1. ..came from a good 'ome y' see! Fosk! Where'd you get the Thumb? Very nice! Its been an interesting week! Mirk (Kang)
2. Welcome Nick! Ahh! H and H - great memories! Takes me back to 1984 when as a mere twiglet of a bassist, I'd regularly borrow a `Bass Machine' 250w head coupled up to the world's biggest cab, a 2 x 15" (felt like 15') Roost! The amp had a built in phaser - sounded fantastic! All the Best! Nick Smith (aka Mirk Kang)
3. Having now become the keeper of this incredible bass, I'd like to thank Adam for his work on it - it really is superb - sounds fantastic! Nice one. Nick O
4. ..meant to say, thanks Fosk, did you manage to get the flitecase in your car? Its a monstercase!
5. Awww! Thanks mate! Mirk Kang (me new stage name!)
6. I've known Marcus for many years now and he is one of the very best! We've swapped stuff and everyone's a winner! Many Thanks! Nick O
7. I think this belongs to Roger Innis, a session player from Birmingham: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jay-Dee-Calibas-Twin...tem140249306705 If anyone here buys it, let me know and I will be your personal shreve (sp) until the end of time! Again, why is it that I'm always skint?!
8. What? The bass or the fact that I'm such a helpful chap!
9.
how the hell do you fit a new thru neck on? without splitting the thing apart.
Jaydees are not thru necked instruments, they are glued into a pocket in the body. They look like they are through necked but John has only ever built one such bass!
10. Allo! Its a GA24 model (read George Anderson Junior - Shakatak's superb bassist) - the bass would have been completely refinished when the neck was replaced. I'd buy it at that price but have very limited funds right now! Quite unusual looking - quite like the headstock.
11. Adam is a great chap - just did a deal with him tonight - all is well! (swappage of Warmoth and Tokai for Vigier Passion). Cheers! Nick
12. It looks like the body has been either resprayed or rubbed down; its hard to tell. Yuck! The necks were made from maple (and were indeed painted black) but did have an `ebonite' (phenolic) fingerboard.
13. Hi Fosk! I've left you two messages on yer mobile - assuming you are on that number I had!! Got a luverly Vigier....!
14. This looks very dodgy - Washburn Status being touted as a real one... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Status-Fretless-4-St...tem190236776454 Giveaway features are the truss rod cover and the logo on the bridge plate. Hmmm.
15. Fosk! Didja get me message? Have something that may be of interest - will try you later! Nick
16. Dave Angel, eco warrior on bass... Drummer looks like me when I was young, good looking fella!
17. OK! I'm f*cking minted, AND much more cleverer than you! Mwahahaha!
18. Agreed! A real `working' instrument.
19. Question! Whats orange and would look great on this bass? FIRE!!!!!! I've got a Wilkes half fretted/less which is fretless on the D and G strings - great idea but needs some work (fret tangs can be felt on the fretless area)
20. Great bass! One of my fave `demo' basses as a young lad back in the old days! Drop that midrange for instant `Miller'! Nick
21. Elites! Status hotwires are v. good but Elites last longer for me!
22. Doh! Ste beat me to it! Have tried a P bass with said switch - just tends to thin the sound out!
23. Buy all of 'em! Ask the know it all down the pub, he will I'm sure wax lyrically about what you should/should not do! The S-1 switch lets you change between parallel, series combinations I think! Normally, one of the vol knobs has a switch built into the top of it, you press it in etc
24. Alo! Took a day off from my hectic schedule today and took a trip down to deepest Essex, one to visit Mike Walsh at Zoot and then down to the brand new Bass Merchant showroom in Colchester! What can I say - truly impressed! Darren and Chris made me more than welcome, loads of great gear (am buying a Zoot cab once I've sorted me tax out!) and loads of bass-related stories and anecdotes! And a coffee machine that dispenses Mars hot chocolate!!! Well worth a visit; take an afternoon off and go down there; I think they are going to do really well - best showroom I've seen for many years. Cheers! Nick
