Welcome, neighbour! I am also looking to upgrade to a substantial 6 string bass and a pair of 1x12 cabs. ...and so it begins...
I'm not sure that I see the problem with Kanye headlining Glastonbury. It's a popular music festival, he's a popular music performer, and surely any festivalgoer looking for something less mainstream won't be at the main stage for much of the festival anyway. Yet I keep seeing petitions urging the Glasto organisers to cancel his slot, as though it was some sort of betrayal of Glastonbury principles. Am I missing something?
Didn't they go through all that a few years ago when J-Zed was on?
I'm always bemused when [s]bands[/s] guitarists don't consider or even know what else they are playing with...
Fixed?
This person thinks: Yes, you are mad. Save yourself £1200 and get a Sire MM V7 instead. It won't make you sound like Marcus Miller in just the same way as this bass won't make you sound like Adam Clayton, but it's much better value for money.
I suppose not sounding like Adam Clayton carries a premium.

The question is does a 1x15 on top of a 2x10 sound different from a 2x10 on top of a 1x15, not whether a 1x15 sounds different from a 2x10...
I like it too... but I hate signature basses, I'd be much more likely to buy one if it didn't have his name on it.

How much is one like that?
An extra £250

I was trawling Bandmix/Join My Band/Gumtree a few days ago and I'm pretty sure I came across a "mature" Medway band seeking a bass player!
I've decided to go back to EADG so have this set of strings going for free if you want to try them ras52
Thanks for the offer Ant... as it happens, since this thread started, I've "gone five", so there may be no turning back!

Probably more of a suck-it-and-see scenario than a dilemma, but excuse me while I think aloud... As a 50-something divorced dad with a day job and a parenting schedule that makes me unavailable for rehearsing/gigging every other weekend, I’m in no position to join a busy ambitious band. My creative urges have recently been channelled into songwriting, but my itchy bass fingers want more than just playing on my demos. So I want to find a playing opportunity independent of the writing, which I still want to pursue as my main creative venture. Yes, I know, I want it all So after a trawl of Bandmix/Join my band/Gumtree, I’ve found a couple of local bands who’ve invited me down for a mutual check-out. I’ve been upfront about my restricted availability. Band 1: a classic rock covers band, who seem to be of my era. Their repertoire includes Bowie, Queen, Floyd, which is all good for me. The also do All Right Now This band has been doing pub gigs for a while, and is currently off-road pending the arrival of a new bass player. The leader also has another band. Band 2: Indie originals, advertised for someone aged 30+. “influences including Smiths, Cure, Suede, Keane, Band of Horses, Blur”, so the generation after mine. No gigs yet, but there’s a SoundCloud page of well-recorded full-band songs, with bass lines that aren’t just root notes Now, if it were up to me, I’d be playing original weird stuff with some eclectic obscure covers thrown in, so neither band is a box-ticker on that front, but for me this will about the joy of playing live. In that context, I’m leaning toward Band 1, as its goals seem more in keeping with mine, i.e. taking it seriously but doing it for fun. Of course they will probably both tell me to eff off after we meet.

Lost dogs - basses you wish you could buy back... Have you got it now?
A fretless Wal custom Mk1, it had birdseye maple facings and an unlined ebony fingerboard. It looked and sounded beautiful, but I got bored with bassplaying when the band I was in split so I traded it for a red strat and a vox at a shop (Kings Music?) in Sunderland in 1989 just before I left home. I should have been hit over the head with a stocking full of sh*t! I miss it more than Fleagle the beagle, who obviously was a dog, and my best friend!
I feel your pain. I did the same with pretty much the same bass, but with different facings. Fingerboard was only lined as far as the E string. Got rid of my fretted Pro IIE at the same time. D'oh! -
Just as well the Beatles weren't that popular, otherwise we'd all be playing those dreadful Hofner violin basses.
Or even worse, R*ck*nb*ck*rs.
Haha, yeah, I get ya, bud, fair do's. Er, I hope that the fretless 5-er on which you've set your heart isn't the Mayones Jabba Custom fretless 5-er from Italy...which I've been playing since about 10 o'clock this morning...?
Nope, it was a new Ibanez SRF705... but then I got distracted by the GWB35 in the marketplace for just about the amount of cash I had in my Ibby-Fretless fund. So have an everything-falling-into-place bump on me! -
The concluding sentence is interesting: "The act of putting an electric piano together with a cowbell and a 120BPM disco beat would need to have been judged a creative act in itself, making instrumentation and possibly even genre into protectable Intellectual Property. Which would have had massive implications for future creators of music".
So would they have been safe if they had used LESS COWBELL?

Darn, sorta wishing I went now All being well, I'll shortly be free of bass gas, which can only mean one thing: amp and cab gas!
Oh dear
I'm sure they were misquoted. What they actually said was, although we're big fans of Marvin Gaye, neither of us had actually heard that track until people starting pointing out the similarities. Spooky!
