1. Hey Just thought I would upload some sound samples of my MTD Kingston KZ4, which I have modded with a full Bart pickup and Preamp install. Straight into Logic, no effects or treatment. Bit sloppy at times, but it shows the range of sounds from this beast. Cheers Chris
2. Here are a couple of quick pics I already have. Can do more later. The close up shows the upgraded pups. Obviously you can't see the bart pre. It is the one with the 3 band eq, pull vol to go passive, and pull the mid to alter the mid freq. Awesome.
3. Yeah, it's ok for me, but definitely alot slower than any other site I use. I feel for the guys behind the site, as it seems to be a bit of a head scratcher. So, pages do take longer to load than any other site, but for me at least it is useable. Macbook Pro, Safari, Virgin Media Cable. In case that helps. Maybe everyone with problems could post up exactly what hardware and software and ISP etc they are using - might narrow it down??
4.
Trade value and pics please
Yeh, pics will follow. Need to getup first lol. Price, stock they are £750 - it is one of these, but a different colour. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/MTD_KZ_4_Cherry.html I have upgraded it with the full Bartolini Pickups and pre amp, cost of £355 to me. So I think the sale/trade value is about £750 ish. It's really good, but I miss the Stingray soooo much.
5. Potentially looking to trade this excellent machine for a Stingray. I have owner from new, and have recently had US Bart pickups and the US Bart preamp professionally installed. It is now superb in every way, a proper pro-spec bass, beautifully built and superb to play. Only thing is, I am missing my stingray badly, so if anyone fancied a trade, please get in touch. 4 or 5 string. Chris
6.
How much power are we talking? Would 250W be enough for an 8 ohm cab?
Depends who's 200w. I think Alex BF recommends more for his Compact. I have used a Compact with 300w into it and it was OK, but not massively loud. Enough, but that was all. It's a matter of compromises. Inevitably, smaller cabs with fewer drivers will lose something when it comes to spread of sound. Maybe a Compact or Midget with a more powerful head? I have read that the Midget cuts better and is great as a stage monitor, when backed up with PA support. This would be my choice with a powerful micro head and PA support. Job done.
7.
At risk of sounding like a stuck record, the GK MB200 is ace. 200w at 4 ohms, but a bloody loud 200w. I mean, properly loud, almost on a par with my ABM 500, and Streamliner 600, in the real world. Very small and light - fits in my gig bag pocket as a spare head. Needs a 4 ohm cab though. But cannot recommend it enough.
I would think 2 cabs would be a lighter solution than one, assuming you have transport. I have used my MB200 with - EBS Neo 212 4 ohm - ace, EBS Neo 115 4 ohm - ace, 2 of Vanderkely 8 ohm 112 cabs, ace. Get the idea. It totally rocks for it's total lack of size and weight. I think the cab solution will be a greater headache. FWIW I always DI - keep stage vol down a bit, and spread the bass aroudn the room

9.
You should have a look at this - http://www.ashdownmu...tion=abm&ID=265 Same size as ABM 500 and same pre but with loads of power and less weight, I was talking to Mark Gooday about it recently and he said frankly that it scared him the first time he tested it, 1000 watts true RMS 2000 peak! Seriously thinking long term one of these should replace my Klystron...
Is it a class D PSU? if so, I am not so sure - my ABM 500 is old school heavy tech, and the lightweight PSU might not offer the same sound and feel..
10.
Re the Markbass, well although I`m a relatively new user/owner, I based my purchase on having heard and liked how they sound from hearing other bassists using them. So it really is horses for courses, as I love the sound that they make in the mix, as an audience member (and am more than pleased with the sound on-stage as well when using my new set-up.
Yes, to clarify my thoughts, I would happily use them again. Good good gear. \in fact I missed out a Std 410 HF that I used for a year or so - one of the finest cabs I have ever used.
11. So, here we are from last night then. You will notice that the input was set to passive, and all the EQ is set flat. Pre shape scoop filter not engaged (button set "push to flat". Used the valve drive on some songs, and the sub on a couple of numbers too. Sounds wicked. Massive and fat and warm and thumpy. Bass is a modded MTD Kingston KZ4 - with USA barts and the US Bart preamp. You will also notice that the volume is on half way. And to be fair, it was loud but not THAT loud. Pushing much beyond this had little effect. Plenty loud enough though, but not as massive as you might expect (4 ohm load so all the power). Certainly, into an 8 ohm ashdown 4 by 10 it was no quieter. And as an aside, my little GK MB200 (200w into 4 ohms) is about as loud. Big stage though, and I could hear myself just fine. I am pondering looking for an ABM 900, although I don't think you can bridge them. Anyway, all is good. If my cabs sell, I will get an ABM 410. And maybe a 210 to go on top. That should do it.
12. Last night's rig.
13. To be honest, although I love my cabs, I always have PA support, and I am generally the only person who can actually tell the difference.
14. I'll have a go. Rig one - Hartke HA3500, into Ashdown Mini 48 and Mini 15. Actually really really nice. HOwever, Markbass called... Rig two - old style MArkbass TA503 - heavy silver one, and two double ported markbass Satdard 102HF. Very nice, really nice. Also has a 15 Markbass cab too, also good. But I would echo the above re projection. Still really like Markbass gear though. Rig 3 - littlemark head into Aggy GS112 cabs - terrible cabs - fart out way too early imho. Rig - F1 into Tecamp 210 - nice, light and clear. BF rigs - Compact Trial, and S12t trial - nice nice cabs, but not for me. EBS - HD350, Neo 212 and Neo 15 - nice, but fiercely aggressive sounding. Also had an Ashdown ABM 410 - heavy but excellent. If I sell my cabs, I will get one of these, and be quids in. Now using two Vanderkley EXT112 cabs - very pleasant indeed. I am trying to sell them though (or downtrade) - financial reasons, but I would say they are the finest cabs I have owned. My Ashdown heads sounds excellent, really full and thumpy, and if I can find a way to keep them, I will.
15. Is it jsut that the MB cones are bright yellow, and thus you can really see them moving? I think this is what is happening, as I have driven some Markbass cabs close to the limit, and never had an issue, farting etc. I just think you can see it more than other cabs

17. UP. Used last night again, great sound.
18. Using my ABM500 again tonight. Vanderkley 112 times 2, Bart equipped MTD, Bit of drive, sounds as warm and nice as anything.

20. Pantherairsoft on here. Nickname shep, effects guru.
21. Of these.... Same construction and wood as my high end 812w and at £80 someone needs to buy this.
22. Paging shep, paging shep.
23.
Because he wants to?
Obviously. Just wondered.... since he has all the tools at his disposal. Carry on.
