1. I'm strange! I'm still waiting to reclaim my leotard/tights selection from fellow pro bassist Mike `leggy' Brooks! Come on Mike, I miss 'em! Never visited Talkbass but will have to have a look. My only real experience of the States was a typical holiday in Florida some years ago and whilst everyone was awfully polite etc, there was something `missing' - very hard to put into words; nothing sinister but it felt very different. I did visit Bass Central and was basically ignored by most of the staff (except Grasshopper!) who were fawning round some guy who was buying a Fender P - he was a terrible player but he looked minted so they gave me the cold shoulder (must have been the string vest, white socks and sandals!) - had some lovely gear there though! Nick
2. Lovely instrument! I used to work in a shop called `Music Village' whilst still at school back in '87 (I was the Saturday boy!) and we had two Manson basses come in - should have bought one of them, superb construction etc. That was back in the day when I only had four or five basses.....I used to get the pick of anything that came in secondhand (as long as I could afford to pay etc!). Cheers Nick
3. Welcome 4000! I too own a 4001CS (number 475) - if it were me, I'd keep it! Cheers! Nick
4. Nice idea in theory but it would only end in tears! Best thing to do is buy as many as you can and then have your own `collective'. I've really got to stop buying as I'm reaching critical mass, I've got a total of seventy instruments now, 57 basses and 13 guitars. Do I win £5? Nick O

6. I've got JJ's Steinberger bass! Rumour has it that he went down to the original Bass Centre in Wapping after having `punched' and split the greenburst Precision into two separate body halves, trying to find a `bass that would not break'. He tried the Steinberger, liked the way it played etc and asked how strong it was. `Hit it against the wall' - so he tapped it. `No, really whack it....'. JJ swang it like a baseball bat and it took a chunk out of the wall! I bought it off of Andy Pearson, the bassist with The Beat. Great bass, great for cricket practice!
7. Oh dear - naughty Russtone....look who they actually copied! http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_dragonwing.html http://www.basscentral.com/alembicbass/ltd.shtml
8. Oh dear - just about to buy another Calibas....will be my second one in a week.....aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggghhh - would love a Wal again - just like one I used to own. Mike - I think you've still got my leotard and matching footless tights mate, can we meet up at some stage to well, you know...!
9. I've just gone and bought a 6 string JayDee Calibas bass - going to get back into the extended range (had a Nightingale 6 many years ago but never really got on with it so the time has now come to tame the beast!)
10. Allo Mike! I've grown since the old times - 16 stone now m8! A real heavyweight! ps - nice GB!
11. ..said bass is now part of the Collection! Awesome! 6 strings and more wood than Wickes! Nick
12. Ped! Serial number pour le passion avec graphite - 808 Nick (aka Vig)
13. Kiwi! We have such sights to show yoooooooooooou! Good friend of mine played the character Butterball in the first two films! Incidentally, am going to have a look at the Calibas later today....
14. Oooooh! Lovely Series II there! Being a huge expert (as already noted and very modest too!) your bass has the slimline neck moulding of course with the `narrow' central body graphite spine, which of course does not appear on the rear of the bass! I nearly bought one that year with a birdseye maple front - ah!
15. Great posts guys! Thanks ped for some real porn! That blueburst Arpege....corrr! Ah. Tis mine! Merton - err, nope! Nick (will try to post some pix of me other one)
16. I know a lot about Status basses and being an expert (including being mentioned on the official Status site cos me and Mick C setup the original Yahoo Status club and having demoed Mark King's rosewood Kingbass on Aussie TV one week before he took delivery of it!), that is definitely an Empathy! Reason - front and rear facings! Nick * *modesty is my middle name
17. ..came from a good 'ome y' see! Fosk! Where'd you get the Thumb? Very nice! Its been an interesting week! Mirk (Kang)
18. Welcome Nick! Ahh! H and H - great memories! Takes me back to 1984 when as a mere twiglet of a bassist, I'd regularly borrow a `Bass Machine' 250w head coupled up to the world's biggest cab, a 2 x 15" (felt like 15') Roost! The amp had a built in phaser - sounded fantastic! All the Best! Nick Smith (aka Mirk Kang)
19. Having now become the keeper of this incredible bass, I'd like to thank Adam for his work on it - it really is superb - sounds fantastic! Nice one. Nick O
20. ..meant to say, thanks Fosk, did you manage to get the flitecase in your car? Its a monstercase!
