1. I think the E is the most obvious inconvenience since it's probably the string I start most of my licks from but its probably the easiest (except the G) to do without as I can quite easily transpose to the A string. Like you say, missing A or D would be hardest to compensate for. I don't often go near the G string... On my bass ?
2. Keep an eye on Thomann deco basses
3. I need some stage patter... Think that's a winner!
4. Just stumbled across this on Kickstarter. Turns your standard leccy bass into an upright. If you didn't already have GAS.... ? Stand Up Strings | Vertical Guitar Stand, via @Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2138981007/stand-up-strings-vertical-guitar-stand
5. I have a reidmar 750 and the fan noise has never bothered me at all using it in a small bedroom for practice. Yes it can be heard when theirs nothing else going on but playing with the volume at 1 easily drowns it.
6. I guess the alternative is paying to watch individual videos.
7. I'll bet the kits aren't that bad in terms of quality when compared with low to mid range basses available in the shops. By the time the company adds the labour to put it all together and painting parts etc and then adds a profit onto that, before passing it on to a distributor with all their costs who then adds a profit, who passes it to a retailer with all their costs and adds a profit... That doesn't leave much room for material costs in the first instance. Fair enough economies of scale come in to play but the material costs can't be too dissimilar.
8. I started out with a used encore strat bought through the classified ads in the local rag. It came with a headphone amp that ran on batteries and had a built in chorus effect. I connected this to the mic input of my dad's vertical turntable hifi type thingy (might have been a Mitsubishi?) And blasted power chords and feedback across the lounge when no one was home. The mic input stopped working after a short while... Never did 'fess up about that.
9. Bought knightfall pedal from Darren. Gentleman to deal with. 👍
10. Best purchase : Cog Knightfall is just got today from tonyxtiger... Great drive pedal! Runner up : EBS Reidmar 750... Got it in a head swap. Best value : EBS Fuzzmo... For £50 you ain't going to get a better fuzz Worst : boss oc-3 super octave. Bought then sold in the same week
11. Thanks chickenjames, I use a pedal train Volto power supply. It's essentially it's a rechargeable 9v battery with two outputs, Each has a 3 plug daisy chain plugged in. I don't think the two outputs are isolated from each other tho. Hopefully I'll get a chance to run it in the house again tomorrow and fingers crossed it will just work... As it did in rehearsal. 🤞
12. Never played a gig... Not a proper one anyway. Getting closer to it now tho! Same band of school mates that for 20 years has formed and dispersed then reformed and dispersed and... Now finally has the mindset to get some gigs! Watch this space! (All the gear...!!!)
13. Yup... Just makes it louder!
14. Pedal performed flawlessly tonight. Totally silent in switching off and on. I was using same bass, same cables, my own head, same as I use at home, only difference is it's their cab. I use a pedaltrain volto power supply so can't even blame the mains. (Obviously the amp is plugged into the mains) I arrived at rehearsal first so had a chance to set up and check it before anyone else arrived. Any ideas why it might be noisy in the house and not at the rehearsal rooms?
15. Previous owner sez he never used it so didnt experience it doing that. Bought it new two years ago. Never even plugged it in. To be fair, it does look like it has never been touched. No glue marks, rubber feet still in box etc. Anyway, he wasnt for taking it back. I'll be using at a rehearsal tonight so I'll see how it fairs in with the rest of the band. Easy to be picky in the house on your own. Not running it last makes difference. I'll see if it's tolerable. Only need it for one song along with the flanger so hopefully it won't be too obvious.
16. Gary Clark Jr.- come together This might just be the best cover of a Beatles song I've heard! Dirty bass! https://g.co/kgs/idozJm
17.
Take a walk up Nicholson Street, Scayles and it's sister shop Live Music are up there. Head down towards Leith and there's Rikki's on the left hand side. Duncanson & Edwards is the big pawn shop on Queens Street. http://www.duncansonedwards.co.uk/ http://www.scayles.co.uk/ http://livemusicshop.co.uk/
Is Rikki's still there? Thought it was long gone? I bought my first guitar there many moons ago. Duncanson Edwards rarely has anything bass-like beyond Westfields and the like. The odd fender every now and again. Live music is the interesting one. As suggested can be expensive but they are willing to haggle. And you can pop in to Scayles whilst you are near by. Guitar guitar for a bigger selection of big brands but tends to be quite conservative. Loads of p's, j's and lookylikeys.
18. Thanks guys. Sounds like this one may be faulty
19. Hi, I just bought a used TC Spark Mini boost pedal. There is fairly obvious pop when engaging it. Is that normal? I was hoping to run it last in chain before the amp, but it would not be usable. The pop is less pronounced if I slot it in before my flanger. Only other boost I've used is a Rodenberg LPD and that was silent.
20. Ed bought an EBS pedal from me. Great Comms, quick payer. Great buyer!
21. I've had my '82 Ibanez Blazer since around '94/'95 so around 22 years. Pawn shop purchase. Love it still tho it doesn't get out of the house much.
22. I had a 200, the recent model, that i loved the sound of. Sold it on only to fund the 800 I have now. Lovely bass. Nice throaty growl from the bridge pickup and the neck pickup does a decent p-style tone. DR Lo Riders are the best strings I've tried on it - not the hex cores tho as I've just found out. 😣 ATKs are great basses. Very underated by those who don't know 😉
