1. You could always use a metal one and wrap some insulating tape around it...
 2. We don't charge an hourly rate. As a guideline we charge £200 for a simple (i.e. pub) gig and £1000 for a corporate\wedding if through an agency and a bit more if we're doing it privately and supplying all the lights and background music. Still plenty of gigs round here.
 3.
Sorry to get a bit technical, but there you go.
We all love it when you start talking techie like that...
 4.
Panties or parties asides , it is quite easy! The Pro independants are accused of stealing the original and the anti independants are accused of stealing the original..........
Well that's tidied that up nicely...
 5.
can you not tell?
You made me go back and check my spelling you git...
 6. What a surprise. The 'authorised' version is used by the 'yes' to independance party whilst the nicked version has the Westminster crowd behind it. Big vote winner that, southerners nicking a Scottish bands music and claiming they haven't. Just when I thought politicians couldn't get any more blatantly thick... EDIT: Or have I got the parties back to front?
 7.
Beat me to it!
...and certainly explains why we both have so many friends...
 8.
A stranger audition would have been if your drummer had gotten out from behind his kit/escape his cage, walked into the middle of the space and said: Go on then, son, get yer cock out.
Is that not normal then?
 9. How odd. ...are you sure he wasn't actually a drummer at the wrong gig?
 10.
Sorry for bringing this up yet again! If you are going to put a 500w amp @4 ohms into two 8ohm cabs. Would two 300w handling cabs be enough? Is the 500w split into 250w into each. T^hink i know, I'm just double checking! thanks and sorry!
Stop apologising The 500W will be split between the two cabs, so a pair of 300W cabs will get 250W each.
 11.
Is what I'm trying to do even feasible? Am I just talking out of my arse again?
Yes, but one of these will unmuffle you...
 12.
Ace, thanks a lot. They've brought out a couple of new 4. X 10 cabs..one is 4 ohm and the other 8. Not sure why they would do that .... I guess the 4 ohm is more powerful in one unit and the other is more flexible so you could add say a 15 inch 8 ohm cab? Would it be worth adding a 15 or just get the 4 ohm 4x10 ?
This is where planning ahead is going to make the difference. If you think you need the whole 600W on day one and reckon that you can get the sort of sound 'spread' that you like from a single 4x10 then you need to go for that 4 ohm one. Beware though - that'll be 'it' as far as future expansion is concerned. If it's unlikely you'd need the full 600W on day one then I'd go for the 4x10 8 ohm and leave myself a litle expansion space for another cab later, if I decided I needed it. manhandle two cabs about, then that would make sense. If you think that you might only need the full 600W for an occasional gig then
 13. Right, it's like this... You can add cabs until you hit the minimum impedance figure. Two 8 ohm cabs equal a 4 ohm load. So, using the MAG as an example, you can run two 8 ohm cabs on the amp and you will get the maximum volume that the amp can produce. If you go below 4 ohms (so adding a third cab or using an 8 ohm and a 4 ohm cab at the same time) then you're probably headed for an expensive repair bill. How's that?
 14.
Well, my Violin bow didn't work. I did get some faint sounds from it but because of the shape of the Bass body I couldn't use it anywhere near the pick-ups. That was on roundwounds, I didn't bother trying flats.
It isn't really a very practical exercise. First off, you need to make sure the bow is well rosined - that'll allow the bow to 'stick' to the strings, but also make the strings sticky to touch afterwards. Second catch is that the pickups aren't going to expect the string to be vibrating in the way that they will when bowed, so IIRC they need to be switched out of phase.
 15.
That's how it should be done. Thankyou Machinehead Music, Hitchin.
Machinehead have had a number of different owners since I first visited back in the 80's (Keith & Pam used to own it then) but the one thing that has remained constant throughout is the shops commitment to good service.
 16.
So is Basschat. There are hundreds of 'em.
Get out of my head you b*st*rd!
 17.
With the exception of the Bass Merchants, most guitar shops Ive been in are run by salesman who know nothing about the stuff they are selling. I do miss the Bass Merchants in Colchester... sniff sniff Korg, a massive brand in the music biz. never heard of Chord. Just shows that these salesman dont even do their homework.
You're going to the wrong shops then - we have a couple of people on here that work in music shops and they certainly 'know their stuff'.
 18. Well if it's something that someone has bought, used a couple of times and not liked it then 20% off seems pretty reasonable to me. If it's something that's been heavily used then that's perhaps not such a good deal. Thing is that the seller sets the price - if it sells, then all well and good. If it doesn't sell then it's either the wrong item to be selling at the time or the price is too high.
 19. Now that is one nice looking bass. Any idea how it compares to the SR505?
 20. I don't know for certain, but I'd be tempted to undo the two screws holding the switch in place. As there is no other visible mounting method I'm guessing that the switch and XLR assembly are on a 'plate' type arrangement secured by those screws.
 21. Nope. If the plug was originally wired +1 and -1 then that's what it needs to be. The +2 and -2 posts are for bi-amped operation and are rarely used. Your best bet would be to either try and find time to grab a replacement lead (or plug) or temporarily use a jack <-> jack lead (if your amp\cab has that option).
 22.
i was gonna join paranoiachat.com but nobody posted
They probably had you blocked - we were talking about you all the while...
 23. Probably won't work on the aluminium ones, but the paper domes can usually be pulled out using a vacuum cleaner hose.
 24. Don't like them, never have and never will. Do I care if anyone else does? Nope - if you like 'em then that's fine by me.
 25. It really depends on the type of venues you play. If you're doing wedding\function type stuff then the venue will nearly always insist you have PLI to indemnify them against any claims made by injured parties. If you're mostly playing down the 'Dog and Souffle' then it's perhaps not so important - unless something goes wrong. We get ours through Zurich for about £200 a year - peanuts in the big scheme of things.
