1. Nice one. Maybe i should start loking in their shops. some pics would be nice tho. Dave
2. Buy it for me then. I'll be happy with that. Dave
3. My 5 string NG2 is the nicest 5 string neck i've played altho current band don't need a 5 string. Wouldn't part with it tho. Dave
4.
I don't need a motorbike. My other hobby is driving trains for a heritage railway. 266 Litre diesel engine this weekend
Now i'm jealous. That sounds like great fun. Dave
5.
Have you ever been down to my town Bridgnorth? the Severn Valley Railway is fantastic, mostly steam but does have a few diesels, and my local is The Railwayman's Arms which is on the platform of Bridgnorth station and is quite unique as it has never closed since it first opened in 1861. 6. I'm the youngest in our band at 57 and like most people have a few health issues altho nothing i can't work around. I was playing with a Glam Rock covers band and when i retired at 56 i thought this would help take up some of my free time. I've never played in a band that gigs 2-3 times a week and found it too demanding on my free time. I gave that up and now play with a group of guys that range from me at 57 to guitarist at 70. They nearly all play in at least 1 -2 other bands and show no signs of slowing up. We intend gigging maybe once a month or thereabouts so no pressure at all. I'm lovin it. Bands are and always have been a hobby for me and never a job and when it feels like a job then its time to change things. I now have my free time to spend on other hobbies and keeping myself a little fit without going daft ie cycling, exercise training and walking all dependant on weather. During summer i am out in garden pottering around. Don't give up. Try and find like minde musicians in your area and even just go along for a jam session. Dave
7. Took delivery of one of Eddie's 2x10 cabs today and it sounds absolutely fantastic. Little deeper than my TE 2x10 but its far better built and the mids to hi-end is pretty sharp and clear using a GK1001RBii Condition is like new so if you are thinking about the other cab you won't be disappointed with the sound and the condition Eddie keeps his gear in. Great transaction and no issues. Eddie is one of the true gents on BC so buy with 110% confidence. Thanks again Eddie Dave
8. Bought Orange 2x10 cab from Eddie. He agreed to split the cabs for me as i was only looking for one to match my 115 cab. Fantastic price and he went the full hog and arranged a courier for me as well. Comms was perfect and he did exactly what he said he would and cab arrived when he said it would. Took me 15mins to unpack the cab. It was so well packaged there was absolutely no risk of damage in transit. Must have cost a fortune in bubble wrap. Cab is in perfect as new condition and sounds fantastic on its own. Can highly recommend Eddie. Wish all sellers were this good. Doesn't get any better than this. Deal in absolute confidence. All the best Eddie. Hope you get the new rig you're looking for. Dave
9. Orange OBC115 gave me that depth of sound that's been missing from my tone for many years. Probably since using 10's and 12's on their own or lightweight cabs. OBC115 is a solid reasonably heavy but liftable proper bass cab that just does what its meant to do. Provide low down depth for a bass. Dave
10.
So he does.Times change.I thought orange was the least popular bass gear? https://m.facebook.c...9060246/?type=3
Not sure why you think that ? Geddy Lee, Glenn Hughes and Steve Harris can't be wrong ??? Dave
11. Damn i missed this one. Was in few weeks ago trying out a Fender Precision Deluxe PJ and guy (think it was Paul) was very friendly, helpful and chatty. Not pushy and not trying to show off with the bass i was wanting to look at which was just quite refreshing change. He set the amp up flat, plugged the bass in, tuned it for me, set the controls all flat, explained what they all did and left me to it. Came back 10-15mins later and asked what i thought started chatting and he asked if i had tried a few other manufacturers which he brought over. It was a good experience all round. Not the cheapest shop to be honest but you do get to try the bass you buy rather than on-line. All good news for Glasgow Dave
12. Nationwide would need to be more central rather than 400miles away in London. Its not even central for England let alone UK. I usually visit my local bash in Moffat when i can. Like the idea of Manchester as its reasonably easy to get to and a bit more central. We've discussed one up here in Scotland but somewhere more central between Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth and Inverness but seemed to fade away like a lot of the great ideas. I guess someone really needs to have the time and effort to make it happen rather than talk about it ...........ah well maybe someday Dave
13. Not sure if its been suggested before and might just be too big for the forum but what about a venue list divided into either areas or types of band kinda thing. Perhaps mentioning size of venue and whether they require booking via agents etc. I hear a lot of bands asking what places to play in a specific area. Just a thought. Worthwhile or not ??? Dave
14. Summer Nights - Grease Someone was gonna mention it Dave
15. Yep caught a bit of it and not for me either. All a bit drab and turned it back off. Missed Sparks which would have been a highlight. By sound of it maybe the only one for me. Dave
16. Altho i'm not a huge fan i'd recommend Ashdown combo of some kind. They do what they say they'll do. Maybe even a 2nd hand Trace Elliot combo. Hartke gear i'm not a fan either but they do make some good gear that many people like and swear by them. Laney gear is ok for home use too altho don't have much experience with them. Peavey is another option. You don't specify a budget or what your intention is ie home use or plan to eventually gig so difficult making a decent suggestion. Can you offer more details for others to comment on. Dave
17.
Do all Precisions sound the same? They can do. If that's what you want, but listen to JJ Burnell and Bob Babbitt and you'll hear that Precision basses will also let you sound totally unique. If you are a "no style" amateur player, a "meat and potatoes" semi pro player or a top pro player a P bass let's you shine. That's pretty impressive for a bass that "sounds the same". The question is, is using a P bass a bad thing if the spread of tone is so limited? With many of the hit and successful records of the last 60 years being recorded on P basses, and the high percentage of touring bands out there today using P basses it seems that using a P bass was and is still a good thing. I guess all those players might be thinking they sound different to the next guy or they'd probably be playing something else.
That's a great VID comparison. I could clearly hear the diferences in basses and personal fav was the MIJ on the isolated track but when it came to the full band sound the Larkin seemed to be very slightly clearer but they all sounded pretty much the same and so difficult to tell between them. IMHO that is. Thanks for posting Dave
18. My wife goes to all gigs. She historically has played a part doing the lighting desk and effects etc in rock or Prog bands. She enjoys the same music as me and altho she has had to sit on her own during the gig she doesn't seem to mind. We do tend to do everything together even outside the band, cycling, hill walking, gardening, motorbikes and even shopping so its kind of expected from both of us and after 28yrs together we must be doing something right. Edit to add that if i was playing twice a week she might decide it was too much for her and i wouldn't object if she wanted to stay at home more. Dave
19. Has anyone tried these cabs with a GK1001RBii ? I've just bought an Orange 2x10 mini cab from fellow BC'er EddieHoffman to match my Orange OBC115. Due next week. Gonna be few weeks before i get a chance due to band holidays and was just wondering how they would pair up. If not i might well look at a AD200b head at some point. Dave
20. Yep been round the houses too and always same bass i go back to. My Jazz is my normal goto bass when its my own choice. My Warwick Thub nicest bass to play but Jazz fits most styles better. Currently having to use a Fender PJ because of the style of music and covers it gives more variation but still 4 string. Done the 6, 5, fretless but back to 4 fretted is the simple way. I should make that my new motto :- Keep It Simple Dave
21.
Singing and playing bass has always been a huge challenge for me. I'm getting better and the separation from my fingers and voice is getting a lot better. I don't have a great voice, however my band has allowed me free reign with backing vocals. Because we gig a lot, I've had the opportunity to really work on this. I still have a lot of room for improvement. I really like singing and being on the front line. Any stories about singing and playing bass you guys care to share? Blue
Is that you in attachment Blue ? You certainly don't look your age sir. Well done. Must be all that good living Dave
22.
Wire wool is good on Warwick frets - I find Dettox spray good for cleaning off dirt
I tend to use a little bit of brasso wadding (use to be duraglit) on my warwick frets. Not heavy hande but just enough to clean them as they do dull down and tarnish a bit. Luthier in Edinburgh at McIntyre Guitars told me to use Briwax on my Thumb NT instead of warwick beeswax as it isn't sticky and gives a nice clean and smooth polish. Dave
23. I bought one 2nd hand bass that had smell of cigerette smoke and it took several cleans to finally get rid of it but other than that one i've not had any bad experiences. I completely clean top to bottom when i change strings and usually wipe the bass down during and after a gig especially if sweating. Like to keep the neck and strings dry and clean when playing. Dave
24. I've always been told within few days and only time i didn't get it i already new. When i was setting up my gear at the audition the band were quite happy to tell me the guy just before me was ideal for the job and would fit in really well. Bit of a damper for me and i kinda lost interest and thought they were a bunch of arrogant twats. They did however contact me a year later to ask if i was still interested as the guy they picked left for another band. I enjoyed telling them where to go and why. Courtesy costs nothing and most bands i've auditioned with have been straight up front and let me know there and then i had the job. I'm not the best bass player in the world but i am generally well liked socially and always respect people for who they are so i guess that always helps. Dave
