1. Crap tunes to play at weddings! Still if it gets them moving, I'll smile and give it my all! Money softens the blow
2. Another wedding gig at the same place as last week, the Coo Cathedral. Smaller crowd and pretty much disinterested till the last half hour The usual requests to keep playing! Another hog roast at half time, seems to be the in thing up here now and a free bar for the band which the singer took full advantage of! Might at least got us some drinks whilst he was up. We have seen him vault the bar and help himself to drinks whilst still singing the jammie sod. A lot of English people up for the wedding and they just wanted to hear Scottish Country dance music, so we obliged and got the ipod out, that took care of a hour! Finally managed to get a good sound out the BBE preamp after some advice from BC member Ghost Bass. A reasonable gig and well paid.
3. Hi Ghost Bass, yeah I tried that setting and it worked well with a pick but i prefer to play fingerstyle most of the time and it just disappears. I tried the parametric mid shift control but its really sensitive and usually gets boxy sounding. Will give another chance at the wedding gig this Saturday.
4. Hi Folks, I've just acquired one of these little half rack units and wondered if anybody has used one on a live gig? I'm fed up of my BBE preamp and the Fender style tonestack, it only seems to have one sound and its a pain to try and get some mids happening in a boomy room. Any info greatly appreciated on the wee Yamaha. Cheers Cammie
5. Buy the drummer a big electric fan, he'll love you for it and he'll forgive your screwups. Worked for me
6. Wedding gig for us at the Coo Cathedral, Aboyne. Due to work I'm the last to arrive, holy sh1t this place is massive, granite walls, tall vaulted ceiling. This not going to sound good! I beg our guitarist to hold back on the volume and she does! Sounded OK in the end, helped by a large crowd, who were up dancing by the second tune. Great night and only a few flubbs. The hog roast at half time was awesome, greasy fingers doesn't make for great string life. Best thing we have another wedding gig there this weekend so we got to leave our gear and PA set up, RESULT!
7. 'Stuck in the middle with you' is a guaranteed floor filler. Great bass line, but I keep thinking of ears being cut off when playing it! Used to play 'Breathe' by the Prodigy, a real finger killer that, got em bouncing tho'
8. Made of stone, Stone Roses and Parallei Universe, Chili Peppers. My picking hand is falling off! Lol
9. Thanks steve-bbb, he hates jazz. Time to learn some noodly jazz run. Better still some fretless bass!
10. No personality clash at all Flyfisher, just a desire to play the correct bassline for the song. Root notes would have just sounded sh1te. The unison run with the guitars as Blitz said is the defining characteristic of the song. Its the lead players band so I could be a good little bass player and do what I'm told. On that day Satan shall skate to work. LOL
11. Yeah Blitz, i spent a lot of time getting it right and then be told to root note it ffs!!!. I just ignored him and carried on playing 'too many notes' lol
12. I generally try to play the line as faithfully as possible, not always appreciated! I'm gonna have a bit of fun with this. Can't wait until he starts soloing in the wrong key and I'm going to peer over my specs and give him my best 'really!' look. Sacked!!!!! lol
13. I am indeed a patient man, I'm probably going to stick around till he sacks me just for the hell of it! I have plenty other work with my other band. Must learn some jazzy sh1t to work in to some classic tune and watch him go apoplectic LOL
14. Yeah I'm big n fat too but it doesn't seem to faze him! He really likes to be the centre of attention and I think he just wants a roots player. Not long for this band methinks.
15. The other band I play in plays classic rock covers, we do all the usual tunes including 'Emerald' by Thin Lizzy, great tune IMO. Rocks up to the practice having learned it but simplifying the ending so I don't tread on the widdling guitarists toes. First run thro' and I get 'too many notes' on the riff that doubles the guitar run. Err thats hows its played Dave. I then get well can you just root note it, it sounds better! I had to laugh I have never ever been accused of playing too many notes in any situation, not that kind of bass player. After spending time on this tune and simplifying the end to give him space to widdle, I get this. Even the keys player was having a wee chortle! Anybody else had this nonsense playing the tune as is and getting 'too many notes' from Mr Widdle Fest.
16. Thanks Horizontalste, its one of the few I'm not pulling a face and looking like a complete gargoyle! LOL
17. Me, not at the back anymore since we became a four piece, except when the stage is tiny and back I go! Hope this works not posted a photo before.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=613566128679520&set=pb.100000784159566.-2207520000.1404806108.&type=3&src=https%3A%2F%2Fscontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-xpf1%2Ft1.0-9%2F1794630_613566128679520_43850653_n.jpg&size=480%2C720
18. Spent 20 years looking for the 'right' tone, discovered a plectrum was all I needed!
19. As usual too late in seeing this post! Would have been happy to lend you our bands PA for the night if we weren't playing that night. I'll have to pop along to the Deeside Inn and have a listen. As Neepheid says definately try a Buttery/Rowie. Try one with a layer of tomato sauce, a cheese slice on top and then grill to produce a Pizza Rowie. Feel those arteries hardening!
20. Thanks Ficelles, the Eminence's are 8 ohm. Of course they had to be about 2mm bigger dia than the Celestions! so out with the flap wheel. Got them fitted. A 'tighter' sound methinks, but now I can barely lift the combo! Anyhoo I have a big marquee gig this Friday with a decent PA so I'll give a whirl and see how it goes. It'll be nice to see the looks on the guitarist's faces as I plonk down a Trace Elliot on the stage.
21. Thanks for the info guys! I contacted Wembley Speakers but unfortunately reconing is going to cost more than replacement Celestions. I have 4 Eminence Gammas so I think I'll use these instead.
22. Just scored a very old Trace Elliot GP11 4x10 combo off the old Evilbay for £41!!!!!!! and it works! The seller didn't seem to know much about amps and was selling it because his son was playing guitar thro' it too loudly. It was described as in full working condition but of course there was a problem, 2 ripped speakers but hey £41 quid! I get it home plug in and holy crap this things LOUD even with 2 ripped speakers. My question is where can I get replacement speakers? are modern celestions OK? The originals are marked TEC 10, 50 watts, 8ohms. Any help greatly appreciated. 23. Here's my homemade effort, Sampson AP1B wireless, Blackpedal homemade opto compressor, Forbes Fuzzy Bunny mk2 Mammoth clone, Lack of Talent Compensator Unit deluxe bazz fuss, Planet Waves tuner and Ibanez SB7 Synth. I have a pedal building thing going on just now and I have a homemade fulltone bassdrive to add soon. This board was built partially to shame our lead guitarist into using some effects!!!
24. Spare lead Guitarist as ours is ALWAYS late!! Bl**dy farmers LOL
25. Scored this pedal off the old evilbay. Handbuilt by a guy originally for a guitar but in his words it sounded a bit 'flabby' but sounded good on bass. I got it for £25 , the components alone are worth more than this! They are top notch components and wired the old fashioned way by point to point. It can only be powered by an external psu. It sounds very good in the'shed' and has a nice smooth overdrive to it. There is a Bass/treble switch, gain, vol and an earth lift switch. Bargain! He builds to order and his designs and artwork are fairly unique. He was a website just google 'Hello Sailor' Just wondering if any you guys have any of his pedals. PS still to try it at gig volume, roll the next gig!
