  1. [quote name='Myke' timestamp='1393363259' post='2379442'] I normally cut them a just over a fingers length away from the tuning pegs but only after bending the string 90degrees. [/quote] [quote name='HowieBass' timestamp='1393363940' post='2379458'] You want about three wraps of string around the tuning peg and on a headstock like a Fender that works out to be a length of string beyond the peg that's equivalent to about the distance between three pegs. The string should coil downwards around the peg as you wind; make sure you don't wrap a string over itself as you wind. [/quote] ^ These.
  2. My ESP 6 is a little on the quiet side as well. I just stick one of those Fishman preamps into the cable path to give it an extra kick.
  3. Perhaps your cache got corrupted and it defaulted to something other than what you originally chose? That might explain how toggling between full and mobile versions cleared the bogus theme.
  4. Mine hasn't changed either.
  5. [quote name='discreet' timestamp='1393191760' post='2377251'] Every bass I'm handed by someone else to play is [i]always [/i]at least a foot too high up - not because I play in a low-slung rock stylee, but because my strap has to be quite long so as to accommodate my muscular frame. [/quote] Couldn't you just take it off and prop it up in the corner?
  6. [quote name='ChaosAD' timestamp='1393115454' post='2376451'] So far I have got her practicing basic patterns to get her finger strength up for hammer on's. I am also planning to have her practicing pull off's with different finger combinations but, aside from that, I am not sure where to go. [/quote] Sounds like you're doing all the right things to me. Don't know if you're seen a bassist called Bill Clements playing, but he does with one hand what many bass players would struggle to do with two. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5ThulqDmKc
  7. It's the same solution as all the others - just toggle back to simple view before clicking the quote button. As for BC being the only site it happens on, it's not (I've given up trying to use ITV.COM for example). It's to do with the way that IE11 renders certain pieces of code - instead of adhering to the W3 standards like other browser manufacturers so, they decided to make some minor changes to it. Not all sites use the same code, so some will work happily, some will struggle and some will just crash and die. Fortunately, the developers at Invision added the 'simple editor' facility to ensure that things would carry on working 'no matter what'. The issues will be resolved eventually, so hang on in there - alternatively try one of the 'other' browsers. I'm an IE user as well and have no wish to change, but I installed Firefox for BC use as they stick to the standards instead of making their own.
  8. The whole 'old Fenders sound better' thing was more of a reaction to the takeover of the business by CBS than anything else - big corporations just weren't cool. I can remember people stating that '70's strats are sh*t', but 40 years on and people are raving over those same strats. Interestingly, it seems that the majority of people who can 'hear the difference' between an aged Fender and a new one are those who have just spent £14K on an old one... difference or self justification? Not an easy one to answer without p*ss*ng people off.
  9. [quote name='muttley' timestamp='1392814162' post='2372983'] Not forgetting Gerald Veasley and Gary Willis (Welcome to Jazz Club. Niiiiice). [/quote] I was just basing that on hair length and scowls.
  10. [quote name='OldG' timestamp='1392829215' post='2373222'] Cool, thanks in advance - I'll stop pestering now... [/quote] Not a problem. It's always useful to know what features people want. We can't always deliver them, but we always take note and try to where possible.
  11. That looks OK to me.
  12. I'm afraid that even I sometimes forsake IE and use Firefox.
  13. I've had an SR505 for about 15 years (I think!). I've a number of basses to choose from, but my SR is my 'go to' bass for most things - my musical safety blanket. A little bit heavier and neck wide compared to the SR500, but if you're after a slim necked bass, the SR's are certainly going to meet that criteria. Not sure where it came from, but they're credited with having the fastest slimmest necks of any production bass. It's got a good range of sounds as well, although the Ibanez artist list does give the impression that their use is limited to various genres of rock.
  14. [quote name='TimR' timestamp='1392747585' post='2372304'] Seems a lot of people are concerned about running power all over the stage, which is a problem with both setups if you're using stage lights. I've made some 4way black extension leads with 1m leads. Then I have a bunch of 1, 3 and 5m 2way extension leads which mean we can set up in pretty much any way in any space and keep the mains leads as short and tidy as possible. [/quote] +1 We also have a couple of rolls of that rubber cable protector stuff - one carries mains, the other carries the odd signal cables that need to go from front to rear of stage. Stageboxes and multicores complete the setup and leaves us pretty much 'cable free' on stage. A recent addition is a big hose reel with an added plywood disc mounted on the axle (making two distinct areas) for storing XLR cables - long ones on one side, short ones on the other. We have banished the cable fairies.
  15. We're all passive in my functions band. We did consider an active setup, but preferred the redundancy scenario that a passive system gave us. However () the folk band has an active setup. So, the answer is 'yes'.
  16. I'd just worked out a simple way of doing it as well you ungrateful b*****ds...
  17. [quote name='OldG' timestamp='1392713048' post='2371786'] Excellent!, I'm hoping I'll be able to embed in my signature - as well as in posts... sound ok? [/quote] Technically yes, although we have had some comments about the size of some peoples signature files, so we will quite possibly be taking a look at that at some point in the future.
  18. [quote name='OldG' timestamp='1392709570' post='2371749'] Ok.. on further investigation it seems that linked widget is flash based - and therefore could be a problem for slower connections to view. Apparently the HTML5 version is muchly better - but I can't seem to get access/permission to the link on the IP board... [url="http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/5359-souncloud-html5-bbcode/"]http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/5359-souncloud-html5-bbcode/[/url] [/quote] It's swings and roundabouts really. Flash based widgets can take a little more bandwidth but not every browser treats HTML5 the same way. The YouTube widget we use is Flash based and seems to work reasonably well.
  19. [quote name='wishface' timestamp='1392660201' post='2371245'] That's fine if you are a profesional seller where it might be profitable. [/quote] We don't have professional sellers, just bassists who are looking to sell some kit - often so they can reinvest in some more kit. [quote name='wishface' timestamp='1392660201' post='2371245'] It would even be fine to be charged on a succesful sale. [/quote] Basschat doesn't have offices full of employees, it has a number of unpaid Moderators and Administrators working side by side and is simply not geared up to manage such a scheme. [quote name='wishface' timestamp='1392660201' post='2371245'] I can't justify this to just list one item with no guaratnee at all of a sale. [/quote] Well that has to be your choice, although I will say that no site will ever guarantee a sale for you, no matter how attractive a proposition the deal seems.
  20. [quote name='OldG' timestamp='1392621930' post='2370618'] Thank you... linkage to save you looking - [url="http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/3025-soundcloud-audio/"]http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/3025-soundcloud-audio/[/url] [/quote] Crikey - I love it when people ask for stuff [b]and[/b] do the leg work as well.
  21. [quote name='Grangur' timestamp='1392580368' post='2370332'] I don't see a problem with having to pay fees to place a wanted ad. It IS an ad after all. [/quote] Unfortunately, it's not just been the OP who's caused the problem but people responding to the ad. Something like: Wanted - 5 string Bass, willing to pay up to £250. Was producing things like: I'm selling a Mesa Boogie combo - £450 We had one memorable response consisting of some 30 items, none of which even vaguely matched the item being sought. The easiest solutions are often the most unpalatable, so the current measures are the best we could do at the time.
  22. [quote name='the_skezz' timestamp='1392555225' post='2369941'] Absolutely, the Pratchett sense of humour's still very much present and they've got some of the creepiest villains of the Discworld series. Not to mention the Nac Mac Feegle, who're just about my favourite fantasy characters. [/quote] From whence we get the old saying 'Skezz is away with the Nac Mac Feegles again'...
  23. [quote name='OldG' timestamp='1392551606' post='2369889'] Any chance of the same for soundcloud? or just the ability to tag [soundcloud] and [/soundcloud] would be great... pretty please. [/quote] I'm not sure that Soundcloud is a supported embeddable. We have got an impending forum software update and I've been keeping a list of little 'tweaks' that it'd be nice to implement, so consider that added to the list.
  24. [quote name='Oopsdabassist' timestamp='1392490242' post='2369424'] Haha nice friends you have [/quote] To be honest, the more I read, the more I recognised my attitudes and viewpoints. [quote name='Oopsdabassist' timestamp='1392490242' post='2369424'] The Tiffany Aching books, were kind of written for kids, TP did a few like that, they are still cracking good reads for us big kids though ! [/quote] Ah, that's maybe how I've missed them up until now then - I'd assumed they were a spin of from 'Lords and Ladies'. Still, makes no odds to me - self cred beats street cred any day of the week.
