  1. I think with zero frets, an idea I wish was used more often, the nut height is set for you. My Sadowsky has an “adjust a nut”, ie two little screws to adjust the height. Otherwise it’s nut files and a feeler gauge.
  2. I only have imperial feeler gauges so I set 10-12 thou relief at 7th fret and 2/32in on the G,fretted at the first fret, and 3/32in on the E or B on my five string. Pretty much fender or Sadowsky specs I think. Nut height is 3 thou at first fret with string fretted on the third.
  3. I’ve recently recorded Truckin’, Franklin’s Tower, Sugar Magnolia and Touch of Grey for an album project. first half here I was never really a DeadHead but really liked Jerry’s melodic guitar playing and the whole hippy Californian: hey it’s all going to be cool, tune in turn on trip out vibe(see also Spirit)! However having learned these tunes I’ve also discovered what a lovely melodic bass player Phil Lesh is.
  4. I heard rumours of a 5 string Electra TT ?
  5. Funny that. the one in Glasgow that I tried back in August was noisy and the guy there said that they were still all like that. He’d said that they’d sent all the first batch back because they were crap and his was a new one. The one I finally bought from Thomann a couple of weeks ago however was absolutely fine.
  6. Thank you Sir My wife said something similar about a sharp intake of breath when I got the credit card bill.
  7. It’s a Sadowsky Metro Express
  8. First gig with the Metro Express last night. Really enjoyed it. I think it sat very well in the mix, was easy to get the sounds I wanted and it suits the type of stuff that we play: soul/jazz/funk.
  9. First gig with the Tesco Express. Really pleased with it
  10. I was tempted by that colour but it didn’t look as nice on Thomann’s site. From everything that I’ve read, and there’s been lots, JJ seemed the best option, plus I’m a big Jazz bass fan. I emailed thomann to see if it was the latest batch with no noise issues and they confirm that it was. I’d definitely check first with whoever you wish to buy from. https://m.thomann.de/gb/sadowsky_metroexpress_21_5_vintage_obmp.htm?o=1&search=1632071111
  11. I read that Roger said thathe has the pickups wound by Dimarzio or EMG on the NYC ones.
  12. My one has pickups and tuners with "Sadowsky" on them. I notice that the Metro Express bridge looks different to the Metroline one, however all works well. I'm very pleased with it.
  13. I played this last night for a couple of hours at a band rehearsal and was very pleased with it. That preamp is quite hot but really nice sounding and controllable once you get the hang of it. Nice even tone across the strings and punches well in a band mix. I did find some slightly rough fret ends when sliding up the neck so I’ll get busy with a fret file on those when I change the rather crappy supplied strings at the weekend.
  14. Yes I thought about getting a water slide Sadowsky logo but annoyingly the Tesco Express badge is in the way. The gig bag is alright but I probably wouldn’t spend £80-90 on it which I think they are as a standalone. It came with Allen keys and a little bar thingy for the truss rod adjuster, plus it’s fitted with set of Sadowsky strap locks, although these are a bit bigger than Shallers I use, so changed both bits over as included in the bag.
  15. Good probably about the same as my Mex p and less than my US Jazz
  16. Mine arrived today from Thomann. Out of the box it was very nice, after a quick set up (allen keys and truss-rod bar included), it was lovely. Will probably replace those strings with a set of Fat Beams though. I second the very helpful review from @BassAgent above. Thank you for your encouragement to go ahead with this. It plays well, no sharp frets, well finished and crucially no noise ! Thepickups and preamp are really quiet on all settings, in fact it was quieter than the one that I tried in Guitarguitar recently, so possibly a newer one. He told there's was a later model and they all sound like that. Hmmm! Slight negatives are the hardware does have a bit of a "Far Eastern" feel, (well it is) and there is a big drop in gain from active to passive. To be expected I suppose, however I can't see me using passive much unless the battery dies. Rehearsal tonight so I'll give it a proper test.
  17. Open to sensible offers on this as I need to move it on due to serious GAS
  18. Essex Amp Repairs also repairs instruments I believe
  19. Selling this as it hasn’t seen much action action since I got my Sadowsky. Price reduced to £500:00. It’s in excellence condition and was originally a rather horrible blue burst colour. It had been stripped and nicely oil finished when I got it. It’s a later model USA made one which I think came just before the Cirrus. Controls are separate volume and blend knobs with stacked pots for treble/bass mid/mid sweep. The mid sweep is brilliant for quick tone changes. Overall it’s in great condition for an early’90s(?) bass. There is a little nick on the back of the neck by the heel and the gold hardware is showing signs of wear and tear. The stacked knobs look newer. I replaced the bass/treble one a few years ago and although everything works fine the mid/sweep one has lost it’s centre detents and will howl if turned up full. Otherwise the electrics are all quiet and the tonal range of this instrument is great. It hasn’t been gigged much. I have the original Peavey hard case, included in sale, but it came pretty battered with damaged corners and lives under the bed. I’ve used another cheap hard case It’s quite a beast; I reckon 10-11lbs, but quite well balanced and comfy on a wide strap and really nice to play, lowish action and nicely finished neck. Prefer not to post but you’re welcome to come and try it, although now I have a big box from Thomann, due to NBD on Wednesday, I'd be happy to courier this in the UK for cost. Specs: Maple body Through neck ebony fretboard pearl markers 34” scale 3 band eq 9v 24 frets 48mm nut string spacing about 18mm.
  20. The one I tried was very light, possibly lighter than my 4 string US Jazz. I’d quite like one of these now and will probably buy one when funds allow
  21. Quite right but just to confuse matters I recently bought some of this: WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner 400ml (toolstation.com)
