  1. I don't grudge the time. It was always a hobby, good time spent with mates and there were never any dreams of stardom... And never any strong will to go out and get gigs. Clearly. It was only this last attempt to get things going that there was an upfront intention to make a go of it So not really twenty years wasted... Only the last two and a half 😂😁
  2. @bluewine with all due respect your situation is very different. We are a bunch of mates who love music, own instruments, and love(d) each others company. Is not the same as someone who is looking for a gigging band to make a buck. It's purely fun. I make enough money in my day job (if indeed that is actually possible 🤔😀) There no way music would make me enough money with my ability/mindset
  3. None of us ever pushed it until lately. I saw no point in trying again until everyone agreed we were going to proactively look for gigs, record some of our originals etc. Turns out one of us want bring honest.
  4. I couldn't agree more 👍. It is sad. We are all really easy going. That's probably the problem.
  5. So long as the number of bands seeking dedicated bassists outweigh those looking for good bassists, I should be OK 😁👍
  6. Hi, After 30 months of rehearsals, collectively thousands of pounds of equipment, three drummers and zero gigs our band has collapsed into a pool of nothingness. This isnt the first time. We have been pretty much the same band - Guitar/vox, guitar and bass plus circulating drummers - for twenty years - year on, two years off, six month on, one year off and so on but have never got to the point of playing a gig. We've had opportunities but other members of the band never felt we were ready. I think this may be the last time we'll get together to be honest. I'm the one who pushes it, arranges rehearsals, look for opportunities but it always gets thrown back at me. I'm done! I quit after it became clear - when pushed during a"where are we going" chat - the lead guitarist has no interest in gigging and only really wants a night out of the house away from his kids. Everyone else has just kind of left it at that and the and is no more. Its a shame really as we were better than we've ever been and the core three were friends from school and this has resulted in a falling out - or "toys oot the pram" more like. Why can't people just be honest up front? We all have personal lives and our own goals. You'd think friends would like to help you achieve yours. I only agreed to give it another rgo if we were serious about doing something productive this time. I guess I'm just spouting off. Here endeth the rant!
  7. Like many peeps are with Neil Young (who is a god in my opinion) I just can't get into Zepplin due to Plants voice. The music is legendary but the voice kills me. I've really tried! 😕
  8. That's one that takes perseverance. I went through that journey twenty years ago and found that all of a sudden it just made sense. Took about four years and 7 or 8 listens but I got there and loved it. Really loved it. I'd not listened to it for a while and went back to it a couple of years back.. Felt like I was back to square one! Didn't bother persevering again... There's so much more beefheart to enjoy... Even Moonbeams!
  9. Might need to look into raising the action.... Takes a lot of effort to play lighter... Get a little excited 😁
  10. Just had our first practice last night since fitting labella white nylons on my fretted Ibanez Atk. They sound lovely! Good thump and great note definition. Sharper sounding than standard flatwounds but not zingy. First impressions are very positive. I normally use 45 sets of rounds and went for the 50 set of nylons. String tension might prove to be an issue. Getting clicky noises through the amp which I think is caused by the string rattling of the frets immediately after plucking. Will need to investigate a little further. ... Or maybe just play with lighter touch.
  11. Still fails to open after update and reboot. 😪
  12. App doesn't open on my android oneplus 3T Edit... There's an update in the play store. Hopefully that will fix it
  13. Sounds like the OP has enjoyed the bass for a few years and it needs some tlc to get it back to how they liked it. If they are not sure what they are doing then a luthier may well be the best way to get back the bass they used to have. A luthier may at least be able to identify what's causing the issues.u Might be noise from the frets and might just need a set up...?
  14. Woman in charge of a masonic function??? 🙄
  15. I went through a journey of no effects to a zoom. B3 (didn't get on with it), to a couple of pedals that turned into about ten at one point, sold those that didn't see much, if any, use. Then set about replacing the ones I did use with better/different versions. Until I settled on what I have and am pretty happy with. It's a bit of a mine field but experimentation and buying second hand - in the BC marketplace for example - Is the way to go. I've probably had about 25 pedals pass through my hands, some stayed for a while then got sold on. Some didn't last a day. But I don't think it's cost me much more than postage costs. One pedal is the holy grail defining sound to one player but complete mush to the next... And that's before you start looking for drive pedals. That's a whole other mountain to climb. Good luck in your quest and don't be afraid to try things that don't necessarily appeal. Everything sounds different once the band kicks in.
  16. The O2 Abc was a great venue. Saw a few bands there over the years. Can't see it getting rebuilt somehow which is a great shame but never say never. La belle angel was rebuilt in Edinburgh after burning down but has lost its character. Edinburgh is shocking for losing music venues... Mainly due to property development or new neighbours complaining about noise (so don't move next door to something you don't like! ... That's another debate) The Venue was a great place to see bands, the original Labelle Angel, Cas Rock Cafe, the Picture House, to name but a few.
  17. Mainly a rocky indie kind of thing. Not at all metal. I have an Ibanez Atk 800 bass. Love that thing. Very versatile. P thud type of thing through to a stingray-ish sound. I have an EBS Reidmar 750 and TC Rs210 cabs. Pedal board is Cog Rogue One > Knightfall 66 > TC Vortex > TC Spark Boost. The knightfall really helps get close to that tubey full sound. Sounds terrible played solo... Maybe not terrible but it's not good. Sounds amazing when the band kick in. Took quite a long time to work that out. I don't have any clean mixed in with the blend knob. The rogue one, I don't really use to its full capacity yet. I only really use the one channel in the band, and I've not yet found a home for the octave but I love playing around with them at home. In the band the rogue one soloed doesn't really cut it but with the 66 still engaged it creates a full blown round fuzz sound that dominates the mix but without really over doing it.
  18. My desert island pedal would be the Cog Knightfall 66... Its my always on pedal. Anything else I have is only used on certain songs or certain passages within songs.
  19. Tilted is an outstanding track. My wife likes them a lot. I can take or leave.

    Spectracomp

I use an EBS Reidmar 750 head and 2x TC Rs210 cabs. It sounds great but at the rehearsal rooms I play my head through their TC BC410 and it seems be lacking in general oomph. Last week for convenience I used the rehearsal rooms TC BH500 head which sounded completely gutless, until I added a bit of the built in Spectracomp and suddenly the sound filled out, cut through the mix and generally sounded none too shabby. The Reidmar has a built in compressor but it doesnt transform the sound anything like what the Spectracomp did on the BH. Forbidding the benefit of tone prints, does the Spectracomp pedal work a similar type of magic as the version built in to the BH500 head?
  21. I think it's down to the fact that as a fairly small community and everyone values their reputation. ... And bassists generally aren't the big ego types who think they'll just blag their way out of anything
