Is the V4B out yet then?
End of August, apparently. If it can get a similar sound to the SVT-CL I might have to get one.

You're not being too picky. There's no point being in a band you don't like just for the sake of being in a band. Afterall, the main reason we all do this is because we enjoy it.

Hugh McDonald is the same in Bon Jovi. He's been there since '94 and never been in promo photos, press etc.
IMO the main constructional issue for rehearsal rooms is not noise leaking to the outside, but sound leakage from one room to the others. Your partition walls between the rooms need to be of the same standard as the outside walls, which means brick or some other heavy duty construction and preferably with a sizeable air-gap between each room.
This. I've rehearsed at a place that was pretty much as you described your idea - an open space with three rooms built inside using timber frames and doubled-skinned plasterboard walls with rockwool in between. There were two rooms that shared a wall and another which had its nearest point around 10 feet from the other two. On the inside they sounded OK (though they weren't very well treated) but even from the separate room you could still hear the bands in the other two rooms quite clearly when you stopped playing.
I just got a quote from Allianz. £1000 of cover inc, £800 for the bass and £200 for the amp, including cover when in and unattended vehicle. This came to under £2.70/month - £29/year. http://www.allianzmu.../power-play.asp You can also get liability insurance too for, what seems to me to be good rates. I'd be interested to hear what others think of them?
Thanks for the link. I just had a look at it and it seems pretty decent. I might well go for it.
B2RE love them.
Or, if you like the classic Ampeg look, the SVT 450H is the same amp in an SVT style box. You can probably pick up either for about a hundred quid less than you can sell the Terror for. I had the 450 for years before I got an SVT CL. Great amp.

worst amp you have owned or had the luck to use
joeystrange replied to stu_g's topic in Amps and Cabs
I don't rember the model but it was a Trace Elliot 2x10 combo. The one that just has a graphic, volume and gain. Those things sound terrible. In fact, most of the Trace stuff I've used has been horrible. -
From what I've been told, the quality control in the Mexican factory isn't great so sometimes you get a great guitar and sometimes you get something a bit ropey. I have a MIM Precision that had very little output with I first had it. I found out there was a dodgy solder joint (for some reason it had gone green!) and I can only assume that that was the cause. Since I'd planned on replacing the electronics anyway it didn't bother me. Other people buy MIM guitars that are really well built and never have a problem with them. They're pretty hit-and-miss so the best thing to do is to try one out before you buy it wherever possible. That's the only way of knowing what you're getting.

What are you listening to right now?

Today, and since Saturday, I've been listening to this on-and-off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR3pKGRNexY -
Anyone tried a Ashdown CL-414H? Who Can help me find a 4x10?
joeystrange replied to DanEly's topic in Amps and Cabs
I didn't think the CL series comes in a 212 format, but I may be wrong.
I have this in my house (sorry about the crap pic)... Although it's apparently called the VS212 though it looks identical to the CL range. Whatever it's called, there appeaars to be next to no info on it and nothing on Ashdown's site. I know they unveiled the range at NAMM 2012 and we bought this not long after but all I can think is that maybe it wasn't very popular and they discontinued it really quickly? Whatever the case, it's a great cab if you can find one! -
Apples & Oranges. What makes you say a 2x12 cab is better? I, personally have always liked 4x10s, yet to try a nice 2x12
They make a 2x12 in the same range as that red Ashdown you posted and it sounds great! Although for some reason it isn't on Ashdown's website and there's not a lot of info on them. If you can find one, though, it's worth checking out. -
Does anyone have any experience with the EBS CL 450? I have an SVT-CL, which I love the sound of, but it weighs a ton so I've been half considering replacing it. I know EBS are renowned for great build-quality and tone but I've never tried one myself. The guy from Danko Jones uses them and I love his sound, which is why I've been looking at them. I'm just interested in how they sound compared to the SVT, really. It's the valve emulation and drive that I'm most interested in. How much like real valve overdrive does it actually sound? Cheers.

Downgrading from an SVTCL/SVT410HLF. Opinions?
joeystrange replied to alexisonfire's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think the Orange Terror Bass is a great little amp. It's small, light and has a lot of dirt from the valve pre-amp. -
I've just looked at these and they seem very good, plus some good positive comments on this thread, but very pricey to pay on the off chance they might work ! Do you need to go to a specialist to get these ?
I got a set of Pro 17s a few months ago (after thinking about it for a long time) and they're brilliant! Everything sounds great, just quieter. You do need to go to a specialist but Boots Hearingcare is a dealer and there's one in most big towns. Plus they signed me up for their hearing club (for free) to get a discount so they ended up costing £112ish instead of £140. Although if it's just hearing the bass that you're worried about, cheap generic foam plugs cut all the top end and leave the lows, although it'll be very muddy. It's strange that you tried them and still couldn't hear the bass.
Gordon Smith
I don't think Gordon-Smith make basses. I'd definitely try one if they did though.
I've had contact dermititis one my hands for the best part off five months. Now it's on my fingers and i'm trying to learn the Bass parts to RENT as i'm going on tour with it in two weeks. Fingers are splitting after a couple of hours playing, mega sore as all the skin peeling off too. Going to doctors on tues to ask for some hardcore steroids. Shitting myself a bit that they won't heal in time.
What strings are you using? If they're nickel it could be exacerbating the problem.

Engineer's choice. If they want pre, then pre. If they want post, then it's post. Personally I prefer post as it's easier for the engineer to get a sound like the amp but at the end of the day he's going to make it sound however he decides it should sound anyway.

I once put a Badass II on a Jazz but I wasn't chasing magic sustain or desiring adjustability or anything like that. The simple fact of the matter was that my E string saddle kept losing height while I played it, requiring constant adjustment
I had a friend with a Jazz bass with that problem. He just needed a new saddle.
I had that same problem with a Precision. Swapped out the saddle and now it's fine. I was thinking about getting a Badass II for that bass and wondering how much difference they made but, reading this, I don't think I'll bother.

People put ads like that on Craigslist for a laugh all the time. I think this might have been re-done too, I'm sure I read this around a year ago. It seemed very familiar when it started popping up on Facebook a few days ago anyway.

To be Wireless or not to be Wireless...
joeystrange replied to L_Bass_Dog85's topic in Accessories and Misc
I had a Samson Airline Bass for a few years until someone stood on the transmitter and broke it. I never had any problems with it although, to my ears, it seemed to add a bit of top end to the sound. Now I'm using a Line 6 G30 and it sounds great! The jack cable to connect the transmitter to the bass didn't look brilliant quality so I made a replacement for it. Other than that I don't have any problems at all. -
Cheers guys!
Great! ... and do I spot a Terrortone in there? :-)
Yep, your guitarist is lurking somewhere in the woods!

Just bought a Stagg electro-acoustic from Tom. Everything was smooth and simple with plenty of communication. A pleasure to do business with.
