1. D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewounds do well on my Fender Am. Std.'s. The Jazzes, Fretted, Fretless, and Precision. (long scale) (.50, .65, .85, .105)
2. Congrats! Very nice. The Olympic White makes it.
3. The pups are monsters on this SG Std. I used the same setting on the amp, that I use for the T-Bird, and Ray34CAFL. The volume was a lot louder on the SG Std. The basses volume was set on 2.5. I rest the SG Std.'s volume to 2, and that was more reasonable.
4. I'm using D'Addario ETB92M Nylons. I found the Medium Scale fit the SG Std. better than Short Scale, by putting the silks above the nut, and not to high to into the tuning peg.
5.
Cost effective EB 3 point bridge. I am thinking of BBOT that engages with the existing 3 posts. Thickness of metal would ensure snug fit in current posts. After that I would go for regular barrel type saddles. (Think Fender bridge on stilts). There would be sufficient length aft of the bridge to eradicate the winding on saddle issue. Material - stainless steel?
The Babicz bridge is aluminum.
6. I was doing ok with a Jazz, and a Precision until I played a 2015 Gibson Thunderbird with the EB style pups, and mini-toggles. The Fenders are gone.
7. I been using 10's, and 12's, but I just got into the Hartke HD150 Combo. The 15" speaker really won me back to a 15" again.
8. Some basses don't sound that great heard solo. When they mix with other instruments the sound is there.
9. I prefer the SG Std. But if it's not you choice, the Fender Pawn Shop Mustang is a good choice.
10.
Nice and nice pics. I also use a Tri- Pod stand for my Gibson 1991 Thunderbird. IMO, The Tri-Pod stand is the only way to go with Tbirds. Blue
Good looking T-Bird you've got there. The Hercules stand works well for my couple of Axes. It sure is a good shape for The T-Bird, that's for sure.
11.
Great looking bass....probably my favourite body shape. So tempting and i'm hoping to pick up a new instrument soon Decisions decisions
I'm glad to see other players going through "Decisions decisions" too, on the other side of the big pond. What a pain it is.
12.
Well that's nice. I'm currently suffering a bit of T-Bird GAS...
Thanks, my SG Std. got me into trying the T-Bird. That sealed it for me on the T-Bird.
13. Very nice, I just acquired a Thunderbird myself.
14. I just acquired this Gibson Thunderbird. It plays great!
15.
The usual wide grippy strap sorts the neck dive on mine. My forearm also seems to locate the bass against my body which also minimises any neck dive. The lightness and short scale make them a great thing to play imo.
Same here on the strap. I play more to the side, somewhat off of the right hip. It does play great.
16.
Stunning! Does it neck dive much? What kind of finish is it - nitro?
Thanks, It's Nitro. It has a bit of neck dive, but it's controllable. While playing it, the neck dive isn't noticeable.
17.
Hello gsgbass, Thank you for posting such good pic's. This is the one bass that I would like to own. I'm thinking maybe I should sell my other 3 and just buy one of these. As a firm flatwound convert I'm particularly interested in the choice of strings and should you care to give a detailed review I would be most grateful. Enjoy. Regards, Chris
Thanks Chris. I use the D'Addario ETB92M Nylon Tapewounds. D'Addario flats are also very good on the SG Std. I like the Gibson SG Std. feel for a short scale bass. The 12" radius fretboard is very comfortable to play on. The pups are great!
18.
Awesome looking bass, congrats John
Thanks John. It does have nice grain running through it. Everybody get's lucky sometimes Ya' know.
19. I picked up this 2015 Gibson SG Std. the other day. It plays great. The Babicz bridge is good, and I like the Pearl inlays also. The new output jack on it, holds the cord's input jack very snug in place, a good positive connection. The control cover plate is stainless steel infused polycarbonate, for electrostatic discharge protection.
20. I just played an SG Std. with the new bridge onboard. It's great. Very good sustain, and solid on the tail.
21. If you get a chance to try one of the Hartke HD Series Combos, you may like what you hear. I'm glad I'm using the HD150.
22.
That's gorgeous. Looking at the MIM Arctic white colour - does it look as classy as the Olly white (paired with tort pickguard and maple neck)?
I like the Arctic White. I wish it was available with an Am. Std. Bass. The Arctic white I think, looks great with a Maple board. I would think the Tort would be fine, I just really like the White Pearl better.
23.
Really? The triangular inlays and chequer binding are two of the things that make Rickenbacker basses stand out visually for me. Without them, they are a bit bland really.
Yes Sir, totally agree with you.
24.
Same here, I love mine, it is just a proper bit of kit and one I dont mind using in anger, I hope in years to come it will tell a tale of my gigging life. I can see my Jazz as a keeper, 5 strings, 3tsb, tort and well made, it would lose a lot if I sold it and I would only want another later as it fits the bill in every band situation so I can see other basses rotating around the Jazz. Classic US made bass with a Spaghetti Fender logo, what is not to like?
Very well stated Sir.
25. I just paired up a HA5500 head with a VX410 cab. Great sounds.
