1.
If I'm reading the bidding history correctly, then the winning bidder put their bid in one second before the end of the auction. That really doesn't sound like the action of a shiller. Or am I missing something?
A shiller can use this technique to push up your bid towards your maximum bid. Doing this at the last minute can eek a few extra quid for your buddy.
Surely though if you shill and get caught out you're better canceling via mutual agreement rather than keeping up the pretense and paying Ebay fees on the selling price. Or am i missing something?
True, but we assume that these guys are smart, or haven't done this repeatedly in the past.
2.
Well, thats me sorted for those long rainy days in my caravan in Skegness!!
Besta luck with it. I'm sure you'll find some parts of the kit that need "upgrading"... hope the wallet's up to the bashing!
everything pre-drilled and solderless? it's hardly "expressing yourself by building your own bass" is it, a bit like the Wright brothers playing with Airfix kits. It looks like all you're doing is building someone else's bass....
No it's not, but it's a bl**dy good place to start. Getting used to the techniques and technical requirements before introducing self-expression is key to learning successfully (a bit like playing).
3. He left positive feedback for the buyer on 19th July... tends to indicate that the guy didn't back out. Of course, he could have 2 identical cabinets... and values the second somewhat above the price of the first It stinks.
4. Our young'un (11 y.o.) plays a full size Yamaha and gets on fine with full scale.... I think weight is a serious concern though.
5. Chris is a great guy to deal with... fantastic Sims neck that he's sold to me - a real top Basschatter! Many thanks mate John
6. Fantastic job. It's a unique piece, and I bet it sounds the biz. Thanks for sharing.
7. Alex is a top guy to deal with - two fantastic cabs. Thanks mate!
8.
Mine came with phosphor bronze strings - in the hot weather they can turn your sweat green, which came as a bit of a surprise.
Jeepers!!!!! That's really suffering for your art! I've tried nickel roundwounds, D'Addario Chromes, and ended back on phosphor bronze again. I'd like to give the plastic coated a shot, though.
9. Just love the clothes - looks like he plays with Murph & The Magitones
10. Totally agree that it's a waste of time posting this way on "The Bay". The assumption that it's hot, and that the seller hasn't got a clue what they're offloading is probably right. Here's one that caught my eye earlier.... BC Rich I don't claim to be an expert of BC Rich guitars, but could anyone tell what it is FFS?!?!?!
11. Wow, amazing. Definitely something to inspire. Thank-you for posting
12. Good luck with trying it out. It didn't work for me. I have a Hipshot Drop D on my Jazz, and play 5 string - no problems with either. I tried to do the BEAD thing on a 34" and really found it difficult to work with. The bass was okay to play (but not great). I just couldn't get my head around having a B on a 4 string, and I won't go there again! It makes no sense, there is no reason... it just felt sooo wrong.
13. Hootie & The Blowfish Hold My Hand Nice..........
14. Strings And Things will do custom sets of Picato strings. They've done extra long sets in preferred gauges for me before. PM me if you want the contact details.
15. Good luck with the sale. I let one of these go earlier this year on evilbay (black, rather than this lovely wine burst and a couple of dings) but only got £100 for it. Fantastic basses and well worth the money - superb sounds, and the most wonderful rosewood fingerboard. Have a free bump.
16.
Anyone who is a subscriber found the Digital Edition yet? I could not see anything that led me to it.
Got an e-mail from Oyster House Media this week. They're looking to employ someone with web experience... so I assume that explains why it's all so out of date! BGM
17. Possibly he's referring to the laminate floor?!?!?
18.
I can't see what else it'd be for.....
Unless you were going to do a relic job in the tumble dryer.
19.
Surf Green P bass FTW
Looks good. And thanks for the picture.... hadn't realised that the rotating metal and plastic thing in the garden was designed to hold guitar bodies while they were painted!
20.
Can this be recharged, like the BT-1 can?
Hi Lanark, It uses 2 AA batteries. The menu allows you to select alkaline or NiMH. The batteries won't recharge in the unit, and seem to last 15+ hours. I have a 2 sets and carry a spare.
21. Wow, gorgeous. Superb job. Keeping it was definitely the way to go.
22.
Bit of a tart's handbag but better than bl**dy awful upside down Thunderbird-y Warwick monstrosity!
+1 Hated the Warwick thingy...
23.
J bass copy
Well then, the world is your oyster! So many choices, so little time. I'm assuming that the bass is passive??? Might be worth looking at some of the Fender pickups that come up here, or even the dreaded Ebay. Although they're often disgarded by those in search of something better, stock Fender pickups (or even some of the more "exotic" Fender p'ups) are a nice place to start. I've got some Originals in my J copy and they tend to make the appropriate sounds. They can also be found going for a song - sure, there are cooler, more expensive and (even) better items, but on a budget, you could do worse. May be worth giving the electricals a once over and upgrading at the same time too. Have fun.
24. Frightening to see that something only a few days older than me can be seen as "rare" and "highly desirable". The Missus would be pleased to see that the value is increasing, however poorly it compares with newer models. Thanks for the ego boost! Thought I might be getting "past it"
