1. It's a great looking bass Ian. To be honest, I doubt that you'll make any money on it; instrument prices seem rather low at the moment. If you have no particular rush to sell, why don't you hang onto it? You may well do better in a year or two.
 2. Oh wow... a white bass thread! How come I didn't see this before?!?! Here are my offerings: 2009 Fender J Standard MIM in Antique White. Pretty basic, but I think it's pretty in white / white / maple My Bitsa '51 in a white stain and oil finish.

 4. It's black! Very black! Love it. Can't believe you got past 2:01am without plugging it in. You're clearly the very definition of a "good neighbour".
 5. Any ideas about this one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Jazz-bass-guitar-/220927869593?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item337053c299 I don't think he's trying to mislead - there are too many question marks. Is it worth £100?
 6. I've Songsterr Plus. IPad is a handy place to keep it - more portable than my desktop!
 7.
Hmmm, the old "do vintage instruments sound better" thing. Well for me, my 77 sounds different to my 97, which in turn sounded different to the two 2006 models I had, which both sounded different to each other. I favour the 77 for live work as I simply love the mojo of old knackered Fenders (though mine isn`t too beat up). When I saw it advertised I just loved the look of it, so bought it. It plays great, and sounds great. But do I prefer the sound of it? Well whichever one I`m playing, I set up the same sound from the amp, so the answer is probably not. I prefer it for how it looks, as both of mine play the same.
I think that just about sums it up. I'd hate it if the bass world took a similar direction to the violin fraternity - a place where "new" is rubbish and valueless, and where the instrument you play can gain you notoriety...
 8. Sign me up to... any help needed, let me know. ( I make a mean muffin, and can bring coffee making equipment)...
 9.
DON'T DO THAT WITH A BATTERY - ITS DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY MORE SO WITH A LONG LIFE BATTERY LIKE DURACELL. This has been known to kill.
Dave, C'mon... it works wonders with a drummer who's a little off the pace... and I'd always be happy to take the risk.
 10.
Yeah i saw that. On 3 Jazz basses that i have the strings are:

closer to the PuPs
run between the poles and not beside them
B
Interesting comment. Looking at the picture from the bridge, alignment seems to be over the pole pieces for the neck, but the string spacing seems a little wide for the bridge p'up... The bridge p'up is supposed to be wider than the neck to counteract this effect...
 11. Just out of interest, what do people use under their p'ups? Personally, I prefer foam (I usually get the Fender ones) as I tend to anchor me thum on the p'up, and have had problems with spring movement in the past. I've always associated the silicone tube with low end gear, but can't profess to've ever given it a go. I assume everybody uses something?!?
 12.
I have a SD Jazz pickup and it looks like that.
I've just rechecked - the Quarter Pounders do have a recess - the Lightnin' Rods (and all other SD active p'ups don't). My apologies for the misleading comment I made an incorrect assumption - the recommended setting is still 1/8" For those who don't have one, Stew Mac do a wonderful thingy for this: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Straightedges/String_Action_Gauge.html?actn=100101&xst=3&xsr=343
 13. Those p'ups - are they Lightnin' Rods? Most Seymour Duncan Jazz p'ups are recommended at 1/8" (in new money, that's 3.1 mm). http://www.seymourduncan.com/images/products/basslines/501035-100.pdf According to The Haynes Manual for Fender Bass, passive Jazz p'ups are supposed to be 2mm on the treble side and 2.8mm on the bass (page 91 for those interested!). Leaving this open to interpretation, 4mm would be a long way away, and 2mm is a close as you want to be - find something that suits in the middle. I'm a little worried that, not only are the p'ups low, but that the poles look inset on the covers. I'm not sure they're supposed to be like that either. Aesthetically it may look the bomb, but it's not ideal...
 14.
If you have to ask then you'll most likely never know.
I ask, because it makes no sense, unless...
The new editor is left-handed - might explain something. . .
In which case, Mr. Cooper is also doing the majority of the reviews, and I can cope with this. My feeling was that the "we review left-handed basses nowadays, aren't we cool and inclusive!" vibe that I got (and this is only my take on things) was a little weird; possibly some explanation may've helped.
Well you see everything went downhill after the June 2011 issue... That's the June 2011 edition if you are looking to get a back issue... And have an interest in SHUKER basses... In the....ahhhhh June issue... This year.. Ummmmm... 2011... I hear the person who did the piece was a pretty cool dude too... ;0)
Dood, We're all up for another article. Sharpen your quill and get going...
 15. Just received Bass Guitar Magazine for December and noticed that it's gone back-to-front and most of the reviews are for left handed basses. I can't really understand why that would be... I mean, why go to the trouble? I'm not sure it does the bass manufacturers any justice - though they still score the same 4 to 4.5 stars. Is this the sort of trite fiddling we're to expect from a new editor who's lacking in real ideas, or just political correctness gone mad!
 16. How about sticking with the 4 and getting a Hipshot detuner thingy?
