It's not. The -ve supply is connected to Pin 7 which is directly linked to Pin 8. Pin 8 goes to the jack socket where it is switched by inserting a jack plug and then returned to the PCB. It's bog standard active bass switching.

100k pot for fender deluxe jazz mid boost
icastle replied to thefyst's topic in Repairs and Technical
Not log, it's linear 100k pot, solid shaft, centre detent.
Of course it is - it says 'B'. That's what comes from posting at silly o clock in the morning. -
I use a 2x10, 4x10 and 1x15 with Hartke and Peavey amps, although not generally all at once. It gives me flexibility and spares.

You could always try OBBM... -
100k pot for fender deluxe jazz mid boost
icastle replied to thefyst's topic in Repairs and Technical
That's a 100KΩ log pot. Something like this http://doctortweek.co.uk/shop/article_193/Potentiometer-%5BAlpha-Pot%5D-100k-(Log).html would do the job electronically, but you need to make sure that the shaft length is long enough and the right type. -
Thhhhhpppp!!!
Oooer! Something just blew - I hope it wasn't one of your valves...
-
Seriously though, valves or ss (or even hybrid) are a purely personal choice, so each to their own. Valves just don't suit me and I'm equally cognisant that ss amps don't suit others.
It's the power stage that's the problem with the PF...
Well who can blame it, sat there next to hot sweaty valves...
-
Valve amps are just as reliable as SS, as any fule kno. *Cough* PF500! *Cough*
Absolutely... ...little glassy bubbles, bouncy bouncy tinkle...
-
Amplifiers made using little glass bubbles that may or may not work when you switch them on? No thanks. I gave up using valve amps nearly 30 years and it's solid state for me every time. The benefits that people claim valve amps give them are either un-noticeable to me or benefits that I have no need or desire for.

Nope, not got it here at all. My grandad used to say 'never trust an inanimate object that thinks it's smarter than you are'. He was right.
Theres a link at the veeeery bottom of my screen (iphone)
Can't see it on mine, but I've got one of those old fashioned dumbphones. I got myself stranded on the full version once before but I can't for the life of me remember how I managed to get back to the mobile version. I probably deleted the cache.
-
You don't find 'it', 'it' finds you. When you go to BassChat using a mobile device, the site automatically delivers the mobile version unless you have told your mobile to use the 'full site' option, at which point I'll have to admit temporary defeat because I can't see how to revert it back to the mobile version.

The biggest problem with defretting a dream bass is that you might hate the result and not have an easy way back to where you started. As others have said, buying a spare neck or another instrument would be a far safer option.

Wiring a basic preamp, noob needs advice.

The LM358 is a bog standard dual op amp. Well the components are all in the right places and it looks like a tidy job. Is the underside as neat? -
I built it from a kit and yeah there isn't much information on the Maplin site. In the box you get a parts list (with descriptions) and a good diagram along with soldering guides so that part is quite good.
Ah. In which case, two things that I'd double check as a matter of course would be: 1) Did you put the capacitors (C1 and C2) in the right places - you said one of them was different to the picture? 2) Did you fit the electrolytic capacitors (C3 and C4) the right way round? -

The details on the Maplin site are pretty scant. Was this a ready assembled board or did you have to assemble it? -

I suspect you need to be using screened cable. Try disconnecting the pickup from the input and use screened cable for the output (you're looking for no significant hum at this point. If that works then reconnect the pickup - if the hum returns then you'll need to either replace the pickup cable with a screened one (might not be possible) or screen the entire cavity with copper tape. -
I don't get email notifications of PM's anymore either
That's usually an easy one to fix. Go to your notification setting page (little icon next to your user name at the top of the page). Click on Options. Uncheck the boxes that are checked and click on Save. Now recheck the boxes and click Save again. 99/100 times that'll fix the problem.
Still not sorted... really annoying to be restricted PM-wise like this. Surely we could have at least four or five rapid PMs before the time limit thing kicks in?
I can't see or tweak this part of the system - I'll ask again.
How much PM spam have we been experiencing, anyway?
Hardly any since we put the flood filter in place.

lithium batteries - please don't send them without warning

My background has seen me as a fire marshal or first aider (or both occasionally) for most of my working life. Training and best practices may change, but the one constant has always been that my safety and the safety of those in my care (a euphemism for 'everyone') are the number one priority. Nobody knows how they're going to cope under pressure, these are generally ordinary employees who have opted in to offer a helping hand if needed. The last thing any employer wants is for their premises to burn down, and they certainly don't want a burnt down building with a dead employee who thought they were doing the 'right thing' in it as well. You can have as many goes at something in a training exercise as you like, but in real life, you only need one chance to get things badly wrong. Leaving a fire to burn and ensuring everyone is out of the building is the best option for inexperienced people, and most fire marshals are just that. -
Should the bass player be on the left...looking at the band?
icastle replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
This might help. Somewhere between stage left and left centre and downstage for me. -
9/10 times I've seen this happening it's been either a faulty socket or forgetting to unplug the bass when not in use.
