You've just proved that it's impossible to ruin jazz.
I suspect I'm going to be extradited to Canada.

It works quite well though. Rachel McShane - cellist with Bellowhead performing 'Maid On The Shore' with her band... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoOcFSofzI0
Dylan going electric was bad enough, but JAZZ?!! You JUDAS!!
I know! I didn't inhale though...
Not sure if congratulations or commiserations are in order.
That would depend on whether you like jazz or not.
You going to do it again, or has your mind been blown?
I probably would actually, now I've gaffa taped my mental trip switches... The big drawback is losing that surprise\shock factor - once I'm in a 'nothing to loose' position I have no fear, or indeed common sense...

I got talked into a dep spot with a band last week, one of those "it's just a 30 min spot, you'll have no problem with it". No problem, I do this sort of stuff all the while, so I agreed and thought nothing more about it. Everything was fine, until I got on stage and looked at the rest of the band. Drums, piano, saxophone... OH F*CK! This was a jazz band... In the back of my mind Clive Dunn was shouting 'Don't panic!, Don't panic!' Right. Deep breath and I'll deal with the revenge beatings later... What do I know about jazz? Nothing What do I know about then? Folk music What are you going to do then? Erm... what I know... A few little runs, jumping between melody and rhythm, leaving spaces, ghost notes and some slowed down jiggy bits seemed to fit the bill, so off I went... As I stood there, my mind wandered to BassChat and I had to laugh at the hilarity/horror that the thought of me playing the 'j word' would have on those of you who know me better than you probably ought to. The little musical imp on my shoulder persuaded me that playing a tempo compensated 'Remember You're A Womble' riff in amongst 'A Nightingale Sang In Berkley Square' would probably work. ... it does... The set finished. Enthusiastic clapping and a few somewhat bemused faces in the audience I thought, but the gig organiser called me yesterday to tell me that the concensus of everyone he'd spoken to since the gig was that that spot was the best they'd seen for months and asked if I'd consider doing it again in the future. So there ya go. Jazz is just folk music and odd riffs, reused in true Womble stylee... I just need to work out how to weld 'Merry Sherwood Rangers' and 'Stompin' At The Savoy' to each other...
I remember Terry Jacks too. A sad song!
It very nearly justifies my early forays into Wombledom.

my new bass doesn't like most of my leads
You probably just need a new jack socket.
+1 The socket relies on the 'springiness' of the contacts to work. As for why one lead works, it'll be down to the shape of the tip (although 6.35mm is the agreed diameter of a jack plug, the shape of the tip is pretty much a free for all). Get that socket changed and you'll fix the problem - they're only a couple of quid if you're capable of soldering and I'd expect change out of £20 if you take it into a shop and have them do it for you. -
I tend to filter out the lyrics. I'm not known for my love of poetry and skip past all the 'the leaves were falling like a golden carpet' stuff that appears in fiction. Rhythm is always top of the list for me.

Why not just buy an inverter and a car battery?
I'd wager it's more of an issue for 4 string players that have not adjusted to play in the new position of a 5er
+1 Learn how to use a 5 string properly and you won't be pussyfooting about trying to find the E string and tentatively only half playing it 'just in case you miss'.

ROTFLMAO
Is that a widely held view?
Never heard that one before, so no. The only way I can see a low B interfering with an E in any way would be down to poor technique rather than any inherant design flaw.
-
It'll be a 5A. 3A is far too small and as long as the lead doesn't have a locating notch opposite the central connector it won't be a 10A or 13A one. What we term a 'normal' (i.e. without the notch) IEC lead is made from cable only rated to 6A.
I just checked out their stuff. The sound clips sound like 8bit lift music played underwater in next door's pool. Not a great way to sell a musical instrument...
It takes a lot of skill to be able to create that sound...

Yep. Electronically, that Allparts switch is the same as the Aria one. Mechanically, you might need to fiddle about with the replacement to make it fit in the same space, but you're not going to know that until the replacement switch arrives. My gut reaction is that it'll be just fine though. HTH
Not sure they're the same, the Texascustoms ones look quite decent, that one above has a different logo, different headstock too. No Texas state icon after the logo either.
Have to admit I didn't look at it too closely, but yes, the custom ones have a little map after the Texas logo. Maybe they're doing a Fender\Squier thing?
I just sold some bits and now have a little cash in my wallet, now I have seen these amps and there is a burning in my pocket, should I do this? or the other option is to give the cash to Mrs Merlin???
Unless the amount of money can buy you a ticket to South America and a new identity you're probably best off just handing it over...

When I read the thread title my first reaction was 'shout YEEHAH before playing a random pile of notes'... It's actually a US based custom build shop, although I've never seen any of their gear over here. http://www.texascustoms.us/id20.html

Ampeg attenuator knob cracked missing
icastle replied to basshead56's topic in Repairs and Technical
You usually go in through the front - just unbolt the speaker. I'd guess that the attenuator itself is still inside the cab somewhere because it'd be too big to find a way out of the cab. The retaining nut has probably fallen off the outside and allowed the attenuator to fall inwards. -
An easy way to check if the material is likely to be suitable is to hold it tightly over your mouth and try to breath through it - if you can in comfort, it should cause no problems with your sound. This is obviously not highly technical but gives a reasonable idea.
There are a number of variables of course. You need to consider the insulation qualities, the acoustic dampening, the frequency changes and reflection. Best bet is to wear a single wellington boot, pull the material over your head and whistle loudly after removing all your clothes to ensure no reflected frequencies are being absorbed. Honest
Replacing the ribbon would require me to take the amp completely to bits, remove a load of silicone sealant, break and remake a perfectly good joint at the main board end. I'd rather not do this unless I have no alternative.
Of course you could always adopt 'Plan B'. Just ignore the ribbon cable and solder another single cable in place...
