6 string basses
How is that measured? From the centre of one string to the next is 17mm?
I think it's usually measured from centre to centre, but Jon, and many others I believe, adjust the spacing a little taking into account the physical string width too, so 17mm spacing is the average rather than the exact spacing. I went for 17mm on my 6 string too, I don't find it all that tight to be honest, I was playing a 5 string Thumb Bass before I got it, which had 16.5 mm spacing, I think, might have even been 16mm, either way, it seemed a lot tighter somehow. Cheers, Eude
  2. That's a beautiful set up you have there mate! I'm a big fan of the Lowend Basses. There's a couple of gorgeous 33" 6 Strings over on Talkbass which have got me GASing a little too hard for comfort. That's awesome you got such a rare model too. Did you straight swap it for the Streamer? Always loved the look of those Fafners to, the whole set up must sound brilliant - congrats! Eude
  3. Sold some Jazz Bass bts to Ou7shined recently. Great guy to deal with, paid right quick and really prompt communication, he must be, much like myself, forever hanging round this basschat thing... Cheers, Eude
  4. Sold some Jazz Bass odds and sods to WarPig recently. Top bloke to deal with, prompt payment and great communication too. Cheers mate, Eude
  5. That design is gorgeous! Such a fluid organic shape. Nice one, Eude
  6.
Well, if it cuts through the mix it doesn't to be tremendously loud But I know what you mean, it may sound confusing, deep, midrangey and bright at the same time What I mean is : not boomy and sterile but still able to provide good lows, with a grunty gritty growly midrange and overall clarity Which 15" are you talking about? What about the Aguilar DB112? Thanks for your replies, keep'em coming!
Hey man, I use an Aguilar GS112 and it rocks! It can be a tiny bit mid shy, but my bass certainly isn't and I dial in a little bit more grunt on the amp and I'm in tone heaven. Plenty of lows, and nice highs thanks to the tweeter, best running the tweeter pretty low though, as there's a lot of headroom on it. Apparently the DB112 addresses the mid problem of the earlier GS models and looks cool as hell to boot, plus they ain't too pricey. I'd have gone with a DB cab if I'd known about them at the time, that said though, I'm very happy with the GS. As far as using the one cab, I've not struggled playing shows up to about 200 folks with a single 1X12, however I play in an acoustic(ish) band and I only have a single guitar to contend with. Two of those bad boys would be awesome though. I strongly recommend giving Aguilar a go. Just my 2p Cheers, Eude

  10.
Yeah, the Kingbasses and Status basses in general have too much of a personal sound, and it isn't what I'm after. My Sei fretted is about perfect for a fretted, I have a really nice acoustic fretless, I just need an electric 6 string fretless and that will be all my needs covered.
Nice one dude. Love the offset flamboyant shape too, it looks awesome with a single pickup too, like 7string's one. It'll compliment your singlecut nicely. What acoustic bass do you have? Eude

  12.
I'm going to be talking to Martin tomorrow about this, and hopefully ordering it, to arrive in 12/14 months time, so that will be a nice Christmas present to myself next year. My basic ideas are as follows - 6 string offset flamboyant, with a 7 piece flame maple/wenge neck and graphite rod inserts. An unlined Ebony board with side dots, I'm thinking of having one dot per fret, with two dots at the 5th, 7th and 9th and three dots at the 12th fret, that's something I need to finalize with Martin. My fretless acoustic bass just has dots at the 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th etc, I don't have a problem with that, but that's a 4 string and a 6 string is a slightly different matter. Walnut body core, my fretted Sei has a walnut core and I get this fantastic deep sound from it. Front and back facings of buckeye burl, I already have this on my fretted, but no two pieces are the same, and I love the stuff. Black hardware, it just looks cool and understated. 18mm string spacing the same as my fretted. The pickups and electronics are something I need to discuss with Martin, I'm think of having a passive bass with just one pickup mounted in the centre of where two pickups would be, with a ramp either side. I have both pickups 'full on' on my fretted 99% of the time, and with the fretless I'm going for a specific sound, I don't need lots of versatility. I'm thinking of a Bartolini pickup, or possibly a Q-tuner. No tone control just a volume. Soundwise I'm thinking Anthony Jackson and Gary Willis, deep but even sounding, I love playing my fretless acoustic, and using my 'playing' to get different sounds, rather than relying on onboard electronics..
Sounds like a very cool spec dude! Is this instead of your Kingbass? Cheers, Eude

  18.
I have my bad photoshop pic (which is charics smudged a bit!) and then Alan yesterday sent a sketch of a shape, which should be the real thing. I'll send you a pm with them when I am at work, as I don't think I should show my rubbish version on here, or I guess the sketch, as it would be good to show it off with a render eventually.
Awesome Sent you a rather long winded PM back. You going for a set neck on this one by the way? This bass is gonna rock! Eude
  19.
Okay, off the top of my head: - ACG Finn Singlecut (bet you've not heard of a singlecut finn before!) Body same widths as before giving the same look, but made of Stripy Ebony/Sycamore/Wenge/Sycamore/Stripy Ebony 34" scale 4 string Flamed sycamore board with ebony binding Neck made from sycamore/wenge/sycamore/ebony/sycamore/wenge/sycamore
Singlecut Finn? You've been listening in on my thoughts again, that's creepy! Any pics of the shape? This is gonna be an awesome bass! Eude
  20. Ooooh.... Very nice dude, can't wait to hear the specs! For the record, I thought your last one was gorgeous, although it might have been a bit heavy. Keep us posted. Cheers, Eude
  21.
If the Jazz body's still available I might be interested.
Hey man, Warpig has first dibs on the body, I need to get some proper pics of it first too, which should happen this weekend. If he doesn't want it though, you're next in line. Hope that's cool... Eude

    RIP Leftysteve

That's really sad. My condolences to all his family and friends.
  23. Awesome dude. Is the wenge doing what it said on the tin? I mean growl-wise by the way... Oh and what body depth did you go for in the end and how's it feel compared to a beefier bass? Cheers dude and congrats! Eude
  24.
Hi Eude, any chance of posting some pics of the body please, mainly any marks, im always interested in a new project. Maybe interested in the pickups too.
Hey man, tried to take some pics of the bass body but not had any joy. I'm not in the flat during day light this week, so I can't get any decent photos, not enough light to shoot without a flash and if you do you just get glare back from the gloss black finish. I've given it a good once over and there's very minimal damage to the front at all, bar a few very light scratches and a tiny ding near the bottom strap button. There's some bigger scratches on the back, but none are through the paint. I'll try and get some photos out door over the weekend, if that's cool. Run into a slight problem though, you may have noticed I've stated the screws from the neck plate is knackered, well, I've managed to get it stuck in the body with the black headstocked neck I bought from you a wee while ago on it. I'm going to speak to some of the DIY experts at work, to see what I can do about it, I'd happily bung the neck in too fro free if it's something you can deal with yourself of course. The pickups are basically new, they even still have the sticky plastic on them, I can get picks of them over the weekend too though. Sorry about the delays... Cheers, Eude
