1. Allighatt0r go out and buy a standard one and I'll modify it for you. Its fairly simple and takes about half an hour.
2. Hi Paul, definately worth modding and very easy to do if your handy with the soldering iron. Biaeothanata-Bassist has modified his and is impressed when he gigged his one. He got complimented by a sound engineer!
3. I was asked to join a classic rock covers band. Got a list of 12 tunes to learn for the first practice. Turned up ready to rock, went into the first tune, aaaargh wrong key! Every one of those 12 tunes were not played by them in the original key and they had wildly different arrangements for them. It took a while to sort out. Just shows you how other people interpret tunes.I know I should have asked about keys etc.
4. Just about to gig a £40 Peavey Milestone 3 from evilbay. New strings, a setup and a change of the neck vol pot to a switch (don't like 2 Vol's). Sounds good in the mancave. I don't give a flying feck what anybody thinks of my basses. My regular gigging basses are a Westone Thunder 1A (£80) and an Aria SB600 (£150). Its all good! Oh and I am a tight lefthanded Scotsman.
5. Walk away now, lifes too short for this crap! I walked from a classic rock covers band due to an egomanical guitarist and its like a ton weight being lifted from my shoulders. Sounds like you're a talented dude, start a metal band with your gf and steal their gigs!!!!!
6. Hi folks, just scored one of these off the evilbay for £40! Just wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with them. This ones is surprisingly good nick, no issues. I have never played a bass with such a thin neck, its weird! I have had a MIM jazz before and the peavey is much smaller. It also weighs nothing (that'll be the plywood). Gonna use it for a backup so I don't have to drag my 11.5lb Aria SB600 out with me on gigs. I have already changed over the neck pickup pot for a pickup up switch because I don't like the 2 Volume setup for gigging. Being a lefty tight Scotsman I do like to get a cheap bass and make em gig worthy. Any decent mods for them?
7. 'Hey big man, we're fae Glesgae aright ya dobber!' Swiftly followed by a glesgae kiss and a kick in the chugs for the manager. We really need a Glesgae emoticon, a sneery smile wi a slash mark on the face!
8. The true bypass mod is on the cards for mine but I never noticed much difference with the bypassed sound and the normal sound. I tend to have the pedal on all the time now and just flick the mid switch for either a bassy scooped sound or a more middy sound. Simples!
9. Forgot to add, the first gig money I got I gave to my mum. After all the piano lessons I thought I should at least make the wee gesture. She was affa proud!
10. All started with piano lessons being forced on me by my mother, my dad plays accordion so my mum spent a fortune on piano lessons thinking I much have some musical talent, wrong! A few years of getting nowhere on piano, just couldn't get the two handed thing down, learned to read music though. Long since forgotten. Punk happened and I was thinking I'm having some of this! By this time the piano lessons had stopped and I badgered my mum to let me buy a bass since I had seen Sid Vicious and though he was the coolest dude on the planet. Hello Grant EB3 copy bought from Bruce Millars in Aberdeen for the princely sum of £50, paid with the tattie howkin money I'd made. Got a few lessons on it from Davie Black (the Singing Painter) in Inverurie, only problem Davie is a Jazz dude. I'm learning scales when all want to do in play 'Anarchy in the UK'. My best mate Euan bought an SG copy and a Peavey amp and I got a brand new H/H VS Bassamp combo on HP and we were set to rock the world when we found a drummer! Got hold of a local guy who had played in bands, the first 'practice' lasted 30 minutes after the drummer called a halt and informed us we were sh1te! he was correct we sucked big time. After this knock back we just dicked around. Euan joined the army and that was that. Or was it? Roll on a few years I'm 28, I literally woke up one morning and just decided to buy a bass. One Aria MAB400 lefty, a farmer, a civil servant, a digger driver and a butcher I have a band which I'm still playing in 20 years later. Funny old world.
11.
Je ne serai pas si sûr. C'est parfaitement compréhensible avec un modicum de patience et un peu d'imagination. Pour ceux élevés au 'Beano', ce n'est rien.
Time tae brush up oan ma french since am gan there in December! Anyhoo I'd still have that drummer in my band! That singer as well for a few numbers would be hilarious in a 'teuchter' pub up my way
12.
That's nae Turra Show is it?
Hi Gadgie, na we're nae that guid! Tarland Marquee. Been doin it for the last few years, singers fae Tarland.
13.
Nae muckle folk wid get yer first word, bit I ken I did. TBH, I don't like long solo's whether it's on the drums, bass, or guitar. However, in this case it's purely a fun thing and not an ego thing I would say. Good on him
Hi Gadgie, foos yer doos, couldnae resist gettin a bit o the Doric in there min! I'd have him in my band oany time, jist leave him tae get oan wi it an the rest o us wid jist ging tae the bar! Some fouk jist need tae lighten up a bit ye ken! Doric is fit wi spik up here in the NE of Scotland, incomprehensible tae oanybody sooth o Stonehaven!
14. Hoorin funny!!!!!! The only thing 'wrong' is the dudes haircut. As BigRedX said 'I'd have him in my band', nobody would notice my crappy bass playing
15. I would do the mod as it definately helps with a dark sounding bass. Just another tonal option. It can be set back to the standard sound with the mod switch, nothing lost. Good drummers are worth their weight in gold! Our drummer is the most talented in the band, it took a long time to find him! Guitards, ten a penny pah!
16. It certainly has a scoop Cheddatom but it all depends on what bass goes into it. My Aria SB600 is fine with it as its middy sounding anyway but its weighs 11.5 lbs and its a bit much on a 3hr set. My Westone Thunder 1A just seems to get lost with it. My live setup is a BBE preamp into a stereo power amp and a 15 n 2x10. The BBE on 'flat' setting (passive tone stack) still has a bit of mid scoop on it. I love a scooped sound when practicing but it just gets lost live IME. Liking 'Creepjoint' by the way and it didn't sound too scooped on my crappy computer speakers!
17. Used the modified BDI21 on two gigs at the weekend. The pedal is now a lot more versatile, lots of mid punch now. Finally have the fingerstyle tone I want live now. The pick tone can be a little in your face but can be toned down by switching off the 'notch' setting. Well worthwhile modification. If anybody wants the mod doing lets know.
18. 2 gigs this weekend, friday night local young farmers marquee dance. Absolutely persisting down. Low turn out for the first part of the evening, which was just as well cos the rock covers band I was playing in had guitarist volume issues again and the drummer was doing everything at breakneck tempos and having timimg issues. After the set I spoke to said guitarist and told him I was gone. Same dude who just wanted me to root note everything! On with my second band, much better with about 100 pissed farmers in now and up for a party. Best part of the evening was when our original (and best) guitarist wandered up to us and asked for his old job back! Result!!!!! He played with us on the second half of the set and I couldn't stop smiling. Our original line up is back and sounding even better with two guitars again. Did I really say that out loud LOL. Sunday gig, wedding at posh hotel, bride and groom are rock fans, superb. Rocking set and not too many weddingy type tunes. Good crowd, booze n food laid on too! Finished by 1130 pm and no work on Monday morning. Only downside having to hand over the the gig money to the missus, apparently the horse needs fed or something?
19. Cameltoe how dare you suggest 'Sanctuary' is boring, only 4 notes but you need to play em like your life depended on them! Only kidding My personal bore fest is Prince 'Kiss' I really dont know what to do with that tune other than make thump noises, if somebody would be as kind as to enlighten me I would greatly appreciative.
20. Hi Chris, apparently the mid switch disables the mid scoop and the notch is subtle. Not sure about it. I think it removes a filter in the treble end of the spectrum. A wee bit more 'zing' to the top end? hard to describe. My conversion is a bit rough, just used the components I had lying about the mancave. The two holes either side of the earth switch were for the switches, unfortunately they were too big for that position, oops!. I think I'll get another BDI21 and make a neater job, maybe a stomp button for the mid switch.
21. UFO 'Doctor, Doctor' played at Garlogie Village hall 1994.
22. I just stole the guitarist's 4x12 and replaced it with a 2x12 and modded her Marshall JCM900 rear power switch so it was stuck on the 50W setting! She didn't beat me up too badly, RESULT! Glad you got him reigned in.
23. Hi Folks, been meaning to do this mod for a while now. I've not been using the BDI21 for a while now due to it losing a lot of mids from the sound plus coupled to my BBE preamp even more mid loss!. Found the mod on youtube by a guy with the handle of FrankenP. Its fairly straightforward and requires a fine tipped soldering iron, a steady hand, a 10K, a 470k resistor and two switches. It works well and you get your mids back and the notch switch gives the sound a bit more zing!?. Will try it out at our next marquee dance next weekend.
24. As an engineering exercise its utterly brilliant but we're not out of a job yet! Being an electronics tech many moons ago, I really appreciate the amount work that would have been needed to tweak that system to get it that good to play 'Hysteria' Nice choice of pick, my favorite orange Dunlops
