1. Hi Bigwan! You know, when the Bongo was first unveiled, I thought it was one of the worst looking basses ever - however, being a good mate of Andy at Strings and Things meant that I got chance to spend some time with one and after that, my views changed completely - a superb bass and again, one on my list of wantees! I've also grown to like the shape - very comfortable to play. Great days! Nick
2. We've all gone `porn-crazy'! Love those Cutlasses (sp). I had a black Cutlass II some years ago - very 'eavy!! Nice one Steve.
3. Allo again Dave!!! Cross-forum pollination eh?! Your custom is just...well, wheres me Kleenex (meant in the nicest poss. way!!). Nice to know I had a tiny bit of influence on the headstock!! Ah! Just noticed the double LEDs in the inlay at fret 24!! Very tasty! Should be getting the refurbished Neptune bass back anytime soon - can't wait! Nick
4. Thanks again Rich! I can't recall the serial # of the red tint bass, but I think it must have been an '88/'89 model as you note. The ebony board bass is superb - if I'd got the money I'd buy it back; it used to be my main bass! And I know where she is!!!
5. Make your feelings known - if there's no improvement in the situation after a given time period, say `thanks guys, goodbye'. No point spending money on rehearsing (or in this case not) with guys who show no prospect of getting on with it etc. As noted, start working with people who are up for it; been there many times! Nick
6. Welcome to the Lodge! Worshipful Master Smith 33rd Degree JayDee Nut
7. Cheers Rich!!! Many thanks for the uploads - appreciate it! That red tinted Series II was bought down at Mansons in Exeter many years ago. I had it for around a year or so and then did a straight swap with a great guy from London called Mike Foster for the ice blue 2000 - he then moved to Thailand and sold off his collection, he had some lovely pieces, Sadowskys, and a lovely Pedulla Buzz as I recall. The red tint bass went down to the Gallery and then, I believe, it went to Portugal. Anyone remember `Curiosity Killed The Cat' - their bassist had one exactly the same.
8. Loving those longer horns! First Vig I ever played was a very early graphite necked Passion in white - standard controls but that was it, in love! Nice one guys! doctor_of_the_bass
9. Marcus! Best thing to do is be you - I used to have my hair cut like Mark's when I was young cos I thought he was cool and of course, wanted to be able to play like that! My hair is now almost gone, but my playing has evolved beyond just being a cookie cutter cutout of Mark - granted, he was a big influence on many of us but take elements of him and many others and eventually, you will be you - as a teenager I was perhaps a little blinkered but as you get older (and fatter and balder!) you realise that the person you want to be is you, no-one else! Thats what its about - people will call you for gigs because you are a versatile player who can play many different styles of music etc! ....now, wheres my toupee?!
10. Some more pornos! Here's the superb `Starchild' replica, built for Thom Boyle: ..and a close-up of the fretboard: A five-string `Celeste' model - aimed at the `StingRay' players! A left-handed `Calibas' model - I've recently picked up a 6 string version: A very unusual Series III model `Roadie IIA' bass, owned by John Moes: A `Roadie IIA' model - Series II shape: A similar bass, this time, the `Roadie IA' model, again a Series II shape: And another `Mark King' model, Series II - this time with the funk groove!
11. If you're a nut, I'm a coconut! Here's Basschat's most nutty nut with the famous Red Classic, ex-Mark King - bought in '99: Here's Morgan Roussell and myself in his flat in Paris with our famous JayDees! My Classic Series I - currently with John being refinished/modded: Not one of mine but lovely example of a Series I Classic in pearl pink - from the Netherlands: Another from the net, this time a Series III `Mark King' model in pearl blue: This time, a Series II in pink, you can now compare the relative differences in body size/shape! For you fellow Jaydee buffs, this is unusual in that it does not have the `funk groove' which was normally a standard feature on this series! Compare the shape of those above to this stunning `GA 24 - George Anderson Junior Model' again in pink (sounds like a fashion show eh!?): will post some more laters! Ciao! Nick
12. Here's the older thread! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=20981 hehe! N
13. Always the way for me! Tasty bass and no money!!!! Waaaa! Rant over! Continue! Nick
14. Son! The only person you need to be better than is ....you! I'm old mate, past it etc One day you may have many basses, till then, I'm still the boss! Hehe! Seriously, Marcus exhibits a maturity in his playing and is a good egg!
15. Haha! Its back on again - was originally up for sale around a month or two ago!
16. There's one still for sale round 'ere somewhere! A nice, cool blue one...! Rich (Out To Play) - did you get my PM!? Nick
17. Did a wedding gig with our `Jazz' lineup down near Stanstead Airport in a most charming barn venue - known as the `Pledgdon' barn, just outside Henham. Got there, quick setup, two 45 minute sets, some tasty nosh, home in Peterborough just before midnight. Nice! Used my Dean Pace EUB through my Littlemark head and 4 x 10" - normally would have used the combo but felt like a change!
18. Happy birthday (for September!) I'm 38 in December!! Waaaa! I'd go the Alembic way - picked a beaut up last year, 20th Anniversary model - burr walnut! Cheers!
19. Luke! If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times, its my handbag! Get your own! Hmmmppph.
20. Luke I thought you'd played it at the Bash when I had it? Nick
21. You've got too many basses? ...I've got too many basses! Wanna buy me Status?
22. Never really bothers me, the logo on the body! Funnily enough, my Passion bass has the logo under the orange sunburst finish so in certain angles, it almost disappears as it turns gold! People come up at gigs (as mentioned in another thread) and always pronounce it wrongly! Not their fault. Just a lack of bassness!
