Gallien Krueger MB 200 - can't believe how good it sounds
nottswarwick replied to nottswarwick's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yes in my opinion as long as you do not need to be unreasonably loud on stage and have PA support for big gigs, and use a 4 ohm cab. I used a EBS neo 212
Those of you that have one, loud enough to gig? And what cabs are you using?
-

you could link 2 of these together with the line out function too. Or just get an MB500. -
Well well well. Listened to a bit of stuff this afternoon. The unavoidable outcome seems to be that the GK MB200 is awesome, and to my ears at least sounds "better" than the EBS head. To qualify this, I will say that the HD 350 is clearly a more powerful beast, and has an excellent sound to it, very hifi and aggressive if required, but also able to be solid and mellow and deep. But then it should, they are bloody expensive new. The GK is just simple and deep and clear. Amazing for a nats over £200! I tried them both through my EBS Neo 212, and have to say it is one hell of a cab. So, as it stands, I think I my offer the HD350 for formal sale, racked up in the EBS carpeted rack box (expensive in itself). It is the version that will drive a 2 ohm load, and is in excellent condition, with no issues at all, 100% fully functional etc etc. I want £400. based in Nottingham. Worth every penny, given its condition and the rack case. I will trade for a GK MB500, with perhaps a tad of cash to me. Chris

Gallien Krueger MB 200 - can't believe how good it sounds

Think it needs 4 ohms really though, to be actually loud. In my garage it was MASSIVE. I have not actually gigged it myself yet, but it was used on a gig when I was on guitar, and the bassists LKM exploded. I pulled it out of my gig bag (much to everyones piss taking at actually having a bass amp with me at all lol), and it sounded great. I shall be using it on my forthcoming gigs. -

Good score that man. The low end is WEIGHTY. You will sound just like John Taylor ;-) -
Just been doing a bit of rig testing, and blow me, this little head is ACE. Big, deep, clear and loud, into me EBS neo 212, awesome. I prefer it to my HD350 - which is only a tad louder, and obviously sounds ace, but not as pillow-like and comfortable as the GK. Has anyone compared it with the more powerful MB500? Does the 500 sound as good as this little monster? Also, what do folk think to the MBE cabs - specifically the 4 ohm ones (2*12 and 1*15 and 4*10). I might have accidentally stumbled upon THE SOUND for me. The fundamental produced by the MB200 is one of the nicest and clearest I have ever heard....lol haha and I've had a few rigs, as you will note in that "first rig" thread... As per my "other" tentative thread about my EBS gear, I am tempted to ditch the HD350, possibly the cab, and go all GK. What say you, wise people? Chris

MarkBass Classic 610 - £400 *BACK FOR SALE*

EDIT - SEE LAST POST - HEAD FOR SALE OR TRADE> UNDECIDED ABOUT CAB> Hi Got a HD 350 (in the EBS case) and a NEO 212 cab. I think it is great gear, and I really like it a lot. The only thing that niggles at me is that it is a lot more "hifi" than I am used to, which can be a good thing. However, much as I love it, I am not "in" love with it. More than happy to keep it, but I thought I would gauge on here if there would be any interest in any of it. If so, I might be persuaded to get rid and go for something a little "warmer" sounding..... If it came to it, I would be looking at something like £800 for the pair, or £400 each ish....... possible trades.... Chris

I could be up for being Roger if it comes off. Look Nowt like him tho, but the playing-not a prob. Nottingham so not too far.

Forgot about a mb 410 too! Rigs I most enjoyed - lm2 into mb410 with sans amp Bddi. First one hartke into mini cabs. Current EBS good, but devastatingly aggressive compared to the others.
-
Well.... Hartke ha3500 into ashdown mini15 and mini48. Once I upgraded the pre valve it was very nice indeed. Was then tempted to change, for the sake of it really. Got an early heavy silver markbass ta501. Really nice amp, before they went all lightweight. This went into 2 markbass std 102hf cabs, then later a 102 and 115hf Then got a lm2 into same cabs. Then down sized to mb 112p combo and one 210hf. Then got another lm2. And 2 111gs aggys. The sold that and got a mb 210 combo. Then sold that and got mbf1 used into a Tecamp 210. Then ashdown abm500 into abm410. Then tried barefaced with the ashdown. Finally we arrive at my current rig - EBS hd350 into EBS neo212, with gk mb200 as backup and for smaller gigs. Looking at that I'm a bir ashamed. There was no need for all that.

http://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_115mbe_2004.htm one of these. I really like my GK MB200, and to be honest for most gigs it is enough as I have PA support always. I actually kind of prefer it to my EBS HD350. So I am pondering about getting this matching cab. Anyone used one? 4 ohms, so gets the full 200W. Thoughts? Chris

Top chap. Sold him a P bass, deal took less than 24 hrs start to finish. Deal with confidence. Chris

I heard it this morning. Sounds massive. Shep has the worlds heaviest (weight wise) pedal board.

Hey all, Got a nice SR4, dates from 2004 or 2001, I forget which. You can see it in my avatar, and I will glady do more pictures if there is interest. It is just what a SR4 should be - I have actually owned it twice, having sold it and bought it back, but i am wondering if I don't simply want something different - a change. So, I am offering a feeler up - £750 for a sale, or what might you trade for it - Precision, Jazz, G&L, Status? Not sure really, but I have a hankering for that "one"bass that will stop me looking around. Cheers Chris

haha. Fingers crossed. Shame you can't just borrow another power amp. Could Nottingham PA lend you one quickly - they are just downstairs from you.
But disconnecting the ground is potentially dangerous...
I could be wrong, but I don't think that disconnection of the ground on an XLR is dangerous - otherwise why would all DI boxes / DI outputs etc allow this. Don't confuse this with disconnecting the ground on a mains lead - this IS dangerous, since if there is a fault and there is no earth on a piece of equipment (which would be the case if the lead had no earth), the metal case would become live. So, try it - as long as it is a signal lead and not mains, you will be fine.
always gig with a back up
This

Maybe. And I don't quite know how earth loops work but the frequency of the hum is mains related. Is there a ground lift switch on any of the gear. I have a similar issue in my studio where my Roland drums him unless I lift the ground on the di box I use.

Try a new power lead to the amp.
