3. These are fantastic amps - I'm really tempted to get another!
 4.
Pesky gone and missed it !
Some of it repeated Sunday evening I believe (BBC4).
 5.
danbowskill' This is still here at that price! Wow! I guess folks really are skint? Bargain bump MB1. Or dont live anywhere near Essex.
I'm both - Bump!
 6. After a few years of using cars in an 8 piece band, we bit the bullet and started using vans - hiring at first (best to build up a relationship with local independent company for ongoing good rates IMO) and then leasing/buying. Fewer vehicles per gig, greener etc and saves ruining your car with flight cases and drunk drummers etc. Also gave me my hallway back - not having PA under the stairs -once we'd acquired our own Transit. Probably stating the obvious, but cramming lots of gear/musos into your small hatchback is really not very safe (as in post#24), may affect your insurance liability in the case of an accident , and is going to attract the local constabulary.................
 7. Love The Raspberries tune. (Don't you just hate it though when people write 'it should of been' though..? )

 9.
Provided you look after them properly there's no reason an old bass would be more likely to fail than a new one. The main reason not to gig a vintage bass is the worry that it will get stolen or damaged.
Thats why I retired my 63 precision. Playing at events where idiots/drunks could possibly get to my bass, I thought it sadly was n't worth the risk. That's how I got into playing a Musicman, knowing that it was not quite so precious and could be replaced more easily should it get damaged or stolen. I still use the Precision on gigs where I know it will be okay though, and having used it for over 25 years it has never let me down once. Wherever possible, I think it's great to use vintage stuff, that's what it's for!
 10.
Can't embed/won't embed, but 'Behind a Painted Smile' contains one of my favourite snare drum sounds and a stroke of genius to stick that bit on the end.
+1 Loved the Isley's Motown output - especially 'Take some time out for love' which I think was the follow up to 'This old heart of mine'. Think they often get a bit overlooked when people refer to Motown's legacy.
 11.
Here's another live version of Suspicious Minds - this is the one that's on "Elvis Live". I love how high the bass is in the mix and how The Scheff goes from laying back a bit to just ripping away and then back again and then... The way it sort of changes gear at 2:40 gives me goose bumps. The high register phrases at 3.15 - 3.45 are just glorious
Great stuff - love the trumpets as well !
 12. Probably the Peavey for me - had both and preferred the sound, although as stated a PITA to move around. Also come in 4 and 8 ohm versions, so check which it is if you go for it. If you don't like it, you'll probably be able to move it on for £100 and go for the Hartke!

 15.
Absolute bargain of the century. Mine is amazing, and would love another but that'd be crazy. Someone will get a bargain!
+1 - superb tone machine for a great price.
 16. Seen this guy advertised recently in York doing set ups, repairs and amp mods etc - contact "][email protected] Think he has a Facebook page too. (No knowledge / recommendations personally, just thought it may be worth a look?)
 17.
Ernie Ball Slinkies - the lightest gauge. D'Addarios are ok too if that's all there is. DRs are nice but a bit pricey (I've never found that expensive strings last longer than cheaper ones). The only strings (that I have tried) that I can't stand are Rotosound. They appear to use the same wire you put in band-saws
I thought same regarding Rotosound, then I tried their 'Rotos' - cheaper and better! (Also identical to Legacy nickels at £7.95 a set.) Give them a try, you may be pleasantly surprised.
 18. If you're quick (by midnight 29th Feb) you can get 10% discount at Strings Direct - enter discount code STRINGS at the checkout. I got this in an email from them, guess it works for any customers. Cheers,Pete.
 19. D'Addario XLs on my Stingrays and Danelectro. Legacy nickels (Rotos repackaged) on others - £7.95 a set from Strings Direct, great strings! Also 10 % discount at Strings Direct until 29th Feb - just enter discount code STRINGS at checkout.

Edit - link does n't work, but go to YEP site and search for 'Music Ground' - two reports there, makes for interesting reading.

 22.
That performance blew me away, from a technical level for the bass and arrangement level on everything else. It was just beautifully done!
Me too. Superb playing, and in the context of the song too. And groovy as f*ck! Whole band were playing IMO - no way to end with a big rall like that and get it right!
 23. Don't know about anything wrong with modern bassists, there seem to be plenty of ace players around - for example, what about the bass player with Bruno Mars (Jamareo Artis) ? Saw him on the Brits last night - best playing I've seen for ages, with a great band too. (And he danced whilst doing it !) Also caught Vintage Trouble live a few weeks ago, with superb playing from Rick Barrio Dill.
 24. Remember doing a function at a hotel once (near Manchester I think) where we drove the van into the venue directly behind the stage, then just pulled a curtain across the back to cover it up! Very quick pack up ensued, although the gig had a kind of diesel smell all evening......... Personal best was around 5 mins from cafe bar gig near my house after using house PA. Washburn acoustic bass into gig bag and off.
