read all TP's books so much I can almost quote em now, My favourite author!
I'd never read anything of TP's until about 10 years ago. Some of my friends used to call me 'Weatherwax' and wouldn't tell me why. One of them eventually let on who 'Weatherwax' was so I bought Wyrd Sisters to find out. I really can't be having some of my friends.
Love the Dark Morris with its prog time sig, and also We Shall Wear Midnight, which makes me sniff!
I found The Dark Morris Song on YouTube last night - I was wearing headphones and almost fell off of my chair! Looking forward to hearing the rest of it.
Yes yes yes! Got it the other week just after finishing the Tiffany Aching books, by and large a cracking album (a couple of forgetable tracks on there IMO, but still getting a lot of playtime at the moment). The Wee Free Men track's absolutely cracking. Crivens!
I've read loads TP books, but the Tiffany Aching ones I've somehow missed. I'll have to keep an eye open for them. I'm wondering if there's going to be a crossover here - Pratchett fans getting into Steeleye and vice versa.
I think the bass player is that well-known Terry Pratchett lookalike, Rick Kemp.
It is. Met him at a folk festival about 20 years ago, very nice bloke.

Well I never! Steeleye Span and Terry Pratchett! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ6QgOA1pj4 Seems like Chris Tsangarides is the producer and having worked with acts like Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Gary Moore, this is gonna be folk rock with the emphasis on ROCK! Headphones and plenty of volume... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfEUBJLZSHw

To modify or to not modify..............advice needed

Equipment is only one part of the equation when you've got a sound 'in your head'. Playing style, feel and technique are equally important. -

I just chose a phrase from a General Discussion topic. If I just typed it into the search box and clicked the button, I ended up with a few results, but not the one I was looking for. I then tried it in the Advanced Search, gave it a clue (i.e. look in General Discussion) and it found the post. So... the 'plain' Search doesn't work particularly well as it has a limited criteria to search by, but the 'Advanced' one (with an extra 'clue') seemed to work well enough.

I struggled with this as well. My solution was to practice playing with my second finger on it's own until it felt comfortable and I could play the notes cleanly. It took a few weeks until it felt 'right' and then I bought my first finger back into play. Problem sorted.

Importing an amp from overseas (US) - wise or not?
icastle replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
Blimey, I've only ever had a shaver that could do that!
I'm a disposable razor man myself, saves on bathroom confusion and foamy amps. -
I can't see me ever owning one as I'm not a great fan of the styling (and I'm a fickle git ), but the BB range has been around for well over 30 years now, which it certainly wouldn't be if the demand for it wasn't there. From what I remember of them back then, it was one of the biggest sellers in the music shop I worked in back in the 80's, beaten only by the Westone Thunder 1A.

You then pour yourself a glass of Pinot and sit back, content in the knowledge of a job well done.

One day I'll get my brick built barn renovated and have a permanent and safe place to be able to leave gear out, but until that happens, all of mine live in hard cases unless I'm using them.
For some reason, I can't view anything that's posted on Photobucket on my laptop or mobile. Any suggestions on how to cure this?
It's a commonly reported problem with Photobucket hosted images - loads of talk but no real answers. Someone has suggested that Javascript needs to be enabled, so worth trying that perhaps. -

Voltage wise, the RH450 is advertised as being able to run on anything from 100V to 230V without changing anything internally or externally. The only real issue I can see is if the UK service agent treats the amp as a grey import and refuses to honour the warranty. -
thanks for that...any idea of the numbers for example 7250 v 9050?
Yep. 7150 - Nickel 7250 - Nickel Plated Steel 8250 - Nickel Plated Steel (Taperwound E & B Strings) 9050 - Stainless Steel Flatwound

Connecting gear: small mixer or DI box
icastle replied to The Twickerman's topic in Accessories and Misc
This generally happens when you connect two items to a single channel input. Using DI boxes won't help because you're still running both items to the same point. Best bet is to use a little mixer. -

If it's the same song each time then rehearse it out or simplify the arrangement and work upwards from there. If it's different things each time you either need to live with it, rehearse more or change guitarists. -
Around 30 years ago I was a full time musician. It was hard work, but it paid the bills and got me on the housing ladder. The turning point for me was going on tour and waking up in yet another facsimile hotel room and not knowing which town I was in. I finished the tour and called it a day. The intervening years were good, I had an aptitude for managing highly complex IT projects, and this served me well until I was made redundant. The whole Jobcentre thing never sat particularly well with me and a disagreement with them in the latter part of last year has put me right back in the industry I left 30 years ago. As a 'musical tart' I'll play anything for anyone, provided I'm getting paid for it, and when I'm not playing I grab any smelly/grotty/dangerous job going to earn a few extra £'s. As much as I enjoy playing, first opportunity I get to relegate it back to 'paid hobby' status, I'm going to do it.

Opinions on talking to audience between songs
icastle replied to bonzodog's topic in General Discussion
If the whole band is funny and bounce well off each other then you're on a winner.
^ This. In my current line up of bands I consider myself to be really fortunate. We've never argued or fallen out and we've all become really good friends as opposed to a bunch of guys who only meet up to play. The danger with that is often that friendship can impede development, but with 150 years of playing time behind us, I think we're pretty much where we're going to get to. We all have a bit of a 'reputation' as far as humour is concerned and that really shines through. We always get repeat bookings... if only to apologise for the previous gig. -
Opinions on talking to audience between songs
icastle replied to bonzodog's topic in General Discussion
I play in several bands and it varies from band to band and venue. In the folk band there is a lot of interaction with the audience, it's expected and, with our regular followers, the interaction between band members and audience is part of the show. In the functions band, playing in a pub - yes, it's another way of getting audience participation and people are specifically there to see us. If we're playing a function, that changes. We're there to play dance music, not to steal the show from whatever function it is.
