1. Hi Charlie, I'm going to Veroboard it as I don't have the facillities to make PCB's. The last time I made PCB's was back in the early 80's when I was an electronics tech. The 741 was king! Just started building it now but the mancave is a bit cold as the wife has nicked my gas heater, slow progress!
2. I'm lefthanded bass playing wise but at primary school I was made to write with my right hand ( the good old 60's eh!). I have a left master eye, I shoot off my left shoulder, I'm lefthanded at archery but I push a brush, use a screwdriver, hammer, spanner righthanded. I'm completely screwed up!! Just for a laugh recently I taught myself to write lefthanded and that really freaks work collegues out with my 2 completely different signatures! Oh and when I used to shoot competitive pistol, I was righthanded and tilted my head to use my left eye for aiming!! My primary school teachers have a lot to answer for! LOL. I don't think there is such a thing as pure right or lefthandedness
3. Stepping on the 'Forbez Fuzzy Bunny' (modded wooly mammoth clone thingy) instead of the OD pedal for a bit of grit mid tune, treating the audience to a bit of full on Muse mentalness!!! Even the singer noticed and he's usually three sheets to the wind. Lead geetar afterwards 'I want one of those!'
4. Usually The Killers 'All these things I've done' and Johnny Cash 'Folsom/Ring of Fire' mash up. Works everytime for us anyway! Biker gigs usually end with 'Whole lotta Rosie' n 'Killing in the name of'. Once ended with 'Comfortably Numb' cue whistling wind noise n tumble weed going past! LOL
5. Aaaaaargh passive tone stacks!!! like Bill says close eyes, twiddle knobs until a reasonable sound emerges! '11 will push you over the cliff!'
6. Thanks for the suggestions Charlie. I'll socket the IC's and try the 072's and the OPA2134's just to see if I can hear a difference. I've read a few of your posts on Talkbass, always informative!
7. Ashdown Superfly, I thought it was the answer to my prayers. light, loud, programmable. Oh dear! not a single decent tone to be had and you could fry an egg on the casing. Gutted!!!!! If I see an Ashdown backline where I'm playing I die a little, I just cant get them to work for me. Oh and one of the best live bass tones I ever heard was from a P bass into a Carlsboro twin speaker combo, go figure. My HH VS100 bass combo bought brand new from Bruce Millers in Aberdeen (hire purchase!) was no great shakes either! Loud though.
8. I'll have to look into that one thanks Nick. Passinwind its the Jfet Bass Preamp Ver 2.1 07082002 3 get design with the switchable eq.
9. Hi folks, I'm just about to build the Kreuzer preamp and just wondered if anyone on the forum had done so and what they though of it. I have a BBE BMax preamp and I just can't get on with that passive tone stack! So I thought I'd have a crack at this Kreuzer preamp. Looking at the schematic it looks pretty good. Any thoughts? Cheers Cammie
10. Hi Mikebass84, its simple when you know how. The signal from your bass goes to the Input, the output signal goes to your amp. The fuzz pedal input is connected to 'snd' and the output from the fuzz pedal goes to 'rcv'. Blend to taste. I have just built a wee blender circuit very similar to that one in the link. It works well, just have to built the enclosure for it now. Hope this helps.

I removed the internal trimpots on mine and made them external. Spent ages trying to get a useable sound and failed! I did notice a bit of distortion on the sweep but dialing it out produced more weirdness. Gave up.
12. I could manage with just a modded BDI21 and my home made Forbes Fuzzy Bunny!
13. In my case the phrase 'ya canna polish a turd!' applies. Clean jeans, polo shirt, big f*** off boots thats it. Wedding gigs n posh do's I prefer a casual trouser or kilt lol
14. Combined 50th and 21st birthday party at a small village hall up our way on Saturday night. The usual high ceiling and boomy wooden stage. Couldn't get a sensible bass sound after 10 minutes, gave up and cut the lows and played with a pick for most of the night. The singer as usual knew everybody and as it was a byob event, people were loading him up with 'house' size measures. You can guess the rest! wasted after the first set ffs! Forgotten lyrics and arrangements, luckily our rythym geetarist was on the ball and covered it. Singer decides that jumping off the fairly high stage onto a low beam and swing from it whilst singing would be a good idea. He actually managed it! for all of ten seconds. Falls off and it looks like he's unconcious, cue lots of girlies running up to him and suddenly he makes a miraculous recovery! Jumps back on stage and 'goes haha fooled yous' Me 'so whats with the blood pishing from your hand then you fanny' Drummer has a first aid kit in his bag and bandages the numpties hand. People actually pay us really good money for this nonsense and keep booking us!!!! It sure isn't for my bass stylings LOL
15.
does it matter?
Ha! I knew someone would bite! Actually I liked it and it would be a shame if he kept those talents to the bedroom. I just watched his exploits on the Balalika, brilliant!!!
16. Gawd! That Bryan Ferry tune was smoother than a smooth thing from smooth land. Lovely tone from Mr Pratt, he is rather good!
17. So plastic coated then! moving on nothing to see here.
18. Hmmm didn't really like the guy's vocals but I liked the tune, groovy sh1t! Not sure about the bass solo though, a bit 'burpy' sounding for me. Gets old man coat LOL
19. Halloween gig at the Aberlour Hotel in Aberlour funnily enough! Not played there before and judging by the turnout not many bands go there. The place was rammed with 20 somethings, all dressed up, half pissed n ready to party. This village is in whisky country and the locals and us did our best to drink the place dry! A few sound issues early on but sorted. Second set was a belter. You know your on a winner when the bar staff are singing along. Great time had by all, repeat booking and getting a hotel room and breakfast for a tenner! Oh and the 100 bucks in the hipper as well. RESULT!!!!
20. Played the Moorings Bar, Aberdeen many moons ago. Long, low dark hole of a place and some well dodgy 'characters'. Anyhoo the stage is very small and had really bright spotlights so you were squinting and could hardly see the crowd (bonus). Just finishing a tune and a half full can of coke comes flying thro the air and smacks me right on the forehead! I was f*****g rageing!!!! Jumped off the stage into the crowd with my old Aria Pro above my head and the wee twat that chucked it sh*t it and started running for the door. Being a wee slippery twat he got between the bouncers, unfortunately (fortunately?) the bouncers caught me! Back to the stage , covered in coke cola and a big round of applause. I love dive bars, spent the next day getting the sticky mess off the bass Grrrr!
21. Boilersuit and rig boots if I've been busy on the smallholding before the gig. Have turned up at a gig in mortuary greens, though I did clean most of the blood off, sorta! Usually its clean demins, dark coloured polo shirt and timberlands finest boots for pub and village hall gigs. 'Normal' weddings are kilt outfit or smart casual. Biker wedding (we've done a few) anything goes! We have turned up at a supposedly biker do in a village hall to find out that its an actual normal wedding reception and here's us in leathers n ripped demin! The bride and groom thought it would be hilarious, it was, a bunch o hairy assed biker types playing acoustic love songs!
22. Safety helmet is the only headgear you need for our gigs!!!!!!
23. My covers band wants to play Parallel Universe by RHCP, I'm mainly a fingers player but to get the right tone I need to do it with a pick. Holy c**p its hard to do accurately and consistantly if your pick technique isnt up to scratch! I'm getting there and a .5mm pick helps LOL
24. Presence was described to me by a sound engineer as a 'sparkle' control! It enhances the very end of the audio high frequency spectrum IIRC.
