My gigs are for the cats and chickens, but I am already having volume wars with OH who is on lead guitar! LOL! Then there is the timing I am the rhythm section, I keep time (well) he needs to stick with me, not expect me to bend to his vague time signature that bears a passing resemblance to 4/4
Ah. The old 3.85/4 time signature...
Also huge thanks for the invite to your plug and play nights, but I really dont think we're ready to get out of the Black Country yet!
I didn't mean next week ya daft git. There will be spaces if or when you and your pale, ricket ridden mates from the Black Country step blinkingly out of the workhouse into the sunshine... They're not actually all my plug n play nights - I've come to an 'arrangement' with them insofar as I tell them what I want and they give me it. I'm unsure whether it's my charm, wit and sophistication that gets me this deal or if they're just worried I might play a bass solo at them...

Oh Wow! I am so pleased for you Shell You're about to embark on an absolutely fantastic musical adventure - playing with other musicians massively accelerates musical ability. I still have fond memories of the first band I ever played in some 30 years ago and, although they were rubbish, it helped shaped me into the musician I am today (shut yer gobs you lot in the cheap seats... ). Even if it comes to nothing, it is a damn sight easier moving from band to band than it is moving from 'nothing' to a band - so a 'win' whichever way you look at it. I've got access to three 'plug n play' nights over here that I can guarantee a 'slot' in if you guys ever want to perform in front of a live audience before hitting Wembley Stadium.

I don't use them much at the moment, but that's more of a genre issue than anything else. Interspersing the run with alternate doubled up (or more) octaves is rather nice as well if your fingers are nimble enough.
I suspect that it wasn't a woman that crafted that ad somehow seashell. Let's face it though, having chosen the bass as an instrument I doubt us females on here are girly girls
Oh I dunno.
This has sent me into a complete feminist frenzy, and I'm having to breathe into a paper bag right now!! Have we achieved nothing, sisters??
Of course you have. ...it's not easy to find paper bags these days....... -
If it's the amp he posted about recently then it's a Marshall valve amp. It which case going above the stated impedance (or using it without an speaker connected) will fry it.
Aargh. I've not found that post yet, I've got a bit of a backlog...

For the sake of clarity and defrazzling your brain... Two 16Ω speaker cabinets will give you an 8Ω load. An 8Ω and a 16Ω speaker cabinet will give you a 5Ω load. Two 8Ω speaker cabinets will give you a 4Ω load. A 4Ω and a 16Ω speaker cabinet will give you a 3.2Ω load. An 8Ω and a 4Ω speaker cabinet will give you a 2.6Ω load. If your amplifier states that it expects an 8Ω load then going below 8Ω is almost definately going to damage the amp. If you're unsure what your amp can handle then tell us what it is and we'll see if we can give you a definitive answer.

The easiest way to get your left hand in the correct position is to start without a guitar. Relax your hand and arm while imagining a guitar neck cupped there. Move your arm up and down and you'll feel your wrist 'pulling' if you go too low. Try 'hooking' your thumb and you'll find your fingers become more tense as they are pulled into a 'claw'. What you're after is a height and position where your arm, wrist and fingers are as pressure free as possible.
-
Providing you attach two speaker cabs to it when running in 'stereo' mode, it's the same.
-
I'm right handed so always stage left. Find it easier to keep eye contact with the drummer and no chance of neck collisions with our left handed guitarist...
Oh yeh ive been ss for to long now i suppose could always get an 8 ohm dummy load? And plug that in aswell as the cabinet?
Not really a practical option. You're not going to find an 8Ω resistor with a high enough wattage - and even if you could, 400W is, as near as damnit, half a bar of an electric fire...

Using Fingers on your Plucking Hand to Mute Bass Stings
that's not my strong point either.....
That's just something that comes with time. -
I think a lot of the simplicity in the early days of the Buckingham\Nicks lineup was partly due to a 'bottle for breakfast' habit. Despite that, it always works.

Using Fingers on your Plucking Hand to Mute Bass Stings
icastle replied to dakanoosh's topic in General Discussion
I tend to end up using whatever is most convenient at the time - 3rd and\or 4th fingers, thumb, heel of my hand or passing cat. I'd go as far as saying that with the possible exception of actually 'knowing where the notes are', muting is probably the most important technique going and one that is only given cursory acknowledgement as it's not at all exciting... -
Reading this thread with interest. Muting is not my strong point ....
Shhhhh... -
From the images I've seen, it uses an external 9V power supply. Just throw the US one in the bin and replace it with a UK one - as long as the pedal gets 9V it won't care where it comes from. EDIT: If it's a really old mains powered one then it's gonna need surgery and probably isn't worth mucking about with.

Not easily. Your existing cab is wired in series and parallel (so 2x 8Ω drivers in series to give you 16Ω and that pair wired in parallel to the other pair to bring you back to 8Ω). Your wiring would have to break the series wiring and wire all four 8Ω speakers in parallel.
-
Nope. There's no wiring permutation that'll give you 4Ω from four 8Ω speakers.
