1. Sometimes the most boring bass lines are most suited to the song. Status Quo are a case in point. how many Quo songs have the standard dum-de-dum-dum-de-dum line where nothing elese will do??
2.
I see you're from Greenford... my birthplace!
And the Birthplace of The Who 1964 In February, The Detours change their name to The Who at the suggestion of Pete’s art school friend Richard Barnes. The Who acquire the managerial services of Helmut Gorden, a doorknob manufacturer from Shepherd’s Bush. In April, after an impromptu audition at the Oldfield Hotel in Greenford, west London, Keith Moon, who had been drumming for the past year in local Wembley group, Clyde Burns and The Beachcombers, joins The Who. The group had been using a session drummer Dave Golding following the departure of Doug Sandom.
3.
The area of West London I grew up in had three great music shops. Tempo (Flying Pig) and Peter Cook's in Hanwell, and the Ealing Music Centre (Dave Simms) in Ealing Broadway. I was definitely spoilt. Buying or browsing, haven't got a bad word to say about any of them. Unfortunately only Peter Cook's remains in business. High rates and rents did for the other two.
I bought my first proper bass after my Westone Thunder one from Dave Simms in December 1984, a fiesta red 1957 Squire Precision. Wish I still had it. A few months later, they closed down. I bought a Trace Elliot combo from Flying Pig and a week later, they closed down!! I bought a 1996 anniversry P Bass from Peter Cook a few years back, and luckily, they are still there!!
4. Very good timing considering there is no bass drum, in fact its spot on!
5. I use these multicoloured sharkfins, they,re actually ment for acoustic guitars but are nice and big n chunky to grip.
6.
I've just come back from Peter Cook's having just purchased for myself a Fender gig bag for my Jazz and without doubt certainly the nicest of people to deal with. I'm lucky theyre quite local to me. They have a really good tech comes to the shop on Saturdays as well.
Yes thats Stuart, he does all my basses and the guitarists in my bands Fender Stat too
7. Oh yes, I remember Rock School Deidre Cartwright on guitar, Henry Thomas on bass.... Rock School
8.
1 sold to Poorcow and the other to Essexbasscat Both PM'd at 08:31 Unfortunately local Basschatter Hobbayne, just missed out at 08:33..
9. Was never a Smiths fan the first time around Their sort of music went a bit above my head. However, I have a Best Of Jools Holland DVD where Morrisey and a great backing band are doing a song called "You have Killed me" Which I think is a great song! 10. I have the Behringer 1800A, and while its a bit on the weighty side, I have used it nearly every week for over a year. The Ultrabass thingumy is a bit of a gimmick really! Some strange chorusy/octaver effect, but the compessor is punchy enough!
11. I,m a bit of a beatles fan, so my missus got me a nice leather guitar strap featuring the album revolver and some guitar picks
12. I remember when I first started playing in the early 80's, I used Rotosound R66 roundwounds. They had red silk wraps, in fact most bass strings did in those days! Theres a lot more choice of colours now. Having said that, I prefer to have no windings at all like the Elites I recently put on the old Fender, they look much better dont you think?

I thought the Black Sea album was brilliant! Some great tracks "Generals and Major" and "Respectable Street" to name a couple. I had this album on vinyl and recently found it on itunes for a fiver!. I think Andy Partridge had a nervous breakdown and doesnt play anymore!
14. I tend to listen to the whole band, not just the bass. I,m a reasonable enough guitar player too, so I can listen the way the guitar is linking to the drums via the bass. Having said that, I was watching a band do a number that we also do, in the same key as well. I saw he was doing a nice lttle run to connect the G and D chords which I wish I had thought of! I have now pinched it and now do the same thing as him
15. Do you have the original box and user manual and AC adapter for it??
16. My OLP MM2 is so light when compared to my 1977 Fender Precision, but recently a friend let me use his 1975 Jazz, and it was even heavier than the Precision (which comes in at 9 pounds) so there are heavy and heavy 70,s Fenders out there!
17. Didnt he produce Creams first two albums Felix Papalardi? I,m sorry, I dont get out much
18. I think Jools Hollands bass player uses one of those!
19. I remember reading somewhere when Sade first appeared that she was related to Michael Caine somewhere along. I think it was 1983 but I could be wrong. There was a big surge in bassists playing Stingrays back then, Pino's fretless on Whereever I Lay My hat, this fella on Smooth Operator and Mikey Craig from culture club all played one. Me? I had a Westone Thunder 1
