Custom Amp commisions start at £3000
That's Cornell amps I hasten to add, not Purple Chili!
Wow!! I love it. How does it sound? Theyre the kinda amp specs that would suit me, class d at 2 ohm. Congrats!
Thanks SOYB. It does super clean to almost Lemmy on the gain control and the Volume just brings that sound up to your desired level. The EQ is centered at some useful frequencies for tone shaping but I don't know what they are. ATB, JTB.

So, way back in September/October this amp caught my attention. After some emailing with Mike @Purple Chili I pulled the trigger and ordered a 'Phat Bass 750W' amp. It's a hybrid amp of the valve pre-amp and class D power amp variety. The pre-amp is a Denis Cornell hand wired creation no less! See his other work at http://www.dc-develo....com/index.html It has: Active & Passive separate inputs, Gain (which starts to colour & distort the more you crank it up), Bass, Middle, Treble and Volume controls. It does 560W @8 Ohms, 750W @4 Ohms and 1,100W @2 Ohms!!! From initial usage it sounds great. I had the gain at about 1 o'clock with everything else set roughly at 12 o'clock through one of my Barefaced Compacts and it was sounding very good - A couple of Clash bass lines on my P bass with flats incase you were wondering Sorry for the crap picture quality but wanted to show it off

Be careful with bookings on Interparcel this week....
Noisyjon replied to Musicman20's topic in General Discussion
I'm awaiting a parcel that was due to be collected and moved by City Link and there's been 2 no shows by them now! It's now coming via a different carrier... Maybe it's City Link that's in trouble? -
Thunderfunk 550b withdrawn (sorry cant sell this baby).
Hi, I have a 2010 Fender Custom Shop Jazz Bass Lake Placid Blue that id like to trade for something. Ive got another jazz which is like this , so hit me with your trades. Sorry to be vague but I know it when I see it !! cheers. By the way this bass is showroom mint with case and all candy.
As mentioned above some more specifics (NOS, Relic, '64 Jazz?) & pics of your bass would be appreciated. That said, Potentially how about a Musicman Stingray 30th Anniversary model?
What is that you're doing in the show? The whole preparation thing for the Battles shows (as we filmed them in 2 days) was really heavy - long rehearsals, very little breaks. As for the money, well, it always can be better, but it's not bad where it is, though.
I'm a Sound Engineer at the studios where it was recorded. Unfortunately (fortunately?!) not playing bass on it!

Well I can report back that The Voice UK 'battle' stage was blinkin long loud days and no fun to work on whatsoever I hope they paid you well Faithless

Er, Nice bass but a slight hijack here - I have an almost identical Bravewood available FS at just over a third of the price of that! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/154505-fs-bravewood-50s-p-bass-custom-ordered/ -
Makes total sense. Cheers!
Another point you mention is listening to a mix in a car - When you have a mix you're happy with burn it off to CD and listen to it in cars/home hi-fi's/portable stereos aswell as iPods, etc as a confidence listen across those environments can give you ideas on where to tweak it to be a good overall balanced mix. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. Yeah, it's clarity and flaw-exposure I'm after. No point having it sound all nice only to pop your CD into the car stereo and then grind your teeth for the duration of the journey!
TBH the room will be affecting what you're hearing as much as the monitor speakers you use. My advice is go for the speakers you like but acoustically treat your room in due course to get the best results. There's a great article about it all here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb06/articles/studiosos.htm

IMO the Jazz p'up doesn't add enough extra to warrant routing and doing the work to an existing bass. On a scratch built/pre made P/J bass then fair enough! I have used the SD Hot Stack for Jazz & Qtr pound P bass setup and it sounded great. I'm currently up for a change and the Nordstand set with the split coil jazz seems to be the set to get. Bass Direct sell them too! I'm another that's curious about the P/P sound in a Fender P bass... Good luck and let us know what you go for.
I was just being a gear-stalker, admiring his (I assume) Pino Palladino CS Precision. Thats how sad I am
It is a Pino Clarky. He & his band were at my work last year and they played live then... What's slightly worrying is I was idly wondering if I could de-string, dismantle and take it home without them noticing

Withdrawn: Bravewood 50's P bass - Custom ordered

Chaps, now try it with someone else turning the frequency up so you can't see the screen/controls and without telling you when they're going to do it. Then see where you lose the high end... From experience of this it will be a slightly different frequency than what you thought it would be.

Here you go... Just seen all this Clarky. Really sorry to hear this Mate as I know how much time, effort and dough you have put into that band I think your idea of a break and spending more down time with the family for a bit will be just what the Doctor ordered while you decide what to do music wise. Cheers, Jon

My 2 pence from experience: SD Vintage for that classic sound or the Wizard Area51 for a huge more modern P sound. Good luck!
