1.
Hi mate, I hope you're well. Glad to hear you're playing more DB What's your budget for a DB? There are quite a few choices depending on what you have to spend.
Hey dude been ages. I'm playing loads of upright at the moment. Just finished recording the second album with the blues/country act. It was that which spurred this thought TBH as all the stuff we've used is the pup rather than the mic'd sound. TBH I haven't thought about budget, I guess £1,000 - £1,500? But will I see a significant improvement for that much money? Dunno really I genuinely have no idea :/
2. Hi All, Looking for some quite nooby advice. I have a Double bass, it's quite nice, cost £500 from what I remember, I have a nice pickup and some plastic strings on it (which I really like). The acoustic sons of the bass is a bit meh, it's just a ply wood body, and the fingerboard dents pretty easily - so I'm certain isn't any kind of fancy wood. It's in pretty shonky condition the fingerboard is dented, the bridge isn't straight I think the endpin is a bit bent, and it rattles. This year I've done more gigs on DB than on electric (which I've always considered my primary instrument). Anyway I'm wanting to upgrade and get something a bit better/half decent but have no idea where to start :/ Any advice? I mostly play blues and country, no classical and the odd bit of jazz. Ta muchly.
3. I could be well tempted by this, what are the rehearsal/gig commitments like?
4. It's the best bit, the live shows are why I do it. I decided to take a bit of time off from gigging this year as I was really burnt out - and needed a bit of time, however have still done over 30!
5.
Who's gonna break ranks with the Penthouse version?
I did that years and years ago on a stingray copy. Sadly can't find any pics but I do remember a pair of breasts wearing out due to excessive slapping!
6. Love this bass Mike. Real winner.
7. I do my own PAT testing. I bought a kit that came with an instructional DVD, then you do an online test and get a certificate for competency. I'm comfortable that when I do it I do it properly and that the equipment is safe. I've never had any questions or issues with it from venues etc. All in it cost about £350 however by the time you've paid someone to come out and d a whole bands backline more than once you've made your money back.
8. I'm in Reading and stay in Bracknell quite often. If you catch me in a good mood and there's free tea I'd be happy to drop by and give you a few pointers . Drop me a message and we can sort something. Rob
9. I run 22 piece ukulele band and TBH I play it a lot more than my bass these days. So much fun. Feels weird going to a gig with just the uke though, as opposed to bass, pedal board, amp, cab, leads box... I like it And of course the band plug, www.facebook.com/thesmallstrings

11. We use a mac mini at the studio, it's a great bit of kit.
12. It's ok thanks, I think I prefer the browner ones. Thanks for taking the time too post the pic though.
13. We keep a lot of our charts in dropbox as PDFs then all those in the band with iPads just have the dropbox app and use that. Tried it on an iPhone - not so good.
14. I might have charts for I'm coming out, let me have a root around.
15. I'm always up for deps etc. I'm based in Reading, give me a shout if you need a player
16. I really like the Sennheiser in ear headphones but they do break all the time. I just bought some of these off of Groupon. They're pretty nice, ot my ear don't sound quite as good but there's not a lot in it and much more robust.
17.
well, in my outrageously arrogant way I suppose I'm actually asking the question cos' I do have qualms about it.
I guess so, maybe I jumped in with an opinion a little to quickly there.
18.
...I have to admit if I have to learn a cover song, for my band, that there is no way in the world I would want to buy it for my own listening pleasure I generally download it for nothing, learn it then forget about it, and it just sits on my laptop forever and never gets played again.
I find this astonishing. Effectively you think It's ok for you to learn someone else's song to play in your band. Presumably to play at gigs that you want to get paid for - but don't want to pay 99p to the artist who composed the material your performing? I find this arrogant and outrageous.
19. I found having a power supply for each pedal gave me a lot of unwanted noise in my signal chain.
