Sad admission - losing sleep, obsessed with gear !
nottswarwick replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
Yes. I have gone through some gear in the past few years, and literally just an hour ago have come full circle and back "home" to Markbass separates. I now have a LM3 into two traveler 102p cabs, following sales and picked these up locally from a guy I know. Having tried loads of stuff (EBS, Ashdown, Genz, Vanderkley, GK...I think that is all lol) I have concluded that nothing to me sounds as good as the Markbass stuff, to my ears anyway. Only thing I might add is a BDDI, and again, I have had one before, and sold it thinking that it would help, but I remember how it sounded....ace. Still, it has been fun, and not too ruinously expensive as a lot of this was done with used gear. But now I am done. -

I think it looks ace. I reckon there will be a more powerful one in the pipeline. Can't see why there wouldn't be. Having said that, with 2 8ohm cabs it is still 300watts, which would do me

U2 bass lines - is that all there is?
nottswarwick replied to lowdowner's topic in General Discussion
I really like him. In taste 80's I was learning guitar and was learning Edge's parts to War and Under A Blood Red Sky (best live DVD ever by the way, IMO obv..), but only later when I took up bass, did I start to appreciate what the Clayton does for the band. Plus he is super cool. -
Now then, feeler. This is the version with the LM2 head in, not the newer LM3, but is none the worse for it. Very good condition bar some fraying of the rubber on the handle (but the metal under is fine). All perfectly working, flawless in operation. Great sound. Mega portable. Want to go back to modular head and cab solution possibly. So will trade for a head (What you got? Markbass, genz not streamliner, ebs, Aguilar....) or cab or head and cab with cash from me. Must be mint and not too old. Hit me. Oh, I will do pics tomorrow. Edit, forgot price. I reckon £450 Ono, Nottingham.

Yamaha BB2024MX - Is mine the only one?
nottswarwick replied to GreeneKing's topic in General Discussion
Why can't I afford one of these. I'd love a 2025x. Btw, I watched ed bass whisperers review and he goes on about a noisy humming bridge pup. Is this an issue? -
Ive found the more ive used picks the less they slip. I think there must be something in the technique that develops naturally as it doesnt really happen anymore
This. The harder you grip the more it slips for some reason. I go for medium tortex, green ones. Loose grip, relaxed wrist, let it flow....

You know when you record etc, where and how do you back up the files when on the iPad? I use my MacBook normally and do time machine backups, but how do you back up from the iPad? Or indeed use garage band on the iPad and then save the files somewhere to use with logic on the mac at a later date?
Yes, but there is still the "fact" that the bass took eight months to arrive when he was quoted four, and that comminications with the store seemed to be woefully inadequate. I think these factors were kind of forgotten when all the other stuff kicked off.
Fair enough.
I reckon someone's already nailed it in the partner thread to this one. I'd never seen a compensated nut up close like that, so I reckon MM20 assumed the step on the G was broken & told it wasn't. The "blemish" polished out, so there was a whole lot of egg looking for a face to occupy. Just a theory.
^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^ So, a broken case. Easily remedied.

I noticed the cheaper FSR one. What does that mean? Are the the same as the normal American Specials?

Perfectly possible. I have done a couple of gigs for a band as a dep like this. Everyone had in ear monitors with tier own mix. I used my own earphones. I found it fine, as I use custom earplugs so am used to having that slightly underwater feeling of my own voice, and to be honest it was great. The other guitarists used pods into the PA, and the keys were straight in, so the only acoustic sound on stage was the drums, which were miked into the PA. Once everyone's mix is set, it is really plug and play. There was a FOH engineer though. I think it might by tricky to mix the FOH sound yourself with in ears in. I reckon he best compromise is a small combo and PA support, if you operate the PA yourselves. I use a markbass mini cmd121p, guitar one uses a lanes cub 10watt valve amp, guitar 2 a koch50 watts amp but quietly, and guitar lead a fender hots rod, but again, quietly. Our drummer is nice, not too loud, and we have two great 750 watt monitors, so we have a wicked on stage sound, and the PA does all the work. Sorry to ramble, waiting for my chicken to roast lol
