1. I,m afraid that Guy Berrymans bass playing does nothing for me
2. I think Carole Kaye played on the record, I think the playing on the live version is a bit OTT and doesnt suit the song
3. On my two basses I have roundwounds on the P Bass and flats on the OLP. Doing the circuit that I do its nice to try and simulate the original songs bassline with near enough the right sound. Frinstance, you cant do No Woman No Cry on rounds, or Going Underground on flats.
4. I think that is a 1977 neck you got there, IRC they changed the lettering in early 77 from the heavier font used previously.
5. For me it would be John Mc Vie from Fleetwood Mac. A guy who just happened to be in the right place at the right time! While not being able to sing backing vocals or any notable solo ventures, he is now living a life of luxury in Hawaii! Although not a brilliantly techical bassist, his lines are always able to complement the song "Go Your Own Way and Rhiannon" spring to mind. Oh! and he's from just down the road from me in Ealing, West London!
6. Yea, i sing lead on about 12 numbers and backing vox on everything else. Funny thing is, i can only seem to sing uptempo numbers ballads send me completely off key!!
7. An Agathis body? sounds like an elderly crime author! I thought basswood was the choice for the lower end market these days??
8. His name is "Rusty" something or other, he,s been playing with Macca for a few years now! I saw them at Earls Court back in 2005 with the same lineup. The drummer is the son of Abe Loriel the great bass player, although he looks like a nightclub bouncer who would knock seven bells out of you, he is in fact a nice guy!!
9. According to the book Recording The Beatles Chris Thomas miked up a piano and sent it through a Vox guitar amp and twiddled the knobs to get that sound, it was done live not in the mix apparently
10.
Probably because if you turned up unannounced all you'd find would be an empty room...
I took a couple of guitars there recently for a setup. They are based in a back street in Bermondsey. You have to press a buzzer for someone to let you in and you go up a flight of stairs into an open plan office with a few guitars hanging on the wall, not really like a shop at all!! They dont really encourage you to try the guitars though! I dont think its a very good way to sell things like that!" They guy I spoke to (nice bloke he was) told me that when they used to have the other shop, he used to get people in trying the guitars out and then saying "yes i,ll buy this!" and going away and buying it cheaper on line, so I can see his point. Still, they done a cracking job on my 34 year P Bass though!
11. On a way to a gig last night, loaded up the car and drove to our singer/rythym guitarists house where we swapped vehicles and he helped load his car with the gear from mine, and drove all the way from west London to south London to the gig. On arrival start unloading the gear and I said to him "Wheres the bass?" "What he said, I thought you had it!" A quick phonecall to his wife revealed my bass had slipped between the back seat and the front seat of my car, still sitting outside his house!! You all know that feeling in your stomach?? Luckily, we have a keyboard/Lead guitarist who had to lend me his Gibson SG to play the bass on the lower strings while the rest of the band played. It didnt sound too bad, with the EQ cranked fully up and a lot of compression through the bass amp (Which I did remember!) we got away with it!! Phew!
12. How about Hanging Around by The Stranglers??
13. Anyone seen or heard from Cyberbass recently? I havent heard from him regarding these since last Sunday morning I may have to bump this again- in fact sod it! Bump!
14. I,ve been using it for a while now and it seems quiet accurate, they used to give you the first 10 seconds or so free, and you,d have to subscribe to hear the rest of the song and print out the tab and slow down - speed up etc.
15.
Cor, what a fantastic track. First time I've heard the original. My nomination for most spectacularly out of tune bass is Van Morrison and Them doing Dylan's It's All Over Now Baby Blue (much sampled, eg. by Beck)…. Mine is Rocky Raccoon from the Beatles White album, or its so over flanged it sounds as if it well out of tune!
16. Thats completely identical to mine which I had up for sale on here recently! (Although mine is not 100% original or such great condition) Judging by serial numbers, yours was made first! Edit- No mine was!
17. How about Keep On Running - Spencer Davis Group? or Ride on Time by Black Box?
18. Well, the young lad at cash converters didnt know what they were, so it must be true!!
19. Anybody want these examples of 90's technology? 8 blank minidiscs? you can join the ranks of those who bought a betamax video, laserdisc and the famous but ill fated Sinclair C5! Yours for ony £8! Please dont all rush!! one at a time please!
20. STOP WASTING EVERYBODYS TIM!!
21. Theres been quiet a few successful sales wihin the past few weeks, see the feedback threads!
22. I think the most famous engineering error was on The Beatles Hey Jude, where the open mikes picked up a shout of "f***ing hell!! on the vocal track which still makes me laugh when i hear it!
23. as I recall, the 80,s was dominated by the Squire series, I bought a '57 squier Precision japanese JV series bass in fiesta red back in December 1984, which was a bloody good bass, even now these are looked upon with respect, some even thought them better that an American Fender. I also bought a "Silver Series" Precision in the late ,80,s - early '90,s which to be honest I didnt rate that highly!
