Hand positioning is completely different when at the dusty end compared to when stretched out near the headstock.

I preferred the white ones for feel, and they are a little brighter. Still very nice strings though.

Very kind. I’m in East Mids.

I might have to have a day trip out somewhere. Andertons have the Energy and the Pure at their warehouse. I wonder if they would get them into the shop for me to try.

I'll never afford one but I can't wait to see them all photographed for the sale.

I'm thinking about these. I emailed MB to ask more about the differences and apparently the Energy model is closer in tone to the older cabs and I do like them. The Energy 2x10 is about 500g heavier. Nowt in it really. I can't tell the difference in the cabs via youtube though. Must be very subtle. I do really like my little Barefaced Stack of One10 and One10T but I'm gassing for a change back to the Black & Yellow. Did you guys try the different 2x10 ones before settling on the Pure?

I've got some PJ. No just P though.

Seriously though - I've never tried a GR Bass amp. But the demos don't seem to have a warm sound like the MB stuff does so well. I live my MB AG1000, but I'd like to try the Little Mark Tube or the Vintage head too.

I nearly wrote that! ha hahahahaha!

I get the feeling that it is the UK end of things letting them down too. What did Ed Friedland say?
-
That’s awesome.

Nice looking video. Not sure if it's a youtube issue but the bass sound seems really compressed when I listen to it - studio monitors, not my phone!

String gauge drop / Lighter gauge strings
fretmeister replied to BassAdder60's topic in Accessories and Misc
I like equal bendiness / resistance feel under the right hand. So for years I used to do something like 40-60-85-105 as I felt the E and to a smaller extent the A to feel a bit too bendy under the right hand. I'm sure the tension of a set like that is very different across the board, but the feel was more balanced. -

40-100 would be light! 45-100 would be a hybrid really. Depends on the bass really. I usually have 40-100 on Jazz types, but at the moment I've got heavier flats on it. -
Quilter Bass Block 800 is 7.9 inches wide Their 802 is 8.5 inches wide Both discontinued now, but apparently some shops have a few left.

I think we have a winner though... 5.04 inches wide. 12.8cm

Markbass Nano Mark 2 is 8.7 inches wide https://www.markbass.it/wp-content/uploads/nano_mark_ii_front_web.png__1980x1980_q85_subsampling-2-e1656074497408-1536x376.png

I like this approach too. Vocalists usually have spent the least. Sometimes not even a solitary microphone!

I must try a Reidmar at some point. If anyone is looking for a cracking amp, there is a Mark Bass AG1000 Andrew Gouche sig model in the classifieds. I have one of those and it's a great amp. Excellent EQ.

Unless there's an agreement that a buyout will be based on new prices, that buyout will be based on used valuations. This is why whenever I've been in a joint-purchase situation I've insisted on us all buying a specific item of the kit. So 1 person bought the desk, 1 person bought the speakers etc etc so that one person could leave with the thing they 100% owned. Everyone stored their own bit. No arguments.

Definitely have to set the sounds at full gig volume. Nothing else works. Good thing about modern modelling units is that there is enough memory to actually save venue specific patches. Massively speeds up sound check on the day. In the old days we did that with a little black book of settings or a venue, now we can just hit "Dog & Duck" patches and be done with it. Even better if the FOH desk has memory slots too. Saying all that though... I'd use a keyboard for 99% of synth sounds.

I've read about problems with the 500W models too - but none about the 900W ones. Personally I'd get the bigger one for peace of mind.

Pick or Fingers … ongoing dilemma!!
fretmeister replied to BassAdder60's topic in Theory and Technique
I ruptured a tendon in my right middle finger and while it was in a split for a year I learned how to play bass with a pick. I'm still not a massive fan but now I'm competent. I can sing and play much better when I'm using a pick. Probably because it is so similar to when I was playing guitar and fronting a band. I really don't like the raspy noise of pick against roundwound strings though. -
I've just found this thread. I was looking at the Venture 2x12 and was amazed to discover that it doesn't have wheels! I know 40lb isn't the heaviest cab in the world, but for a tall cab wheels just make everything so much easier to deal with. I'm not sure the sticky-Out knobs is a particular issue. 99% of amps have them and they are fine as long as it's built right behind the front panel. Anyone got one now? I'm getting a bit of an itch to change my amp and I'm liking the demos, but that might be because I'm not in a band at the moment and I'm getting GAS instead! Always happens to me when I'm not gigging! I seem to be craving that Ampeg sound at the moment.
