It's bad enough working your set times around football in pubs, but this ? - dreadful way to treat a band. Am guessing the landlady didn't offer any of the fee in compensation, no doubt blaming the brewery etc.

Agree with you about the live show's requirements, but not at the expense of the song or the groove. Bob Babbit's original lines on 'Midnight train to Georgia' are so sublime. Certainly not pedestrian but just so right for the vocal and overall arrangement.

+1 ^^^^ Love Gladys Knight, but hate the overblown arrangements killing some amazing tunes. That thing where every subtle little accent is hammered into the ground makes for very tedious listening IMO. The original versions are so much better, where the playing and arrangements go to serve and enhance the songs. YMMV.

Black Sabbath, Hammersmith Odeon in the late 70's. Dreadful. Although the gig that left my hearing impaired for over a week was at Dingwalls in London, again late 1970's. Think the band was The Count Bishops or maybe Blast Furnace and the Heatwaves, Charles Shaar Murray's r'n'b outfit. ( Remember Alex Harvey staggering on to sing a bit too ...) The PA consisted of multiple Bose 802's stacked high and wide together to create a wall of sound that was unbearable. Even was painful right at the back of the room too, so didn't last all the gig.

Layla - Derek and the Dominos. Often derided, but I love every track. As I do Exile on Main St, although agree it may have also made a good single album.

Was in a pro function band for 15 years. Had an absolute ball, playing at events and meeting people I'd never otherwise have happened upon. Worked abroad too, along with prestige venues (Albert Hall etc) which I would otherwise not have had a chance of doing. Got wined and dined very well into the bargain. You need a long fuse, patience, the ability to be messed around a fair bit and generally a professional attitude. Wide musical knowledge / appreciation essential, as is the ability to compromise on gear / setting up space and generally remaining 'flexible'. If you can do this, you should enjoy!

Just listening to a Springsteen live gig from January this year in Chicago. He cocks up an intro and has to restart the song 3 times! Just laughs it off too, great stuff.

Snarks for me too. No tracking problems and really reliable. Work well on all my basses, including a uke! Whilst not overly keen on adding anything to the headstock of my basses, I think clip on tuners are great. Unlike pedal tuners, no extra cables needed and you can tune anytime without fuss ( so long as you remember to turn the volume down on your bass - when I first got mine I didn't....)

Been to their showroom, very impressive place and friendly staff. Bought a PA amp,and a couple of guitar cases, all at excellent prices. Hope they manage to continue doing a good job, not easy in these times but they seem to have both the retail and online presence sorted well.

I'm often surprised when people consider my GK 1001RB amps as heavyweights. At around 21.5 lbs, to me they are best of both - reasonable portability with old school tone. (There again I did used to schlep around an Ampeg all valve SVT rig complete with 8x10....)

This ^^^^ I regularly play in large theatres, and have yet to struggle with my rig. (Gallien Krueger 1001 RB into a GK 4x10 Neo cab ) I use a wedge monitor for all I need other than my bass sound, and always manage to find a good balance. Most of the band use in-ears but I just can't be arsed with them TBH. Never yet struggled with hearing myself, and love the 'live' sound this set up allows. Of course this maybe does n't work for everyone, but for me it's the best solution. My take is that having a decent backline is always the best approach, meaning I have control over what I hear at all times. Nothing worse that not having enough level or headroom. Our engineer is great, and uses a Sansamp Bass Driver to DI into the PA rather than the amp's one, just in case. ( Should my amp fail, I could no doubt get through the show with just a monitor feed if pushed.)

Sheryl Crow played bass for a while onstage I believe. As did Bryan Adams at one point with a trimmed down band.

As a non real ale drinker, I like Grolsch. It has a flavour that makes it stand out from other lagers, but guessing it's a marmite kinda thing though. The problem is sourcing the flip top bottles as most of the stuff these days is in regular bottles / cans. As mentioned, ebay handy for just the washers.
