3. I've got a reverse headstock Bravewood for sale if you fancy? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=154505
4. Hello, This bas sis now withdrawn from sale on BC. The bass was completed in March 2010 and the spec's are: Body: 55 P bass shape with body & forearm contours, Swamp ash, Nitro butterscotch finish, Badass 3 bridge (string through) Chrome, Chrome string ferules, Single ply black pickguard, Seymour Duncan Custom Shop custom ordered 'Hot Stack for '51 P bass', CTS premium vol & tone controls, Sprague orange drop cap, Chrome control plate, Chrome control knobs, Electro socket side mount jack socket Chrome Schaller straplocks. Neck: 34" scale, 20 frets, Reverse tele headstock (lefty) Flame maple neck & board, Nitro vintage tint, Black side and face dots (usual position), Vintage style truss rod, Carbon fibre reinforcement, Hipshot HB3 Clover tuners, 1.75" (44.5mm) nut width, Round string tree, jumbo fretwire, Bone nut, 'Fender Precision Bass' period correct decal. Don't know what the fingerboard radius is I'm afraid but guess it's a vintage style 7.5 inches. It weighs 4.3Kilos/9.48 Pounds The bass has had moderate use and there's some buckle rash on the back but it has not gone through to the wood. Please see the pictures of it below. When it was about 7 months old there was a truss rod fault which meant it had to go back to the manufacturer to have a new one fitted, but it's all OK now and I want to be completely honest about it's history. As a note - The re-assembly and setup of the instrument after the repairs was done by Martin @The Gallery so it truly plays like a Custom Shop bass now. I have the receipt for this work. Comes in a Hiscox Liteflite hard case which has a broken/come away fabric tag on the internal compartment. This does not affect the case at all.
5. My current rig for me: Fender MB PJ or Lakland USA Bob Glaub P > MXR M80 > MarkBass SA450 or Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ > 2 x Barefaced Bass Compact cabs.
6. Oh my, this is a beaut! PM'd!
7. You can get a special cable made to properly load/run 2 cabs off one speaker socket. OBBM does them for instance...
8. A pair of Barefaced Bass Compact cabs will sort you right out! I run my Mesa Boogie 400+ through a pair and it all sounds as good as it should
9. ooh, nice. Any more pics we can see please?
10.
A while ago I posted on here asking if anyone fancied a support slot at Shepherds Bush Empire. Well, the time of the gig has finally come and next Friday we take to the stage along with Brighton's finest Mean Poppa Lean. Its a good fun party night and it would be great if any basschatters fancied popping in to see us. We're playing Muse/Killers/80's cheese covers, so nothing too obtuse or offensive. Mean Poppa Lean are, well, rather special. You gotta come see them! Tickets are on ticketmaster etc but just rock up on the day and they'll be plenty on the door. Thanks in advance to anyone that can make it! Nick
Still rocking the Boogie bass cabs I see Nick. You taking them to this gig? Cheers, Jon
11. Another one here. I just started playing that way and am happy with the situation!
12.
...Always check the operating frequency carefully before buying any radio gear, especially second hand stuff. Lots of people have been offloading high quality older gear that operates outwith Channel 70 at bargain prices because they know it is no longer legal to use in the UK.
Just a note that outside channel 70 is available for licensing but not everywhere in the UK. It is defo a question for JFMG. Channel 38 is now becoming the preferred channel but a 'shared' license is required for that. Have a ganders at: THIS THREAD for more info. Cheers, Jon
13. I think Alex's 'Issue #6' and 'Issue #7' editions explain what you're asking: http://barefacedbass.com/bgm-columns.htm Cheers, Jon
14.
Can extensive practice ever make up for lack of talent? If I practiced for 50 years, would I ever be as good as Jaco was after one?
Surely if you practice alot then you will become talented at one style or another. Do you want to play like Jaco then?
15. Sounds like a suitably mad band in the making. If you can stomach it hang around and see what happens, you never know when things are that unpredictive!
16.
'oo are you??
He's Member No. 1.... Nothing to see here, Move on!
17. Foo Fighter live from the iTunes festival!
18. Interesting, would love to have a go to see what it's all about!
19. +1 to all that for me...
20.
What about the above??
That was specific to the other thread to stop what was being quoted and said there. This is a follow up feedback thread so that BCers can see how it all panned out in the end and to make up their own mind from my experience & opinion. Cheers, Jon
21.
So...not really a happy ending. Thanks for keeping us informed. I guess his customer service is never going to improve much (lets hope his neck construction does!).
The only way I can put it diplomatically is that it was all very disappointing. On the plus side it now plays like a Custom Shop instrument after its setup at The Gallery!
22. I managed to get John @Bravewood Guitars to take on a custom build for me. It was an early 50’s style P bass with some twists of my own. There were various emails over the approx. 7 months build time and all went well. After about 9 months of having the bass I noticed that there was a rattling sound coming from the neck. There were various theories and I even changed the tuners to some nice Hipshots but to no avail. It still rattled badly. When the bass was approx 13 months old I got Martin @The Gallery to take a look and he almost instantly showed & told me it was a truss rod problem. The advice I got from him was that I need to take it up with Bravewood Guitars which I promptly did. I was told PDQ by John Elliot @Bravewood Guitars that he only offers a 12 month warranty and any work needing doing was chargeable. He also suggested I could just live with it. On a £1,500, now faulty with a non working truss rod in the bass! After talking to a friend about it he suggested composing another polite email appealing to his better nature/professional pride and to help me out with this problem. This was done and I heard nothing back. It was at this point that I started a thread on BC and it ran to 6 pages with all sorts of help, advice & opinions. Then John Elliot emailed me saying he had read the thread and offered to take the neck back for a repair with some provisos like I don’t post any more on BC about the situation or quote his emails on here. Upon hearing this I couriered it back to him ASAP, at my cost. The neck returned to me with no communication about what was done/required to rectify it. I then took the kit of parts to The Gallery and it was rebuilt and setup by them, again at my cost. Now this may not seem like a big deal from reading this now but there was a point in time where I was left hanging thinking that my £1,500 bass, just over a year old, was knackered and unplayable with the only course of action looking like a legal based one. My closing thoughts are this – John Elliot @Bravewood Guitars left me feeling massively let down, now out of pocket by another £100 or so and having to potentially face a fight for what turned out are my rights after getting advice from the OFT’s Consumer Direct helpline referring to the specifics of the Sales of Goods Act 1979 (as amended). This is something that he should be well aware of especially with the type of products he sells. Thankfully I didn’t have to go down this route as it seems the thread on BC got him to think again. Bravewood Guitars is never getting another penny out of me and I will never recommend him or his instruments to anyone. Please beware of this man & his business practices if you are thinking of doing business with him.
23.
Buy both?
See, You're in the swing of things already! Welcome aboard and do ask all the silly questions you want/have - We've all had them and been answered magnificently on here. Cheers, Jon
24.
...Might be paying for a name at that price?
Possibly a bit but the Sennheiser G2/G3 equipment was designed from the ground up to be the best sounding & performing it can be for the money. For silly money prices take a look at the Sennheiser 3000 & 5000 series gear, but then it's that price for a reason - It's top end pro RF equipment and the best at what it does.
