1. also don't know how many of these they made are making - not much on the web - search "alex bass amplifier" then this thread is second. Alex at the bass gallery third and Alex Claber AKA barefaced forth....
 2.
Doh! Thought it was an 'amp' as opposed to a pre!
they've got both - think a powersoft digimod power section - but not sure what they are using for a 400w output? (and into what ohmage) My guess based on the bright and deep switches that it's a Fender/alembic/etc type preamp but seeing the ICs on the circuit board with active eq stage - not sure what the "push" on the mid freq knob is about.
 3.
Has it really only got a 1/4" output connection?
theres a balanced DI output there as well I spy. what more would you have on a preamp? I don't think the hellborg has more does it?
 4. That could be the most amazing bit of gear ever... or it could be mediocre - not the greatest website but... but.... I kinda want to hear one, which is a feeling I don't get much with gear nowadays. If the illustration of the head is actually what's inside and i've recognised it right they are using a top quality class D power amp....
 5. Musicman Sub bass go for about that, the older USA made ones.
 6. didn't notice the blocks!
 7.
I am responsible for it, i bump it up from 2010 I am sorry, addicted but i still don't have 6000 posts like you Master LukeFRC I voted for these cool japanese basses I am looking for infos, advices...
the pics are from the shop ikebe gakki. The model is prob a JB62-US then whatever colour code it is. There was a point a few years back when the yen was weak against the euro and pound when a lot of folk were importing new and secondhand japanese basses. I got one years back from a fella in Essex who imported secondhand japanese fenders and sold them on. Not seen as much of it since the pound and euro weakened. I like fender japan.
 8. Four years later the thread got bumped again- it seemed Basschat was still talking in hushed tones about which FMIC copy of Leo Fender's designs was the best. Elsewhere on the site both then and now.... - what's best for metal, plectrum or fingers, why is my stingray's G string not as loud, Beatles- all that? and why do you need a Fodera when a Squier does the job. Probably still be what's talked about in 2018....
 9.
Relevant because the communication was poor. Broken English , kept having to reiterate what was required. Plus , it was a very basic requirement.
I don't think that nationality (or ethnicity?) matters - just maplin's recruitment policies. Mind you if you came and asked me for a "9v connector lead" I wouldn't have a clue what you were asking for apart from some kind of low voltage power cable? cut cable?
 10.

shame thats stacked pots so actually 6 knobs! (volume - balance / neck coil bass - treble / bridge coil bass - treble ) I would look at an ACG
 11.
I think it is to combat the vast amount if sellers from China selling 99p items and the postage charge making up the total value for what's being sold.
It's all about wanting to get more people to switch to free postage, if you offer free P&P, and a paid for priority postage option you will find one the "best match" view your listings will be a lot higher up. TBH I'm not sure ebay is as interested in me and you as it is the companies selling via it.
 12. If it's for playing lots - whichever feels and sounds the best. If you're a collector and want a museum piece... probably the 1975?
 13.
Take it is a big no no for me then. I'm still thinking shall I buy a light ish powerful cab or add another BC212. The guy wanted to trade 1 of the cab for my BC212. That 2x15 is attractive but if the weight is impossible to move on my own (5ft 8 skinny) then is a big no i take it. Consider all the gear is upstair .......
the guy is on here and called Burg
 14. one is made in indnonesia and the other japan I think? Why would someone spend an extra £3500 on a Pino CS precision when a normal Squier precision is more or less the same? I've got a japanese BB, didn't actually mean to buy it... but the quality of it makes me realise that Beedster is really really daft to sell his BB2024mx
 15.
Ultimately I fell out of love with them and, for my really high end bass, chose a Fodera, a couple of Ritters, a Alleva Coppelo, a Sei, and a Lull instead (what can I say, I like to play!) but when you're up in this sort of quality bracket there's so many little individual things that make the difference
corrected
 16.
I can't tell from the photos, what colour is that finish? Is it a Fiesta Red or more of a pink?
the wife calls it Heinz tomato soup colour. Pinky red orange colour... Molotow's shock orange if I remember correctly.
 17. how is this still here?
 18. I tried a secondhand one in a shop once. Amazing instrument- I understand why people would spend the $$.
 19.
Mine was definitely wood. Is that mdf thing a Basschat urban myth, or have people here actually seen an example?
well it's not not just on basschat, and on the guitars as well as the basses apparently.... and having stripped the body of one - yes. HOWEVER, not all of them seem too... and I don't think it matters one bit - they sound great.
 20. good necks, good ceramic pups, commonly have a body made of some kind of mdf type stuff - good basses.
 21.
I'll be honest, I haven't heard of some of these!
are you going to tell us eh?
 22. amazing looking!
 23.
@Monkyman Well, no, that's not what happened. We were at rehearsal and the guitarists combo died. I had the BDDI with me so I decided to try out my disaster-recovery plan while guitarist used my head/cab rig. Try as we might, we couldn't get any useful volume for my bass by using the BDDI without an amp. This made me think about what I'd do if my head went down at a gig. That was last week. This week, we rehearsed in a different room with a different PA. The crappy speakers immediately started to distort when I used the BDDI as a preamp. I've sort of given up with the BDDI now. Instead, I'll buy a back-up head, I think.
sorry to be pernickety - but it's unlikey to be a flaw in the speakers that the BDDI brought up. Either the BDDI is broken or something else is set wrong- but probably in between the BDDI and the desk. My guess again is that something wasn't set right on either the gain input - any line/mic level button - or something with the Eq on the desk causing the problems. Otherwise - this is cheap and I can almost guarantee it will work to get a bass into the PA
 24.
Not sure you have defined 'better' with the examples you have used. For me, I think you need to be looking at £1000 s/h to be in good bass territory and even then it isn't a rock solid garauntee. That isn't to say you can't luck out with £750 or be out of luck with £1500 spent, but the trick is to know what you are looking for and what you can do with the bass and therefore take the luck out it to quite a degree.
the bold bit I agree with - the rest I don't - secondhand prices are no indication of anything other than how much someone will sell the bass for - my main bass was £400 with it's hard case - new they are over £3000... other basses don't seem to depreciate much at. It depends what you're looking for in "good bass territory" and what makes it good. When your standards Stingray/US Fender jazz/precison etc etc can found at the 500-750 mark I really don't know what extra of good you'd be looking for.
Indeed. The whole industry relies on the perception that there is a division between "professional" ( the magic word) and amateur gear, and that you won't really be able to be effective until you have got equipment of a certain level. The truth, however, is that we have all seen excellent musicians who can make very ordinary basses sound extraordinary because they have the skill to do so, and most professionals are far more concerned with doing their job well , getting paid and getting repeat work than in fetishising their equipment . Even if you do need certain kinds of equipment in certain situations, it's only a question of getting enough money to purchase it. Not necessarily easy, but not usually insurmountable. If you can't play very well though, then no amount of money will help you, unless you spend it on lessons, and ultimately, if you long to be a musician then only playing well will make you happy.
My friend trained in music tech and then worked for a few years in the LA studio scene. he used to talk of manufacturers creating 3 levels of gear. Beginners stuff. Pro stuff. and the top of the range fancy big bucks stuff - which is aimed at non-pros (who probably have more gear buying money than some pros!).
