Bass Guitar Magazine - Column about Basschat
ras52 replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in General Discussion
Firstly I'm guessing Bluejay is a sensible person Secondly I'm guessing the BC heads are informed and will agree to whatever it is Bluejay is going to do Fourthly therefore we should wait and see what happens before being to cynical Someone think of a thirdly please
Thirdly I think no one's going to quote a bassist who can't count. :-D -
As somebody who is part robot, I find the insinuation offensive. Quitting Basschat.
Byeee! Just leave your hands behind, please.
Great review! If only Sire did a P-bass...
...I'd be £300 poorer :-D
-
Yes, that's what we will be using the robot hands for on the internet....
I'm amazed that you, er, beat Discreet to that one...

That looks - and sounds - lovely. Must keep repeating to self: I don't like Jazzes... I don't like Jazzes....
That's definitely more than £37.99 worth of repairs right there! They must be having a laugh! One for the log fire...
I'm slightly concerned by "There are scuffs and signs of use around the finish." but it looks OK otherwise.

Thanks for all the input, I'll give the Stagg a go.

Bought a lovely BB425 from Mark. Very quick to respond to my messages, and came to find me when I ended up knocking on the wrong door (my mistake, not his!) Proceed with confidence!
I bought one of these... compact, adjustable and stable. Works well.
What size cab do you use it with? And do you lose any low end by not being in contact with the floor? I was looking at one of these: http://standback.net/ but I'm a bit sceptical regarding its stability - my cab would need to be over 45 degrees back to shift the centre of gravity to behind the rear edge,
My mate got one of these. For a £90 geet it's the bollocks. Wilkinson pick ups , looks pretty too. Sounds real good! http://www.thomann.d...bk_egitarre.htm
Argh, why did I start following this thread? I'm after one of these http://www.thomann.de/gb/standback_ampstand.htm which don't seem to be available in the UK, but the thought of paying 10EUR shipping when the thing is only 24EUR is somewhat grating... so my twisted logic says, spend more money to save that 10EUR! Trouble is I'd still be 50EUR short even if I added one of those babies

As mentioned, the pitfall with lined is that you may be tempted to rely on your eyes rather than your ears. My solution to this is to practice with my eyes shut! Once your head (and ears) has bought into the concept of playing fretless, lined/unlined becomes a largely aesthetic issue. I don't quite get the "dots are in the wrong place" argument, as they're also in the "wrong" place on a fretted, i.e. behind the optimal pressure point of right behind the fret. How about starting with a low-priced but excellent-value specimen like a Yamaha? Oddly, there seems to be one for sale at the moment (looks down at sig...)

What do you find at the end of a ledge?
ras52 replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That's certainly different from what Henry Cow found at the end of a leg: -
Price drop: £150 * SOLD * In with the fives, out with the fours! Factory-fretless lined P/J in red. Controls: volume and tone pots, plus three-way p/u selector switch. This came to with a fair bit of fingerboard-chewing due to being played with roundwounds. I took it to Sims Custom for a re-shoot, and they did a superb job. Since then it's suffered one little scuff on the side near the 9th “fret” - see photo. Battle-scar nicks and scratches as per the photos. Currently strung with flats of unknown origin, can be supplied with rounds if you prefer. I’d much prefer to avoid couriers: I’m in Bromley (SE London/Kent), work in Central London (Chancery Lane), and am a regular visitor to Tonbridge, Kent, so would ideally meet a buyer in or near one of those places. Trades: really looking for cash (I already have something else incoming!), but would consider trades or part-trades for a fretless 5-string. Always great to hear again - nearly 43 years later!!
Fireball is my favourite album of theirs though it rarely gets mentioned for some strange reason, it's always "In Rock" & "Machinehead" that get all the glory.
I inherited my older sister's vinyl copy. It has a lovely airy organic sound, and was one of the first albums that showed me that "hard rock" bass didn't just have to be dum-dum-dum-dum. -
So I currently have 3 fewer votes than a track that doesn't exist...
It's not over until the female with the high BMI vocalises... On first listen I've whittled it down to, er, 7 or 8. One of the nice things about the SoundCloud playlist is I let it run in a background tab where I could only see the first word of the title - so I don't yet know who each track is by. Rob, you may be on my shortlist
anyone know what 'The Birdie Song' was written about?
The Tweets were ahead of the curve in more ways than one. Not only did they foresee the rise of social media, they were also advertising butter way before Johnny Rotten. They were engaged in a marketing campaign by the French butter magnate Marcel Isson, hence their hymn to the "beurre d'Isson".
A classic! And incidentally, for every Made in Japan lover there's a Machine Head purist. Yawn.
...and they're both wrong, as it's Fireball all the way -
Bought some strings from John, no problems, all done swiftly and smoothly.
If they can get John Entwistle I'll be there like a flash ...
He's dead against that sort of thing. (Though I remember him at the Bass Centre weekend back in... late 80s?)
-
Fair enough. Probably calls for a poll ("do you never play sitting down?") but frankly don't care, can't be arsed...
"I play my Rickenbacker sitting down with my music stand in front of me..."
McBass ‘Hoodoo Voodoo’ won't play for me, throws up an error on soundcloud. Don't want to vote without hearing each track!
Hm, not in the playlist either.... is it private?
I think its cool to own a lot of stuff for sure. I'm the first to admit. Wondering how many of them do i actually NEED : probably 4.... 1 P with rounds / one with flats / jazz with rounds / Fretless something
Why P with flats but not J with flats?
