2.
Don't take my words out of context, pal, and then, I doubt, if there will be a lotta to laugh from, aight? What I was tryin' to say, he's quite good at playin' all-round, but, for f*cks sake, if kid's doing Jaco's Three Views of a Secret, or Victor's "Grace", is it that hard to make Runaway groovy, especially for showing up to audience? I meant suggesting to 'grow up' the tempo, not for himself... So, are we clear with each other now, mate?
Crystal. Pal. Or is it mate?
 3.
Yes those young ladies wrists, just like Saddam Husseins, gave it away .... and the fact that she stamped my ticket on a recent trip to The Royal Yacht.
Get's my vote for the best random post of 2008 so far.
 4. I love reading these threads- every time I end up having to say the same thing. Not bad that it wasn't until the 5th reply that we got the compliment with the mandatory "but.." attached to it. And not bad to have only 2 criticisms on 1 page. "he's not bad.." ???!!! "he's kinda sloppy.."??!! "There's no groove.."??!! "play stuff slower and grow up..??!! Come on- he's 15 and very good for his age. When he's 35 he may be a monster or conversely he may not groove at all. But at least at 15 he was way, way, way ahead of me and many others at 15. He's on track. Let's see some love for the young 'uns
 5. Happy birthday to one and all. Make a wish.. ^_^
 6.
I must admit to being a little disappointed with the choice of Oliver as the musical for this year though, as the role of Nancy isn't hugely demanding from a vocal perspective. It would have been far more interesting to keep the ALW theme and cast a new Christine for Phantom, or Eva Peron for Evita - both far more demanding vocal and acting roles.
It's all dependent on what musical is next to be recast/hashed a bit like 70's tv series being re-done for cinema etc. Why do the Beeb do this kind of stuff better than ITV? Their shows always seem much more tacky. For the record I can't stand hearing contemporary pop/rock music sung in a theatrical/West-end-Wendy style. Makes my skin crawl.
 7.
nothing better than a laid back funky porn groove :brow:
..under a sleazy wah-wah guitar track. Apparently
 8. Second Hand Pandora PXB? It might seem silly to spend the money but its a very good practice aid as it has rhythm patterns, a tuner and effects etc so it will be much more than a short cut to just hearing your bass.
 9.
How much? Yeah, no problem. End of.
+1
 10. Sale on hold. Need a bit of time to think..
 11. +1 on the positive comments. It's one thing to know all these facts. The tricky part- and I'm sure many of us who have taught will agree- is collating it, making it easy to understand and above all else, getting the chronology right. Nice one.
 12.
hello Huge Hands, that's great to hear mate - hope your problems are behind you. Was that Jo5 a candy apple red one with a J Retro in it? If it was, twas mine before chardbass - lovely bass.
Hey Alan, hey Stu, Alan- tis the same bass- and I still haven't got over the embarrassment of leaving you waiting in your car for hours when we did the exchange- I think I was still asleep when I gave you the money (it was 4k wasn't it?) Still have the bass but I agree with what most say about these basses- much better passive. swapping the Fralins back in as I had tried some Nords. Might try a Sad pre as I'm finding the J retro has almost too many options and may be a bit more of a match for the bass. Stu- glad your back on the mend. Your tech knowledge on all things 'sound' has been a great help on the forum- not that I've been stalking you or anything. Good luck for the gig. And good luck with the GAS- stop making excuses. I've got a wife and cats too!
 13.
Your getting rid of another part of your Eden rig man?? Just to say Richard is an absolute legend to deal with, a very respectable and knowledgeable chap, so please buy with the upmost confidence. Ohhh and he has some pretty cool Cat's as well
Cheers Josh, hope the rig is rumbling like a good 'un

 15.
A few years back I was having a conversation with a drummer friend of mine who is annoyingly good for his age, but whose chops have come primarily through formal education and loads of theoretical practice. As good a drummer as he can be, some of the more intangible aspects of performing (in contrast to simply playing) can get him wound up. During this conversation one of these aspects came up and it has bugged me ever since to know whether I was off the mark or talking sense and, if I was making sense, is it a bass player thing that other's just don't get or rather something he just couldn't get. What caused it all was that I said I can listen to a click track playing four beats to the bar or even a simple drum part - eg kick on 1&3, snare 2&4, ride bell on each beat - and play along, quarter notes, and hear/feel the groove swing. He was utterly baffled by this. Am I mad?
Not mad at all- it's a case of feeling the (quaver) triplet, but unless you bring out the odd swung quaver in the line it would sound like a straight feel. I would find it hard to not suggest the swing with the odd skip or dead note- a bit like not chewing a Fruit Pastille or licking your lips when eating a doughnut (think I need to eat) If I understand what you are saying then the same drummer would have a problem playing a 12/8 feel when given a count of 4 as opposed to "1-and-a-2-and-a-3-and-a-4-and-a"

 17.
iColour4's get the thumbs up from our band but if LED's had been more widely available and not as expensive (at the time) we'd have gone for those instead of searing our skin off under the iColours! Anyone know what the bottom line spend is to get a controller that can be pre-programmed with a lighting sequence/pattern on patches, a la multi FX units?
I think you only hassle with LEDs is they can't be operated via a footswitch yet. Can't imagine it taking too long though.
 18.
I like this response to the original video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv5C8WBnlFc...feature=related Now, that's scary...
That is so uplifting. What joy. Bless the little man. He'll be a monster musician- his ears are already in.
 19.
I thought the purpose of this thread was to talk bollocks not enter into deep discussion on the meaning of over-rated.
Was wondering why you had posted so many comments already
 20. Brilliant! A tad off-topic but still brilliant.
 21.
Hey, does anyone know what what notes Geddy plays in the intro of live versions of this song (can hear it here) that weren't in the original (which can be seen here). I can't seem to figure out exactly what the low ones are with all the distortion and stuff, if he just played octaves it'd go down to a low D (and her plays a 4 string live obviously), does he just hit a low E? I think thats what the synth is playing at this point in the song too. I'll have another look a bit later and post if I can get it. Cheers. Oh yeah by the way, does anyone thing Geddy looks like Yoko Ono in the Tom Sawyer music video? heh.
'Tis the same line apart from a little ad lib but as far as the low pedal note, it's always an E E to E E to D E to A E to C just like the original. Great tunes to play- brings back so many memories of my formative playing years.
