Hmm four and a half years to my 40th.... start planning!
-
Wal is like an old fashioned ugly ACG isn’t it?
-
Don’t tell Rog you sold one of your Sadowsky @AndyTravis - he might not be as close a buddy. and at some point, that custom USA model he’s already thinking about for his mates 40th... you need to tell him you have got Wal sorting you. It’s going to be hard for Rog but I hope he will pull through
-
Andy’s mate Rog doesn’t mess about!

I only logged into basschat this morning to check @Merton had that link!!! I’ve not been amp shorting for a long time, but some really reasonable prices on the valve amps

You realising why I got bassdoc to make me one now?
-
I was tempted by the 4 but then realised we are close to dollar parity... And I’ve no money!
-
If you look down the list there’s an Olympic white one too and a 4 - grabbed the wrong photo!

It’s different ethos of how you approach live sound. I’m using the stomp into a PA at church (proper FRFR) and using the amp and cab models. The perception of how it works in the mix is via the PA. That said when I was in my originalls band we very very quickly got to a point where the PA was doing all the lifting for the FOH sound - at that point the amp and cab are essentially a fancy stage prop at worst or a single instrument monitor at best. Obviously your experiences don’t match mine which proves the point that everyone’s needs and bands needs are different!
-
So do I - I just add the colour with the helix!
-
I’m finding that too - it’s really sensitive to input. You kinda have to set up compression and anything that uses dynamics for each bass. im using mine into the effects return of a HK quantum 600 and into Stevies BCCab I made. So FRFRish on a budget

I’ve built a few basses from parts, and for my last build built the body from a lump of wood ... it was fun. The next step would be making the neck too... watching that video makes me think I’ll stick to someone else doing the making from now on!

I know it’s An old post - but That looks awesome

I enjoyed those. I love his delivery if not his taste in what makes a beautiful instrument...

You know how you can use a rasp on a bit of wood and it goes really really slowly, and the rasp gets clogged fairly often... put apart from that it does what you want... well imagine one of them that works faster and doesn’t get clogged. Very quick and easy to use. homebase is a DIY and home improvement store, not a cabinet makers store, nor woodwork store or luthiers store and doesn’t tend to specialise in Japanese tools! Axminster is though

Or... this is actually an amazing tool to have and not expensive. I have used mine so much for so many things. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1723183863?iid=231942378788&chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=231942378788&targetid=878705634165&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9046327&poi=&campaignid=9437819219&mkgroupid=95525168813&rlsatarget=pla-878705634165&abcId=1139356&merchantid=7318514&gclid=CjwKCAjw1cX0BRBmEiwAy9tKHo2vq1gMVJutsw3mRAVnq9SynOIglKGjiAKCLUs2DtVmil3c33teShoC77QQAvD_BwE#ProductDetails

Postage on all of them is €32.”

I was looking at them and thinking that if they are any good the first batch is likely going to have the highest QC on them
-
RCF 745 I think from memory. That range of RCF cabs. QSC K12.2 also well liked by @Frank Blank (and obviously their higher end models)
-
If the speaker is full range and flat response it will be tuned to have a flat response over the full range... and be perfect for something like helix that models cabs. the problem you might have is a lot of the FRFR speakers out there are designed for guitarists and aren’t that full range and aren’t designed to handle to low end of a bass particularly well. The cabs recommended in the FRFR thread by the likes of @BigRedX and others will be what you want for a bass capable FRFR speaker
