a production meeting today funnily enough! There is going to be a 5 or 6 piece live band I can confirm.
11. Thanks RicksF52! It's jst over £3k here: http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_adam_clayton_signature_pbass.htm?sid=956177a41cdfe8216023c8adaf38c418
12. How cool! Was he alright?
13. Beautiful! Have a bump on me.

15. I would go for a Hipshot A style FM1 or 2 bridge (FM is for Fender Mount, Version 1 is for the 5 hole top mount basses and the version 2 is for string through/top loading 3 hole basses) Not cheap but VERY nice units IMO.
16. I'm another BarefacedBass Compact fan and would heartily recommend that but the portability and oomph from the Midget sounds exactly what you need. Good luck and Alex will see you right I'm sure.
17. Hi there, Where are the band based and what kind of rehearsal & writing schedule do you keep please? Thanks, jonthebass
18. Great video, thanks for the link. I enjoyed that!
19.
Hi, I like these pre CBS worn P's and J's ... here we go:
Is that yours Dafonky? Any more pics?
20. My recommendation is the MXR M-80 bass DI+, It does a great bass distortion sound. One word of advice though - It sounds pretty crap on it's own but in the band mix it sounds/mixes in absolutely lovely! Good luck, Jon
21. Not good news here is it and I feel for you G FWIW I will never go down the custom build route ever again and sad stories like this keep reinforcing that decision. I hope you get some kind of satisfactory outcome soon. All the best, Jon
22. The new Fender High Mass Vintage bass bridges and the Badass 3 bridges are 3 screw and dual string loading units. I have both and have strung through bridge and through body on both with absolutely no problems. Hope that helps
23. Interestingly not a lot of my fave music was done on P basses! One lovely clanky/thumpy example up ther for me is:
24.
That's about the end of the discussion so far as I can see. If someone has the money and wants to spend it, irrespective of their ability or what they are doing with it, that's a matter between them and their bank balance. Personally I would rather buy 10 basses for £200 each than one for £2000 but that is just my preference.
This and ultimately it's supply and demand that pushes the prices sky high on boutique basses. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that pretty much the case with Fodera, Alembic, Sadowsky, etc, etc? And to answer the OP - They can be the best thing you've ever handled if it ticks all your boxes! The key is to definitely make sure it ticks your boxes first... edit:to answer the OP!
