1. If there is an amp provided I will still bring the following: Bass(es) Pedalboard (with wireless, tuner, and two DIs on it!) All the jack leads I need + one spare Speakon lead My own head (becaus it's so small it fits in my bag anyway) Kettle lead Screwdriver Wire cutters Allen keys Fast fret Duct tape!!! This pretty much covers me for any eventuality (plus I just prefer the sound of my own head!) I've not had to fall back on any of my safeguard mechanisms but it's nice to know I have them Funnily enough despite all the things I DO take, I've never taken a spare set of strings! That's gonna bite me in the arse some day..
 2.
I used to use a Boss TU3, does what it's meant to do but it seemed pointless having that and a Zoom B2, if I wanted another tuner it would be another TU3.

Slight alternative take, I bought a Zoom b2 from forum, provides tuner with free effects thrown in, £45 ish if my memory serves me right.
To add to this, the reason I sold my Korg Pitchblack was because I now use the tuner on the Zoom B3
 3.
Dunno the ins and outs but know a few who balanced things like small farms off their day jobs. Basically a decent accountant and keep the receipts for gear. One guy in particular only had a few head of cattle but when the two were put together he only paid a few quid tax. He even swapped jobs, halfed the hours and was no worse off. The only real reason he kept the wifes families farm going was he hated paying tax Basically keeping yourself legit and legal can work in your favour and at the worst HMRC goes and tells you to bugger off it's a hobby, eventually apparently

Not sure if this is what Johnston means, but you could say that bass playing is one of your business activities along with the day job. After factoring in your gear costs plus expenses, you're likely to make a fair loss. this can be offset against any taxable income from your day job, hence lowering your overall tax bill.
interesting... I spend at least 1k a year on my *ahem* business activities.. Might try my luck at claiming GAS as tax deductible
 4. Best of the best are Line 6 ones as mentioned above, and Stageclix. Depends if you can justify paying extra for the Stageclix but in my limited experience they are completely worth it!
 5.
If you do it right you can get a rebate from your day to day earnings.
Tell us more!
 6.
Hello, A lot of venues we are playing at the minute are asking for us to sign receipts for tax purposes. This hasnt happened to us before. What are the implications of not declaring the £50 odd quid a night I make from gigging to the tax man? Do I/We Need to? The £50 odd quid barely covers costs, let alone provides an additional income. Thoughts please!
As illegal as it is, I've never declared any of my takings from gigs either. I get buggered by the tax man from my full time job as it is! They're not touching the odd £35 quid i get ontop every few weeks
 7.
The TC polytune, Korg Pitchblack and Boss TU 3 seem to the the standard answers to this question. I'll leave others to fight it out as to which is best...
This. Korg Pitchblack I think is the cheapest (I sold mine the other week for £45 including postage), and is actually my favourite as it's True Bypass, has the largest display... And its black! They all have a mute function though for silent tuning (or just muting if you need to be silent )
 8.
I also own a big muff pedal. This is everything I have.
I bet that sounds bloody gorgeous Love Precision's in that colour scheme too
 9.
That amp behind you looks like it's putting out a lot of heat. Arf, arf.
Microwaves were more expensive back then
 10.
Could also be if the cabs impedance was a little shy of what the manufacturer claimed, I know this caused issues with some other cabs and Markbass (I think its was EA kit, but I may well be wrong) that was supposed to be *ohm, but in reality was closer to 6Ohm and if you plugged 2 into an LMII it did the full on thermal protection cut out thing. Maybe a dodgy driver in the cab was causing havoc with the impedance (purest conjecture)???
Not sure! Each time I used them they were (practically brand new) rehearsal room cabs, rated at 4 ohms, and I was only turned up to about 10 o clock!. They sounded fine, like nothing sounded broken... Maybe they had blown tweeters in them which caused an impedance issue like you mentioned? Maybe a combination of a few things, who knows! In any case it unfortunately put me off them so I never did swap my Markbass cab for something a little cheaper
 11.
Not forgetting to pierce film before cooking, take out after five minutes, stir, continue for remainder of cooking time - then rest for at least one minute. Audience should be piping hot before serving.
I played a gig at the Asylum in Birmingh last year, the audience really were piping hot, wowee!
 12. Small Stone is, like, totally still for sale!
 13.
yeah it's to do with the phase of frequencies and superposition. the same effect that makes us need to rotate food in the microwave.
I'm now imagining a venue as a giant microwave, with the audience as the food, and the sound waves trying to cook them
 14. I always found phase and flange effects too similar to justify having both for what I want to do. If you use a lot of modulation and stuff like that you will probably be alright with a multi unit. They seem to excel in these areas even if they do mostly have horrible drives
 15. Apologies if this has been posted before. It's Pinn Panelle, peforming a cover of Skrillex's Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites. I'm normally not one for this style of music but this is really something amazing, and shows Nathan Navarro using something I've never seen before called a Hot Hand to control the expression of his effects. Also it seems he stole silddx's idea of wearing gloves! Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuunY8BTqNs
 16.
- Pedals I'm unsure about: PH-2 Phaser, BF-2B Flanger....but will persevere for a bit
] What don't you like about the PH-2? I liked it, but not as much as the EHX Small Stone, which I didn't expect because of how simple it is in comparison! That could be a shameless plug as I'm selling mine
 17.
Just to chuck in my 2 cents the Markbass CMD102p is a cracking amp and would be even if it weighed as much as whale. But amazingly it is ridiculously lightweight! If you want a 2x10 that isn't going to do your back in then it ticks both boxes pretty well: awesome tone, lightweight. It's fairly chunky for a 2x10 so as a plus you'll look awesome effortlessly carrying what to the unknowing eye looks like it should weigh a ton!
+1 to this. My first ever experience with markbass was one of these paired with an STD 102HF, about 5 years ago. First time I ever truly lusted after an amp! I prefer the 1" compression driver to the piezo tweeters though... not to say that they're bad, i've just been spoiled!
 18. Bergantino cabs are held in extremely high regard here, but I thought they were considerably more expensive than Markbass?
 19. Ahh gotcha! I don't like mixing different sized speaker cabinets, changes the sound way too much! There is some sciencey thing to do with frequencies cancelling eachother out too but I fear i might be opening another can of worms if I go into it too much
 20. I've learnt loads from this site... Spent lots too but it's been a blast!
 21. As much as I really hate their heads, I actually love Ashdown's cabs! Get the new head first and go from there
 22.
i think thats what your pretty much talking about right?
Yeah dude, a 6x10 made from my existing 4x10 with a 2x10 on top. can take the smaller cab to rehearsals etc one day it shall be mine!!
 23.
Because, mods on forums aren't generally keen on people advertising without their permission. This is a form of advertising, as it will involve you "liking" their page and adding an app which will be used to... advertise their products. That's kind of how these things work.
Just having somebody from Warwick with the username Warwick_Official could be seen as advertising though surely
 24.
However that power is also quite capable of being detrimental to the final sound if the cab you plug the amp into really cant cope with it, and IME of trying out MB cabs a 5 stringer can exceed the capabilites of the cabs to deal with the power of the more powerful amps, and things can defintely start to suffer as a result, I would however, love to have a go with one of the really big MB heads through a Barefaced BigTwin. That may well cause damage to internal organs!
That would explain why every time I used an Ashdown 4x10 my amp went into thermal protection mode and switched itself off
