1. At that price it's worth having even if it just lives in the bits and bobs bag as a back up for your amp.
2. Another satisfied customer! MXR Envelope filter arrived from Hungary well packaged and super quick time. Good bloke, totally trustworthy.
3. It does sound great in the mix though. Joe Osborne and Carol Kaye made a career out of that dead/muted flats and pick sound.
4. Does anyone know if he laid down the vocal at the same time? Even if they were recorded separately he must have done both live - my head hurts just thinking about it!
5. It depends. There is a fair bit of tolerance in terms of 'can I set this bass up and make it work well'. Maybe not so much tolerance in terms of the fact you have paid the thick end of 2k for something which is meant to be well built, largely by hand, and to exacting specs. I'm a fender player so am not slagging them off, but there has always been a complacency issue due to their cosy position in the marketplace. Slack twats.
6.
IMO Penguin have damaged their integrity by publishing this as a "classic". Or are good sports going along with the joke, I can't decide which.
A bit of both probably mate!
7. I count myself as a Mozza fan, but launching this in penguin classics has all the hallmarks of a man who has his head firmly up his own behind. I'm looking forward to picking it up in a car boot for 50p in a few weeks and reading it then.
8. My theory knowledge is pretty sound, but I'm always in awe when I hear a great 'ear' player. There seem to be a lot of players who read well, and a lot who play well by ear, but the guys who do both truly well are rare. It seems there are a lot of jazz or ear players who are a bit daunted by sheet music, and and many good readers who live in dread of turning up for a gig where there is no book or chart and just being told to listen. I also think just as it's said a blind persons hearing gets more acute, a non reader/busker (generally) has good ear to finger skills on the bass. Readers might be able to do some pretty complex things at sight but are often trapped by reading and formal musical training into turning off the inner ear to an extent, holding onto the chart like a non-swimmer holds onto the side of the pool. The best musicians are of course the rare ones that are just as happy reading as they are using their ears (clever bastards!).
9. I honestly don't see the point. Surely the whole point of a gig-bag is it's more portable than a hard case. If you want a case that you can only carry short distances then you may as well use a hard case for the extra protection. I don't expect the same protection in a gig-bag, but I do expect it to be a practical alternative to a hard case that makes it easier to lug a bass around on foot, bike, public transport. It's a shame because the Mono cases look great, but if they are so heavily/well built that they are no lighter than a hiscox then they have only succeeded in making an expensive case with maybe less protection - not a 'gig-bag'.
10. I take it then that the Mono case that takes two basses is probably a disaster in the comfort department? - a shame if so, as it looks like a great bit of kit.
11. I'd be really interested to hear more about the 760fx set once they bed in mate. I'm a TI user, but have always wondered if this set could give me the labella sound with the TI feel - let us know how you go on.
12. Are the expensive (£369) ones without visible truss nut access at the headstock end AVRI (or the new AV series) necks?
13.
TI Flats are the lowest tension strings I've used period. Just not to my tastes. I don't have as much of an issue roundwounds being lower tension, in some cases I prefer it but with flats it seems unnatural. I get why people like the TI's though, they just don't sit with my more traditional taste in flats. Have you tried La Bella 760FL's? Lower tension than the FM's which are incredibly high, sound amazing. Still not great perhaps if you suffer from bad wrists though. Status Hotwires measure about the same too.
760FX's are apparently just about on a par with TI's in terms of guage and tension, but with the labella sound - has anybody tried them and if so what did you think compared to other Labellas or indeed the TI's?
14. I'm sure Dee Murray was mentioned a few pages back but has also gone from the list - is it because he's dead?
15.
Unfortunately neither Strings Direct nor Stringbusters have single TI flats other than the low B & top C & I can't find anywhere else that sells them. What are the La Bella strings like? I need to get ordering them in time for Wednesday's sesh.
I think you'll want the lightest gauge available in the labellas ( think they do heavy medium and light in the Deep Talkin flats). I will confess an ulterior motive here in that I would like the opinion of a TI user that tries the light guage labellas before I waste my own dosh - so let us know how you get on!
16. Great band, all outrageously talented guys despite the tragic headgear. One thing I've never been able to get pat with JK is the whole environmentalist/right-on thing with the Emergency on Planet Earth album followed by using his ethically sourced planet saving album money to amass a large collection of the worlds most gas guzzling supercars. Fairplay to the bloke for his talent and success, but no one likes a Hypocrite.
17. Lot of love here for the 121p. I don't play with particularly loud bands but have done a mix of stuff including outdoor stuff with no walls to bounce of and have not needed any more than it can give so far. Anything bigger would probably be with PA support anyway. Presently gassing for the NY121 just so I can start referring to my combo as a 'rig'!
18. Entertainment budget from the brewery? - maybe just have to spend it and can't be arsed using any imagination.
19. booboo

Sold

Lovely - is that a matching one in 3TS/Tort leaning on the sofa?
20.
Off the top of my head, I'd say a Markbass combo would do everything you need.
For the gig the OP described any of the MB 1x12's should be plenty and within budget 2nd hand.
21.
10% of final value capped at £75. Also a listing fee which varies by starting price and item type. PayPal take 3.4% also Seller gets what's left
I'd rather sell on here for a fw quid less than give ebay/paypal the thick end of 15%
22. What do you reckon the cost is to sell on there now(including paypals slice)? I've only ever bought and I realise this info is freely available on their site, but I'm slightly thick and very lazy so a quick summary would be nice from a seasoned ebayer.
23. Dee Murray on any early Elton John stuff - especially the live album 11-7-70.
24.
i've already got a sh*t car thanks
Just serviced. you could do a lot worse for a roomy runabout, but after seeing the latest pics I would be after the bass plus some cash my way TBH.
25.
Peugeot 307 estate. Admittedly it's a bit like an MPV, but actually has room in the boot All of my stuff fits in the boot (15" combo, lights, various bags/holdalls/cases) and the bass goes in the rear footwell.
Got one of these and they are great with the back seats out, but still think the Citroen Picasso I used to have was a better load carrier - sh*tt*r car though.
